    I live in the northeast. Past versions of FSD have not worked well here. This version is a big improvement. I’ve been using it for the past 5 days. Most of my disengagements have been to avoid hitting potholes in the road. Our roads always have a lot of potholes this time of year after the winter weather. These usually get patched in the spring.
    The next biggest issue is FSD putting the car in the wrong lane. The most common scenario is the car moving into the “right turn only” lane even though it is going straight.
    I also have to disengage around schools and construction sites. FSD doesn’t recognize crossing guards or police officers directing traffic.
    Great video!

    They are clearly on to something. I think they are just having the system learn. The true test is to see the level of improvement over the coming weeks or months. Some of the breaking actions I THINK are due to NTSB regulations. I was always skeptical of FSD working but I am absolutely impressed at how far the technology has advanced. Even what they have achieved to do I was skeptical that this was possible. My hats off to all the engineers involved. What they have achieved with Cameras and software is impressive. I am curious to see the progress in the coming months.

Still needs some work, but last night it drove me down to Waseca & back driveway to driveway with only one accelerator tap at a stop sign. Pretty nice.

    FYI: Tesla said HW4 is not being utilized by FSD yet.
    3:55: Crept too far into road, fully blocking a lane. Granted the lane appeared to be a new lane, so not blocking much.
    4:33: Fails to utilize median and does not take initiative when left traffic was turning off.
    6:15: Dodges around stopped traffic to keep going straight at intersection.
    7:35: Pulls into both lanes coming out of PL.
    9:08: Swaps to less backed-up lane at light.
    15:16: Indecisive lane selection into wrong lane into hard brake.
    17:30: Indecisive lane select into good right turn despite slightly confusing road markings.
    18:25: Goes extremely wide on right turn.
    24:20: Indecisive lane selection again.
    25:00: They're unveiling the car model that they will use for their robotaxis, which should be pretty much the same as the compact car they are set to produce next year. I don't think we'll see more than the car, maybe app implementation, business model, and potentially a demo drive. I'd say they might also have gotten regulatory approval in an area but apparently that's not a thing; autonomous driving is legal by default in most states.
    25:20: Good UPR.
    25:55: More indecisive lane-selection.
    34:15: Successfully navigates underground parking lot.
    Man, it sure does have a lot of lane-selection issues in your area! 😯

    I've never had FSD before and started the free trial (12.3.3) about a week ago. My experience is similar to your video. Mostly it's pretty damn good. My biggest complaints: 1) hesitant to go sometimes when it should, 2) when two turn lane choices are available it is sometimes wishy-washy deciding on the lane, 3) the auto speed sometimes goes too fast thru neighborhoods with 20 mph speed limits, 4) and it doesn't do very well at avoiding potholes. But overall, I'm very impressed and optimistic that it will get better fairly soon, given the speed at which AI can learn, especially since Tesla now has enough compute to make it happen.

    • @DerekDavis213
      @DerekDavis213 2 месяца назад

      _given the speed at which AI can learn, especially since Tesla now has enough compute to make it happen._
      But that entire sentence is based on promises from the Marketing Dept at Tesla Corporation.
      The public has no idea to what extent that is even true.

    • @meganote
      @meganote 2 месяца назад +1

      @@DerekDavis213 I won't debate with you about marketing and that the general public is clueless. But I have 30+ years experience in software and have been working with some open source AI neural net projects and following some of Andrej Karpathy's tutorials (i.e. how to implement transformers). It quickly becomes apparent what can be achieved with LLMs and also how compute intensive they are. Compute and data are indeed major constraints. Tesla has the data and the money to buy the hardware and talent to make it happen.
      FSD won't be perfect until Tesla's AI model achieves the equivalent of AGI for driving. It's a similar path to progress as with Chat GPT and other LLMs. They have gotten pretty darn good fairly quickly, but still occasionally exhibit some odd behavior... same with FSD.
      So Tesla has trained the AI driver, and it's pretty good, but still shaky at some things (like a student driver). The only way it can improve and gain knowledge is through experience. In AI, experience == lot's more data and compute.

      @@meganote 'They.... still occasionally exhibit some odd behavior... same with FSD.'
      And when FSD makes mistakes, there could be *loss* *of* *life* . Do you see the difference?
      And driving in the real world has almost unlimited edge cases, that FSD will not be trained for. A human can think and reason, and instantly adapt to strange or unknown situations.
      FSD will never be capable of that.

    • @meganote
      @meganote 2 месяца назад +1

      @@DerekDavis213 Yes. This is why the current version of FSD requires human supervision, although it is suprisingly good. Once AGI for driving is achieved (I'm guessing 1-3 years), it will be better than all human drivers and many lives can be saved each year. Currently, there are approximately 20k lives lost in car accidents each year (in the US). The majority of these lives could be saved. Do you see the difference?

    • @DerekDavis213
      @DerekDavis213 2 месяца назад

      @@meganote Current FSD is pointless if it requires 100 percent human supervision at all times. It is easier and safer to just drive the car yourself.
      Elon never promised 'Supervised Driving'. He said it would be Self Driving, with no human input required. That's what he said 8 years ago.
      20k lives lost in car accidents each year? So what? That is not even in the Top 10 causes of death in America.
      And what is your solution? Level 5 Self-Driving for everyone? That does not exist and may never exist.
      Less than 1 percent of cars in America are Tesla, and only a small percentage of those people paid 12,000 for FSD.

    I've had some of the same issues in this video on the new FSD. Mine hugs the right of the lane too close IMO, I've taken over for it because I was worried about it hitting the curb at 20MPH.
    We had a lot of rain here and it constantly sounds the alert sound over and over during the rain as if it didn't know it alerted me 45 seconds prior.
    The side cameras get an "occlusion" warning at night.
    It does not follow the speed limits I set, sometimes it is way more cautious to the point of going 15mph below the speed limit.
    The biggest issue I've had is it detecting the NY State route 5 signage as a speed limit sign, causing it to slow down fast to 5mph on what might be a 55mph road.
    Overall I do see it as a big improvement, and I hope they are able to continue to develop it.

  • @tedgray489
    @tedgray489 2 месяца назад +1

    I have been testing FSD also and found that I really dislike the abrupt acceleration from traffic stops at street corners. My MY will start off at a reasonable pace and then suddenly speed up to the speed limit like it is in a race. Not a good way to save power. I normally get at least 4 miles per kw around town by anticipating conditions, but FSD is driving my average down. Also my MY originally traveled faster than the speed limit when set at the default of "average" especially in tight residential areas that even the speed limit is occasionally unsafe for the conditions, narrow residential, parked cars and work trucks. I found that the speeding problem is what Tesla calls "average" driving. If you set it down to the lowest choice it will still speed up (too fast) to the speed limit for that road but not exceed the speed limit. It speeds up so fast that it has to back off when it gets to the limit and then you get sort of a lurch forward when it backs off.
    I also have found that since the FSD was added, for no apparent reason a single swipe of the wipers will happen. No rain or water noted. All in all, not a very smooth driver. So far not a relaxing drive, working harder correcting small things and making sure the car won't do something stupid.

    25:00 Teslas have an internet connection so a robotaxi can be controlled by a distant operator when needed, not to steer but just to give high level "orders" such as "go", "wait", "overtake", "reverse", "change route", etc. With a few big screens to show cameras, the map, the car status, (...) I think an operator could easily understand the situation and give the proper order. The operator would be affected to a "situation" by an algorithm that could take into account the location, then if the operator could more easily handle all the cars having the same issue, and later all the videos could be used to train the artificial neural networks with quite valuable meta data.
