Yep. Leon produced AND wrote a lot of their material. I watched a documentary about them. They had a slimy manager who convinced them to vote Leon out. The slimy manager bumped heads with Leon previously, so getting him out of the way was planned. The group got ripped off by the mgr. 50% of their earnings went into his pockets. Leon would not have allowed that to happen.
I think all the sibling groups were awesome. Each contributed great work to a musical landscape! My favorite was with Foster, Angie and Pat...Misdemeanor. Leon's bassline is on that one is legendary
This is amazing. There is a period when they lived in the projects in the Watts area of Los Ángeles. Edmund briefly attended Markham Jr. High and innocently caused a stir among the girls by simply being good looking. They did endure ups and downs.

Wow! You went in the vault on this one 🎉 The Slyvers was one of my favorite groups. When I first heard their song Misdemeanor I was 9years old and I am still listening to them😊
I agree. I think songs like that "Fool's Paradise", "Wish I Could Talk To You", "I Remember", "We Can Make It", "Even This Shall Pass", "That's What Love Is Made Of" and "Misdemeanor" are some of the best records they ever recorded. They're not big hits like "Boogie Fever" and "Hot Line", but to me they're even better songs. Just my opinion. 🤷♂️

The Sylvers Sidenote, weren't The Jones Girls related as well as Tavares and The Gap Band? Also, The Bee Gees, Brothers Johnson & The Jets.
Leon Sylvers III is the second oldest (born in 1953, not 1943). The Gap Band, The Jets, and The Five Stairsteps are very worthy mentions of family groups.
Great video as usual. Thanks for sharing your hard work with us. Tavares gets my vote. They also worked with Freddy Perrin. Excellent work. Keep it going. Your dedication is appreciated. 💜

Other family groups not mentioned are the Staple Singers (Pops, Mavis, Cleotha, Pervis, and Yvonne) the Delfonics who had two brothers (William and Wilbur Hart) in the group and the Ronettes, which had sisters Veronica and Estelle Bennett and their cousin, Nedra Talley.

Okay ima do some more digging because I swear I couldn’t find anything regarding that. But if I can find something I’ll do a individual video of Olympia
I love The Sylvers. They had such a smooth blend as a family group and the type of harmony that seemed to shimmer. I love their earlier work, but was really impressed with the sound of their later New Horizons album. There were such sophisticated arrangements on that album that harken back to some of their earlier work, such as Fools Paradise. In many instances The Sylvers, in my opinion achieved a superior harmony than the Jacksons, though I love both groups. Thank you for the amazing work you are doing! 🙏🌹👑✨️👑🌹✨️🙏
First, again, you are keeping these Unsungs of music alive. Thank you 😊! Secondly, Wish That I Could Talk To You and High School Dance were my favorite, the fomer being my all time favorite 😉! Lastly, I won’t compare any of these groups. All of them are unique in their own way, with their own unique sound. Thanks 🙏🏾 again for the presentation.
Wow! I am shocked to see that "Misdemeanor" never charted. Way before it was sampled by rapper/producer Dr. Dre for a song by the D.O.C. entitled "It's Funky Enough", we in Chicago was partying to this Jam in 1973 and 1974, Foster and Leon's name was on everyone lips when talking about a great song, But It was released on Foster Sylvers solo LP and peaked at 31 on the charts in the US.
The song actually did chart. It hit #7RB and #22 Hot 100 in 1973. It was Foster's solo single and he charted with the first big crossover single before the group Sylvers charted with #1 hit Boogie Fever 3 years later.
The Slyvers and Debarge are beautiful singing families but the Jacksons are a tough act to follow. Michael Jackson was talented beyond his years along with the rest of his family. The Jacksons all have those beautiful bright eyes, chiseled cheekbones, gorgeous smiles, wonderful laughs, charming personalities, and back in the day great afro hair. I love all the groups but the Jacksons have had the largest influence in pop culture. A very timeless and distinctive singing style and dance moves.
I saw the Sylvers at the Apollo Theatre once and they sang in such phenomenal harmony. They sang the song: The Bells. By the group The Originals. I never heard anything so marvelous. They actually sang it better than The Originals and had extraordinary singing talent but did not have the material they deserved.
The Jacksons had Michael & he was an adorable big eyed EXTREMELY talented little fella. Plus they had a bass singer with Tito. The Osmonds had a bass singer too. Taveras were brothers with DYNAMIC voices.
Misdemeanor is my favorite and I loved that the DOC used the music and created Funky Enough. Another favorite of mine is That's What Love Is Made Of. I love High School Dance, New Horizon, and Fools Paradise. The Sylvers were incredible. I love them and The Jacksons equally.
It's probably been mentioned already - Olympia is the oldest not Leon, and the picture you have for Olympia is actually Charmaine. Thanks for your content.
Yes it has, that was my mistake I meant to say ‘53 but instead I said ‘43, and the picture of Charmaine was my mistake also, when I was gathering all the photos the website had that photo listed as Olympia, but that’s my mistake I should’ve double checked
Forever yours was an underrated LP. “ Come on down to my house” and remake of “Swept for you” where standout slow jams from that LP. It wasn’t a party LP but they had outstanding slow jams.
Funny thing is I'd never heard of the Sylvers until earlier this year when I saw a Facebook reel of Foster and his two sisters singing "Misdemeanor" on Soul Train. And I've been listening to it nonstop since then!
Misdemeanor is my absolute favorite. That bassline is killer and so unique and ahead of it's time. Leon really knew his stuff. The trio Foster, Angie,Pat sound so good together. It still rocks.
I remember The Sylvers growing up in the 70s. My favorite songs by them back then was Hotline, Boogie Fever & Cotton Candy. I got reacquainted with I Wish That I Could Talk To You, Baby when I bought The 1st series of Soul Train DVDs in the late 90/00s. It was many yrs before I realized that it was Forster Sylvers who sang Misdemeanor & not Michael Jackson. I feel a special soul connection to Soul Train bcuz it came out nationally the yr I was born, 1971. I honestly remember watching Soul Train when I was 2/3 yrs old, from the Soul Train commercials, my favorites were Queen of Sheba & The Black Code, the only black commercials at the time & you only saw them when Soul Train aired. That was another perk I really appreciated on the Soul Train DVDs, they included some really classic commercials I remembered growing up in the 70s. Leon when on to be a great producter of many artists after the group. It is very sad what happened to the family as a whole though.
You forgot The Winans Family, The Clark Sisters and Sister Sledge. But I believe that the Jackson family are the Most successful family group of all time. Also The Five Stairsteps. But my favorite song by The Sylvers is "Boogie Fever". You also had The Bee Gees. I also like Foster Sylvers "Misdemeanor ".
@marvinwhittaker I hear you. When I use the word bop, I mean it has a good feeling to it. I can step/dance to it also. I'm putting it on my playlist.✌🏾
Its funny Beyonce song Forever Young reminds me of The Sylvers song "Forever Yours " The Sylvers were a group of handsome and gorgeous brother and sister act. I don't think they get the recognition they deserve for their contribution to the record industry. They go back to the days of old Hollywood when they were small children. As they got older mature music should have been given to them an better producers as well. They are still loved by their many fans today❤🎶❤
Man! 1976 was the year I really discovered music. I was 8 years old but I was buying singles (well my parents bought them for me) and listening the albums the older kids were playing. I think I still have that High School Dance 45. I think Loving You IIs Like Loving The Wind was on the back. Man, I loved that song. Everyone it came on the radio I’d start clappin with the beat.
💞🌹We are so grateful that All these families gave us wonderful music & we can hear them all anytime we like over & over forever till the end of time🌹💞!
Leon Frank Sylvers III was born in 1953, not 43 and Olympia is the first child. The mother and father were both born in 1933. I know they didn't get married and have Leon, when they were 10.
I'm trying to figure out in the photo at 2:50, it was said the Sylvers had 10 children but in the photo there are 11. Who is the 11th child or young adult?
The littlest boy in the middle is Olympia’s son-I think that his name is Michael. Also, later on down the line Edmund had a son in the 80’s named Jeremy and he is an actor…he played the part of Tyler in Child’s Play 3.
Great story-new subbie here. @ approximately 10:54 that’s Olympia’s son Michael. Christopher is on the right hand side of Ms. Shirley Sylvers @ 11:05. Michael is on her left.
I know Foster Sylvers... I've been living with him for a couple months... He's a great guy and just misunderstood. He's battling cancer right now so he could really use everybody's prayers.
There’s no group today like ANY of the groups you’ve named.. I Loved them all because they each were unique in the their own way, so NO COMPARISON ✌🏽n 🫶🏾

Sidenote, weren't The Jones Girls related as well as Tavares and The Gap Band? Also, The Bee Gees, Brothers Johnson & The Jets.
Yes, Shirley, Valerie and Brenda are sisters. We lost both Valerie and Brenda, but Shirley is still singing.
@@angelafisher299 Thanks for reply and sad to hear of the passing of Valerie and Brenda. 🥀🥀
Do not forget the Village People 😊
Five Stairsteps, Sister Sledge
Leon Sylvers III is the second oldest (born in 1953, not 1943).
The Gap Band, The Jets, and The Five Stairsteps are very worthy mentions of family groups.
What about De Barge?
Great video as usual. Thanks for sharing your hard work with us. Tavares gets my vote. They also worked with Freddy Perrin. Excellent work. Keep it going. Your dedication is appreciated. 💜
I came to notice this group back In 2010, I immediately became a fan.💪🏾Thought how did I not know this beauty talented family 🤗 I thought about the Jackson family another one of my favorites ❤️ they really did deserve more recognition than what they go. Back to back hits🎶 i love forever yours🙌🏽
One of the girls was brutal ra$3d and lost her mind that’s why she left
I was looking everywhere for that and couldn’t find it. Was it Olympia? Or Charmaine ?
@@WBPTV watch unsung I believe it was the oldest daughter but from their mouth they said she never was right after that mentally got on drugs and all that but she better now
@@WBPTV it was the oldest daughter
Okay ima do some more digging because I swear I couldn’t find anything regarding that. But if I can find something I’ll do a individual video of Olympia
It was Olympia.
Greed/mismanagement has brought many empires to heel.
Great video! High School Dance is my favorite song by the Sylvers. I never get tired of listening to that one.
Looking forward to the Sylvers story.👍
Great job in putting this together.
My favorite song is Boogie Fever because I love to dance.😍
Olympia Ann Sylvers is the eldest child
You forgot Tavares, Sister Sledge, The Jones Girls and The Gap Band just to name a few
It was non-stop on the radio in Cleveland !!!!!!!
Jerry Butler produce my favorite album by the Sylvers. Boy, their cuts from the MGM days are 🔥🔥🔥
Hot Line, Boogie Fever were my favourite songs
I Wish I Could Talk To You! RIP Edmund, he was a friend of mine.
Edmund was a good friend of my cousin Derek Cooley Jackson from Solid Gold.
Congrats on 36K!!!!🎉
Hotlline is My Favorite Song By Them. Best Family Group # The Jackson's Next The Isley Brothers and Best Sisters Of Course The Emotions.
Thank you for this informative video on this great musical family.
Gladys Knight & the Pips were a family of cousins 🎶
The Jacksons had Michael & he was an adorable big eyed EXTREMELY talented little fella. Plus they had a bass singer with Tito. The Osmonds had a bass singer too. Taveras were brothers with DYNAMIC voices.
Sly & the Family Stone was family oriented for the most part;
bubba is her brother
They should have gotten more credit than what they had deserved. They were very talented and definitely had potentials.
My all time favorite Sylvers song is "That's What Love Is Made Of".
That’s what love is made of ❤
The Isley Brothers of course 1959 to the 2000's era that is amazing.
@@WBPTV 👌🏾 Keep up the great work!
THE BURKE FAMILY (THE 5 STAIRSTEPS)!!!!
Leon has been still writing songs for many artists
Fool's Paradise is still Funky !
Disco Showdown, Hot Line, Boogie Fever, High School Dance, and That's What Love Is Made Of. #RIPEdmund 😢💔🪽🌹
Christopher died from complications from hepatitis in 1985 at the age of 18. Edmund died in 2004 at the age of 47.
Yes, Misdemeanor was a bop! Forgot about Sister Sledge as well as The Clark Sisters and The Winans.
@@autumnsmom1117 "Misdemeanor" has a hip hop feel to it.
@marvinwhittaker I hear you. When I use the word bop, I mean it has a good feeling to it. I can step/dance to it also. I'm putting it on my playlist.✌🏾
The Jackson’s just had it. Something about them.
Love the Sylvers family they were all so talented and adorable Cotton Candy was my favorite song🎤🎵
I've always adored Olympia. She has the sweetest smile.
Olympia is actually the eldest child then Leon lll, Charmaine, James, Edmond, Ricky, Angie, Pat, Foster and Chris Sylvers.
This is so sad ! 😢
Edmond Sylvers released a solo album on Casablanca records called Have you Heard in 1980.
The album didn't chart and sell commercial success
@oholm09 OK I just wanted to corrected him. That Burning Love charted Dance #90 R&B #38.
@@TheBlackUnfold you go to billboard archives
Hi, first time here. enjoyed your content, favorite songs would be; Boogie Fever and Hotline
Lovin You Is Like Lovin The Wind was always my favorite song from the Sylvers😊
My favourite from the Sylvers in the 70s is "Hotline" and in the '80s "Come Back Lover". ❤
Hot line Boogie fever, High school high, Misdemeanor.
Boogie Fever peaked at Number 1 for a week in 1976… also Hotline was a big hit.
You forgot to mention
🌟 THE JONES GIRLS 🌟.
They are the BEST harmonized
female R&B vocal group ever!
COOL VIDEO!!
Forever yours, and got to have you are by far the most beautiful songs they ever made. Those two have a harmony thats heavenly
Angela Sylvers is beautiful 😍!
I just realized that they said Olympia was the second child. She’s the oldest
I’m glad I discovered them. And also, always rooting for queen Olympia and King Leon ❤
I love some of the Sylver's songs especially new horizons Leon Sylvers can write and produce also sing.
They are all unique in oneness. Falling for your love is my favorite ❤❤❤
Thet were a beautiful family ❤ but so many tragedies..😢
Love the Jackson favorite song by the Sylvers is boogie fever
I'm trying to figure out in the photo at 2:50, it was said the Sylvers had 10 children but in the photo there are 11. Who is the 11th child or young adult?
Christopher. Biologically he was not a Sylvers.
@@niecyj.1782 What was he to the family? A Relative? Adopted?
@@grosskopf2779I believe a different dad
The littlest boy in the middle is Olympia’s son-I think that his name is Michael. Also, later on down the line Edmund had a son in the 80’s named Jeremy and he is an actor…he played the part of Tyler in Child’s Play 3.
Great story-new subbie here. @ approximately 10:54 that’s Olympia’s son Michael. Christopher is on the right hand side of Ms. Shirley Sylvers @ 11:05. Michael is on her left.
The five stairsteps, the Gap Band The Mills Brothers (old school) Brothers Johnson! Love them all, but I was a Big Sylvers fan!!!
I know Foster Sylvers... I've been living with him for a couple months... He's a great guy and just misunderstood. He's battling cancer right now so he could really use everybody's prayers.
The Sylvers "Love over mind"
There’s no group today like ANY of the groups you’ve named.. I Loved them all because they each were unique in the their own way, so NO COMPARISON ✌🏽n 🫶🏾
Isleys longevity is tops.
Foster's Misdemeanor I still play.
Even This Shall Pass Away - The Sylvers III Album
