    As someone who lives in the arid western part of the country, I miss out on the beauty of the east. Beautiful landscapes over there, thanks for showing those parts of the drive.
    BTW, you have a 2 minute segment around 14:30 that repeats itself.

    Been goingnfurther and further with my my. With the mapping showing you the next charger and expected amt of charge left, really helps me to let go the anxiety. Never see more than 2 other cars at 8+ charging stations. Sit and charge, pkay some chess. Catch up work texts anf emails. No stinky gas station. Love it.

    23:00 The $6/hr L2 charging is actually a great idea, for three reasons:
    1) it makes people more inclined to charge only enough to get to the next DCFC;
    2) it makes it possible for only two chargers to be shared among all of the guests who need them, and
    3) it discourages someone from using the charger for overnight parking (as there may be later arrivals who need some juice even more than someone who arrived and plugged in earlier).
    If overnight parking was what you had intended, Branden, no disrespect meant, but I wish all destination L2 charging would adopt this $6/hr model.
    Perhaps an even better variation would be $1 for the first hour, then $6/hr for the next two hours, then $10/hr for beyond three hours.

      Fixed $2 to initiate plus 50 cents per kwh is max reasonable on hotel L2. Nicer hotels should be free to charge but need to find a way to discourage non-guest charging.
      Hotel should simply install more units if that's going to be an advertised amenity. EV drivers are not going to be motivated to move their vehicles later in the evening for late arriving guests. Proper hotel EV amenity would be more L2 which are a little further from front desk to prevent icing. Also include stanchions to prevent these spaces from attracting a trailered vehicle parked horizontally blocking multiple spaces.

      @@brandenflaschSo it has to be first-come, first-served, the heck with the poor fool who arrives with a flat battery after you’ve already plugged in for the night? Law of the Jungle? There are already too many EVs on the road, to encourage one driver to tie up a destination charger all night. High rates (for charging) are the best way of rationing any scarce commodity.

    The problem is once you leave the cities or the interstate, chargers get slower and more rare. Most of the ones around me are like 8kw or 25kw... Basically would take all night to charge up... Not many 250kW chargers once you leave the cities or highways unfortunately.

    13:50 Love the layout of that SC location (FL Turnpike Turkey Lake Service Plaza has same architecture). It’s ready-made for CCS vehicles like my F150L (hopefully in just a few months) - simply back-in! Wish they were all like that, but with no curb at the end dispenser, for pull-thru trailer rigs.

    Ha! Was just at some of the places you were at two days ago. Did Boston, Salem, & New Hampshire. Highly highly recommended you take the Tesla on the Mount Washington Auto Road, NH to the summit if you are still up in the area & have the time. We were just there and used 15kwh on the 8 mile climb and gained back 8 on the way down. 2023 LR AWD Model Y

    I ran into the same destination charger issue (huge price per hour and I was sharing the connection) at a Hilton Garden Inn. I complained online about that. Hopefully, hotels will start to include destination chargers for free or at least a reasonable rate. i would be curious to see what your charging experience is like in Maine. I'm in Vermont and once you get off the interstates, the charging options go way down.

    I think all of Maine's Superchargers are currently $0.42/KWh. Some of the ones in the Boston area are even more during the day. New England power prices are among the highest in the Lower 48.

      On my last road trip from Ohio to West Texas in My Bolt EV. I ran into a guy west of Memphis. He had an Ioniq 5.
      We were chatting about home Utility rates. He was shocked at my home rate of $0.12 per Kwh..
      He said he was paying $0.67 per Kwh.. CRAZY HIGH. He was from California.. I think San Diego.
      That was DOUBLE the rate at the EA station we were at..

      It's a complicated problem. The California doesn't help itself by having unbelievable regulations for everything. You run a special blend of gasoline didn't no one else uses, that contributes to your sky-high gas prices. And I'm sure a similar situation is true with your electric grid.
      Certainly solar would help.
      We don't use that out here in the Southwest even though it would aid us even more. But we have plentiful fossil fuels and also some nuclear.

      @@kens97sto171 I think you misunderstood my comment. I know the California utilities use plenty of solar and quite a bit of wind, and several more gigawatts of wind is coming from Wyoming through a new powerline being constructed now, but what I meant was more and more customers installing their own solar. The main issue with their rates is all the wildfires every year, many of which are caused by powerlines, which in turn ruins the powerlines and adds to costly repairs and replacements yearly, not to mention costly lawsuit settlements.
      The solution is solar parking lots. By that I mean Walmart Supercenter parking lots covered with solar providing power locally, negating the need for costly powerlines and their costly maintenance. Not only power for the stores, but for EV chargers. A single Walmart Supercenter parking lot full of 500 watt panels can charge 200 EVs per hour on version 3 (and even 4) DC fast chargers. And that's not counting it's roof, which can power the store and another 100 EVs every hour.
      Now imagine all Walmarts, Targets, Home Depots, Lowe's, major malls, etc full of solar parking lots. That's what's coming. And, once again, it'll all start in California. Just like EVs and Tesla itself did. In fact, it has already begun. Ironically, all driven by those high rates, and high gas prices, which push people to their limits and drive the changes.

    Extremely easy, yep. And EVs don't spew toxic air pollution everywhere like gas vehicles do, so the air is much cleaner.

    Glad your road trip was so uneventful. Always enjoy your well made videos!
    Your friend Kyle related a horrific road trip in California with rude EV drivers that broke into waiting lines, with many charging unnecessarily to 100%, and a dead bank of Tesla Superchargers in Bakersfield; that horrified me so much that I have decided not to buy any EV, even a Tesla until the infrastructure is more in place, maybe never. I'm not brave enough to go on a road trip with half-baked technology and maybe it is not so wise with the self-centered mentality of America that is now the norm. I drove 1000 miles to Montana using my old Subaru Forester and only had to gas up twice with my biggest delay waiting for a hamburger at McDonald's. A trip in a Tesla would have required four charging stops and having to deal with backing into a space, perhaps sparing with other drivers who don't observe etiquette for waiting in line.

    How far north can you go in a MY? I mapped a trip from Minneapolis to Anchorage, Alaska. The last Tesla Supercharger is in Prince George, BC, about 1700 miles north of Minneapolis. So, perhaps 250 further north before I need to find a bear or a pack of wolves to push/pull me the rest of the way😊

      Northern BC is a little painful right now. BC Hydro is just opening a new DCFC north of Fort St John, but as of now there's no DCFC north of that until you reach the Yukon Territory (though BC Hydro is promising new DCFCs on the route next year)
      The Yukon is surprisingly good for such a remote northern jurisdiction, with 50kWh DCFCs in all highway communities.
      (Source: I live in Whitehorse and drive a Mach-E)

      Also: if traveling to Alaska from the east I wouldn't go all the way to Prince George (that's quite a bit out of your way). There's a new Supercharger under construction at Valleyview, AB and there are 3rd party options that should get you to Fort Nelson, BC.

    Thanks Branden. Do you know of a way to prioritize supercharger stops based on the cost per kWh? I find that my Tesla route planning often sends me to a particular supercharger station while there is another much cheaper one a few miles away (with lots of available charging stations). Thanks!

    Where did you order the silver "T E S L A" lettering emblems that's on the rear of your Model Y? Did the shop install it on top of the PPF they installed? Was looking to do the same thing (full PPF + TESLA badging on the back)

    Can you trust the Tesla calculation when it says 'enough charge to next charger' or do you give a 20% buffer over the Tesla calculation?

      @kv1930 what exactly would break down? The drivetrain is simpler than gas and most gas cars have even more complex electronics

      @@brandenflasch I agree about the moving parts,but typically only really expensive fixes,Transmission and engine replacement. On a Tesla you have Cameras,pre mature tire wear and God for bid the battery goes out and no warranty!

    How come you are charging 100% in a 4680 battery.. I was told by Tesla “do not go higher than 80% “. Isn’t 100% charge will reduce your battery life.. ?

      I have the same battery 4680 as yours, Texas built…. But I was told to go as high as 90 no more than that…on trips
      I thought LFP was only that can be charge 100%…,

      @@brandenflasch On how much real normal people not living above their means can afford to pay for a car. All car companies need 20 - 25k base econo model that people can afford the Model y would sell better at a more reasonable price point. EV car companies are finding out that people don't want their 40-80k cars. None of the are selling verywell.

    That level 2 charger at the Clinton NJ hotel is an outrageous ripoff. $6 an hour. Hotel charging right now sucks.

    On a 1000 mile roadtrip i'd see no savings on taking my Model 3 vs taking my Ford Fusion. At .40/kwh vs 3.25/gallon--30-32mpg @ 75-80mph vs 260wh/miles..it would be almost the same cost. We have talked about going out to California and i'd probably take the Ford--it also has a 17.5 gallon fuel tank so can cover a huge amount of miles between fill ups. I feel like gasoline prices are still to low for normie masses to make the jump to EV.

      EVs make much more sense when you can charge at home. The charging cost for 1 or 2 road trips a year is negligible at this point.

    Pretty sure no one with any type of mental illness should ever use a EV - EVs have anxiety written all over them unless for local travel only.
    I notice EV enthusiasts seem to be constantly worried/working on where to charge and range. So EV not good for many people.
    EVs are quiet to drive so that is good for anxiety.
    USA should give small EVs to people with mental ills - probably 10 times better than a psychobabbler (AND cheaper!!!)

    Gotta love our Charton SC where if anyone ever has to use the pull in one on the end because theyre pulling a trailer the drive through entrance to McDs is completely blocked... how they didnt catch that during permits is crazy. If you havent already swung back home and end up needing to stop at the Danvers SC (one of the newest in MA) I'd love a ping and can swing by for a hello hopefully and woudn't mind checking out that sweet wrap. person!(@bvtechie on all the things)
