Quick note that some of the specifics on Kim’s contract emerged after we recorded. Also, thanks to Jeeho for finding a place to record despite the massive time difference!!
Excellent interview, Jeff! Very insightful, and thank you for getting clarification on the Korean “gold glove”award! Keep up the good work! Go Dodgers!
Great to hear Jeeho's assessment of the newest Dodger. It'll be interesting to see if Kim maintains his recent neutral splits at the plate. And, more critically, if he can quickly adapt to MLB pitching.
Ohtani spoke with Kim. I don’t know what they said but sho was like I wasted 7 years in Anaheim and one year with la I made the playoffs set records and won a World Series. 2:25
the way jeff spiegel says his name is absolutely correct. But if you've said " hey..sung... kim" that's acceptable too. "High Sung" / "Hi Sung" or even "Hee sung " as many say are NOT acceptable
@therealbs2000 Correct. People still have a hard time as its difficult to say his name. "Hey sung" is acceptable , easier to say, and doesn't go off much to the original pronunciation
Trying not to read into this but that’s a lot of money for a bench player, so does this mean Kiké isn’t coming back? Also does this mean no international pool money foe Sasaki?
I would expect Friedman had something in the works when he decided to sign Kim. There is redundancy in the infield and utility positions that need to be ironed out. I would expect a move for either a reliever or a drastic position acquisition in a package that includes lux or Taylor or Rojas as part of it. Kim arguably is an upgrade over all of them. I believe Muncy should also be upgraded at this stage if his career or at least should be platooned. I think the team could go high leverage reliever, third base, or even a level up at short to force betts to second. He is not a shortstop. Don't buy the whole, "he has a full off-season to prepare" line. He has never played that jet position before and a couple of months of grounders won't suddenly transform him into an above average, heck, even a league average SS. Players spend years to become capable shortstops. This appeasement of Betts needs to stop.
@@Yosoyjustin2700, I'm with you. Friedman seems to know a thing or two about this baseball business so I'll give him the benefit of the doubt on all things personnel-wise.
Kim is definitely not an upgrade over Lux, Taylor, or Rojas. Right now all Kim can probably do at a Major League level is run (his speed). His defense is going to be mid at best and his bat isn’t going to translate. He is a prospect and no prospect is better than proven Major League talent. Kim will not be a regular on the Dodgers roster.
@@seoulman912 Yeah, that's why he was signed to a three year contract with a two year option, because the team doesn't plan to use him. Do you even follow the Dodgers?
Acting like Kim can't play SS while trying to spin that Mookie is good there is funny. We've seen Mookie at short and saw that he shouldn't play there.
Im in the belief that it was put in his contract that he would be giving a shot at shortstop. I remember Betts saying he didn't particularly like L.A. when he first got traded here. That he was an east coat guy. I think the Dodgers, in order to get Betts to sign long term, did some kind of promise around the shortstop position. There's no way Dodgers really believe Betts is the best option at short, thats why I believe in my theory
as much as i want Robert, there is no spot for him. LF Conforto CF Edman RF Teo, SS/2B Mookie, 2B/SS Kim. Only scenario is Kim ends up being a bench player then Edman can play either 2B/SS.
@@joooooe88There is still room for Robert Jr. Having Robert Jr in CF would allow Edman to be the everyday SS. Moves Mookie back to 2nd. Of course Lux would be gone, Kim is a utility guy off the bench. Conforto/Pages platoon in LF.
Why are you giving more attention to a minor Korean player than to Teo’s signing? Fo you realize Teo was significant in us winning the WS? You’re giving priority to this guy over him?? You’re making such a big deal of this and the KBO isn’t on the level of the NPB at all! You’re hyping this guy up who’s just a utility player. This no name guy can’t carry Ohtani’s jock strap! Ohtani is still the best Asian player in the MLB!
Lol. found the racist. Are you upset about him being a utility player or that he's Korean? Nobody is comparing Kim to Ohtani lol. Were you upset about the Yamamoto signing? Are you going to be upset if we get Sasaki as well? Neither can hold Ohtani's jock strap either. Oh wait, they're both Japanese. What else is there to say about Teo other than "he's back?" He's a known commodity. What, are we supposed to talk about the quality of his bat and his outfield play? We already know all that. This is a new player that few people know about. It was also unexpected. This is a player that takes a roster spot while the team is still figuring out Kiké. This makes it more difficult to open up a spot. It's an important topic.

Poor Jeff, these Korean names are killing him. lol
Great interview and insight into the Dodgers newest acquisition. I hope Kim Hye Seong proves he is supposed to be in the MLB.
Man this video went by so fast, I don’t mind listening to a hour of this and that rare
Thanks Ji!
Great stuff here
Roki and tanner Scott next
Mr. Yoo's background just gives me the creeps. I feel something gonna come from behind. 😂😂 BTW, great interview.

From what I've been told, the padres and its fans were chanting " Awe-some Kim " because it rhymes with " Ha-Seong Kim "

7 million for a good utility guy is dirt cheap when you pay Taylor 15 3:45
So Kim is basically going to be a CT3 future super utility replacement with no big league pop, just simply K-pop?
I don’t see him on the 26 man assuming health all around until next year. He should play milb to accommodate the velocity difference.
So they got a gg, fast utility guy that’s way younger than edman and Taylor. Probably less pop but way less ks than Taylor
By the sounds of it, the Dodgers should hold on to Lux, but CT3 might be in trouble😉
