The Cab slapped so much. One Of Those Nights was a freaking *event* when it came out. Getting both Brendon and Patrick on there was an absolute treat for the FBR faithful (and then those two went and made another slapper with 20 Dollar Nosebleed later that year).
So glad to have our cozy king back!

I remember angel with a shotgun being a big hit among the supernatural fandom on tumblr when in came out in 2011 because of the angel character castiel and I would not be surprised if the last few episodes of the show in 2020 played a part in it's recent resurgence

Angel With a Shotgun actually blew up in the early 2010s when it was being used in a lot of AMV (anime music videos) on RUclips! I remember when I was in middle school (I'm graduating college soon for reference) pretty much every series had an Angel With A Shotgun AMV. I'd say it was the most popular AMV song to use for some reason lol I think it was just the drama of the lyrics.

No joke! In high school we all had a graduation requirement that was this big presentation project called “The Mentorship Project”. It was a project where over the summer of your junior - senior year you would reach out and find a local person with a career job that interests you and shadow over them to give you a better understanding of what that person’s career and what a career job in general may look like. Anyways, at the time I was CRAZY into streetwear brands like Supreme and Bape, so I wanted to be a t-shirt designer. With the help of my teacher we found a place in my local area which is a print/sew-on house with in-house graphic designers. Since I was way more into the creative side of things, this was perfect - so I got in touch with the manager of the place and explained everything and that I would especially love to shadow one of the graphic designers. The graphic designer that ended up agreeing to work with me was Joey Thunder from The CAB! This was around 2017-2018 ish. He was such a cool dude and he was so eager to show me everything. He was the first person that showed me Junji Ito’s artwork, citing that as one of his favorite artists. I hadn’t gotten into emo at all yet. I was more in an angry than sad high schooler, so I gravitated more towards Nu-Metal at the time like Slipknot and Korn. I remember mentioning my favorite band at the time was Slipknot. He told me he loved Slipknot too and he had the chance to tour with them once and recalled them being really nice dudes. He was especially a fan of Clown and his art, one of the founding members. It was so cool to hear he had toured with them so I asked what band he was in and he said “The Cab”. Later that day I looked them up but I wasn’t into their music at all at the time. Just such a trip looking back on now

Just how big a lot of their songs was so nice to hear at the time, seeing angel with a shotgun blow up as a nightcore song on league of legends videos was hilarious because i was already familiar with the album and was happy to see more people knowing of it. I remember when their new singles came out and was hoping for a new album so much but still none to come, still hoping we get new stuff soon I love them. Randomly on a weekday night local show with my friend we went to a lot of local shows and I got to know a lot of the bands. Brendan and Spencer from panic were in a private room viewing the show at the venue I was at. probably (one of) the reason(s) "one of those nights" is so high up in terms of streaming numbers is the fact that it's got both brendon urie and patrick stump singing on it, and their vocals are pretty foregrounded and easily distinguishable (compared to some of patrick's other background vocals on other songs he's produced). so people who are fans of one/both of them but don't care much about the cab might listen to that song moreso than their actual singles to hear their other faves
also, would love to see a video on marianas trench from you, since you've apparently seen them live! they're one of my favourite bands but unfortunately never made it super big outside of canada. they remind me a bit of mcr in the way their albums all have overarching concepts and aesthetics that persist throughout the album cycle, just with a pop-ier sound. also some fun music videos (the ones for their "ever after" album all even tie together to tell the story of the album, like the tbp and danger days videos). no pressure if it's not your thing though

Hayley & Zac thought I looked like their friend from TN….I told them the news of joining said band…..they congratulated & we talked about Family Guy for 2hrs after the show.

1:02:08 Looking at the youtube upload date for the nightcore of Angel with a Shotgun, it actually was made back in 2012 (and currently sits at 249 million views), which makes sense since I remember that song being huge staple in early 2010s amvs and nightcore culture. I got that in my RUclips recommendations a ton as a kid, to the point where I kinda got sick of hearing it (though, coming back to it after like a decade, I've warmed up to it again like many pop songs from that era). The other song I remember hearing from The Cab was actually Living Louder, also from an amv. Always loved that song, even to this day I find it invigorating and emotional with that tried and true theme of temporarity and living the present to the fullest before it slips through your fingers all too quickly. I went back and listened to both of The Cab's albums in full finally after this vid. I think I actually prefer more unique emo-tinged style of Whisper War overall, but Symphony Soldier definitely still has some bangers even outside the songs I was already familiar with, and Living Louder is still my favorite song they've ever made. I never even heard The Cab's name or knew that they'd made those songs from my childhood before this retrospective, but it was a very pleasant surprise to go through their discography. Thanks for the retrospective!

I love this video so much! The Cab was one of my favourite bands when I was 15, and were actually the ones who introduced me to the emo pop / neon pop punk side of altermative music (before that I was only listening to your standard pop-punk / pop rock bands), so I loved learning about their history in such great detail. I listened the absolute sh!t out of Whisper War and it is still one of my favourite albums to this day. This City Is Contagious is the best song on the album imo.
Anyway, as a european, it was really difficult for me to get a physical copy of the CD and also ANY merch of them - which made my emo fangirl heart really sad 😂 the only thing I was ever able to get was (along side the CD) a rubber keychain that I lost one day at uni, I'm still pretty bugged about that lol!

One of those nights was on Rockband as DLC I think, and the Rockband version of the song was different than the album version. I don't know if was the demo version or what but the Rockband version was better lol.

Great video. What about a Rise and Fall of Drive-Thru Records. The rise was a bit before the timeline of most of your videos, but the impact of DTR on the scene cannot be understated! There’s a good story of Dashboard/Chris Carrabba verbally agreeing to sign with DTR and last minute signing with Vagrant. Could be a good deep dive…..keep up the good work!

I loved this band when I was younger. Songs like Take My Hand, Bounce, One of Those Nights, etc... were at the stop of my iTunes most played in 8th grade hahah! They were great. I had no idea they went on to do some touring with Avril or Maroon 5. I could see it though! Alex Deleon seemed to have had the drive and talent to do big things. I hope we get more music from The Cab or other musical projects from him!

Went to secret valentine tour in 09 for versaemerge. Their van broke down and they barely made it in time for an opening acoustic set. I will never forget it bc they ousted the drummer and bassist shortly after that and I never got to see them play with the perceptions line up 🥲 the cab was okay tho. I got a pic with Alex Marshall (keys) that night lol

Late April 2024, the band's Instagram showed a preview of a song from their completed album. Looks like they're coming back, like Cassadee Pope! It'd be awesome if they either did a collab, or a modern edition of their joint version of Take My Hand.
