Me and my older brother used to love playing this together back in the day. Just came across this video and teared up a little watching this because my brother is no longer with us. But I do cherish times we had together like playing this game together! RIP Bro!
This was the funniest video game I can ever remember playing for the NES. I was laughing so hard at that part near the end where the Double Dragon music starts playing.
It was a lot easier once you put in the money code, went to the hidden store under the overpass and purchased the super fast punches and kicks.... Good ole Nintendo Power...
me the same.37 ...you are right time flies..my son is 21 and i am waitin (my wife) for another son/dauther .She is sleeping now (1:30 am in italy now) but i am playing it like once on my snes classic mini :D
This hands down was one of my all time favorite nes games ever! Graphics are fun & violent. Never thought you hear those 2 words together. Lol, but it was such a blast to play. I miss this game.
54:00 Oh, so he's listening to a CD of Classical music...a guy named Alex...who goes around beating people up... *Clap clap clap* Veeeery well done, sir.

This is lowkey a major turning point for Kunio-kun series. I'm glad it was properly released localization aside & made "River City" a mainstay brand recognition for Kunio-kun outside Japan.
This game was seemingly an underground game. Hard to find, and I was the only kid in my class that had it (back when everyone had an NES), and I loved this game to death!! Remember the passwords?? They were like 50 characters (small & upper case) long!! LOL.
KID: Mo~om, that white shirt guy is beating up the local thugs with our trash can, aga~in! MOM: Which thugs were they again? KID: I dunno, they changed names as soon as he left.
The final stage music is from Double Dragon. And in the game the pair of bosses there are called the dragon twins. Both games were originally produced by Technos Japan.
Indie development house Combit Studios has announced that it will be partnering with River City Ransom EX developer Million to create "an official, worldwide follow-up to River City Ransom." The game will be available for Windows in August of 2014, according to Combit's official blog. They're making a new one for PC.Great news!
The one endearing thing about this game is the sheer number of times to just fun with it. How many of us played with two players and play a round of baseball with the rock and lead pipe? Or even better, a weaponised version where one player runs and throws the rock, to have the other hit a line drive at an oncoming enemy? I have dented many a forehead in this game with that nasty trick.
I remember collecting all the change for the damn Excalibur sword only to be told it was to heavy to lift....but those were some fun time. Definitely one of my favorite of all time.
One of my favorite games of all time! I wish they would remake this game in 2.5D, with cel shaded characters and animated backgrounds, complete with comic book cutscenes. And sell it as a downloadable arcade title for $14.99.
Wow, what detail...32:00 from the books you read and the things you see hah, funny, this game must have a revamp but must stay as close to the original as possible including the unending numerous baddie names being able to carry your weapon to the next stage!? ingenious, a simple pleasure I've been wanting for so long and oh, is that double dragon music 37:07 Hahahah greatness
OMG! We used to play this game ALL THE TIME when I was a kid. The sticks, beating people with other people and collecting cons. I love it. Thanks for this.
Acro Circus allows the player(s) to perform a somersault when jumping, Stone Hands enables a rapid-punch, Dragon Feet for a rapid-kick and Grand Slam a weaponized assault; are there any others?
omg, that wheel is indeed ultimate weapon lmao. Guy throws wheel into the wall, rebounce, hit the guy in head, dude stands up, wheel hit him in the but, all in 1 move 1:00:49
My best friend and I used to play the hell out of this game growing up. Nothing like that GRAND SLAM.....extreme violence and extreme pain. Machine gunning a person down over the head with a pole lololol
Still a great game that i own to this day with my first NES from back in the 80s. I have crazy codes still for this game too. Love the longplays that u do!
♫Now I'm gonna beat you, with a metal trash can, You'll turn into a coin and I'll spend you like cash man, I'm gonna read a book to learn how to kick your ass 7 times, boom chichi boom chichi boom chi ♫
i remeber seeing the character from this game as a playable one in super mario crossover but it was actually one of the skins for simon belmont just a smol fact
0:50 that's right , he just disarmed the bad guy by throwing a fucking stick at him then knocked his ass down, picked his ass up and tried using his body to beat the next baddies ass. Then he took their lunch money and wandered off to find more ass to kick. 3;12 wait, did he just run race first into a wall and knock his own ass down? Yes, yes he did. Sometimes you're such a badass you gotta go out of your way to give the bad guys a chance. 6:00 oh yeah, did I mention you could use all that stolen lunch money to buy books and food and shit to make yourself even more badass? Well you can! 7:25 Alex throws a guy across the fucking screen and knocks another dude out. C'mon! 8:02 BIFF! Seriously this is a great game and well worth a playthrough.
Me and my older brother used to love playing this together back in the day. Just came across this video and teared up a little watching this because my brother is no longer with us. But I do cherish times we had together like playing this game together! RIP Bro!

River city ransom--in my opinion, one of the top ten games made on NES.
celieboo now with online multiplayer...
THE BEST
Agreed. I Really Love The Story And Plot Of It. It's Like Super Mario And The Legend Of Zelda All Over Again.

This was the funniest video game I can ever remember playing for the NES. I was laughing so hard at that part near the end where the Double Dragon music starts playing.
It's a 5 star NES classic that I am sure is on top of many peoples lists.
River City Ransom: The thinking man's Double Dragon.
This is one of the best comments I've seen on this platform.
River City Girls: The feminine Double Dragon
@Troy Tobias
What does "gf" stand for?
@Azariah Crew
Should I literally go to Flixzone?
@@brandonreina5461 River City Girls is nothing similar to Double Dragon except the premise.
this game is screaming for a next gen remake! so many ways they can improve on this with story lines, side quests and also making it more rpg focused
and then ea takes over
Oh shit any good?

Priceless!
Once I rented this from video store and completed it. I was about 14 years old teenager. I am now 36. Times flies fast.
Teaching my friends coop games back in the early 90's
It was a lot easier once you put in the money code, went to the hidden store under the overpass and purchased the super fast punches and kicks....
Good ole Nintendo Power...
I am now 33. I still remember this game was stolen by my elder school mate.
I was 7 year old , and he was 12. I was scared to ask him for that.
I’m 35 and feel your pain bro
me the same.37 ...you are right time flies..my son is 21 and i am waitin (my wife) for another son/dauther .She is sleeping now (1:30 am in italy now) but i am playing it like once on my snes classic mini :D

Cult classic gem!
"And the gangs returned to class and became honor students".
Something about those Super Dodge Ball style graphics that oozes greatness.
I loooved getting my character all swole out. By the end it was no contest at all.
Biff: Barf!
The number of missed homework assignments playing this game. Lol
I guess the dudes throw up when they die. They always yell "Barf!"
lol

Hi I get to 33:48 scene but River City H.S. stays close and Ivan doesn´t show up. What I am doing wrong? If any body can suggest something I apreciate
You must defeat Blade before go to the River City H.S.
KID: Mo~om, that white shirt guy is beating up the local thugs with our trash can, aga~in!
MOM: Which thugs were they again?
KID: I dunno, they changed names as soon as he left.
I loved this game. Me and my brother played this game 4 like 100 plus hrs back then. It was like a open world double dragon game. I miss the 80s man
Me and my brother finished this game together back in 1990. the good old days.
I'm a little confused...why did he beat the game at 39:10 and then go back and beat it again at 1:03:42?

oh man hearing the game again seems like i just play it yeserday...the memories
Strange how RCR used Double Dragon's song in their game towards the end. This was a fun game to play back in the day.
That's awesome. Close to the end, you got one guy to knock himself out with his own weapon!
I love how you could run and pop guys in the mouth with a right cross, fuckin great lol
"BARF!"

I loved this game growing up
Loved it, loved it, LOVED IT!!!! Nothing but great memories of this game
46:10 .. wow I can't believe I remember that secret shop I stumbled on as a kid when I played this all the time. I never could get to the end though.

They don't make them like this anymore
Well, actually, they do.
1:01:29 is the title screen music and final stage music which was stolen from "Double Dragon" for the NES.

+Musicradio77 Television Network both games were made by the same company, the Kunio-Kun series is traced back to a game called Renegade.

one of my all time favorites
Prequel to Yu Yu Hakusho could play like River City Ransom lol. The "evil power" at the end was him being possessed by a demon.

What about riding on top of a moving tire.
I remember password of 3 lines of 10 character with uppercase and lowercase. :3

Same company. :)

+jllovit And also the title screen from "Double Dragon" as well.
Porque sale la música de Double Dragon en el final? si alguien sabe les agradecería mucho su respuesta
Me and my friend when we were kids played this and we used to laugh so much at the funny figures and comentaries the enemies make.
I remember once I got the Grand Slam ability game over nobody was stopping me whatsoever.
Mi juego favorito
LOL "You're as mean as a ZOMBIE!"
1:01:28 Double Dragons music out of nowhere!
+Jakerocksteady i think its their way of paying homage to billy and jimmy lee, the Dragon brothers.
you mean Bimmy and Jimmy?
Same company that made the original Double Dragon made River City Ransom.
I loved this game so much as a kid. Played the absolute hell out of it. More fun than anything little 14-year old me had ever seen.
I remember there was a secret store during the underpass section at 12:00
Never played it before how does it compare to remake? Game play also???
