    Dayton Ohio is the center of the Funk Universe. I moved to Dayton in 1977. First concert i attended was Parliament Funkadelic and the Brides of Funkenstein. That was ‘79 at Hera Arena. Changed my life. Used to listen to Heatwave, Lakeside, Sun, Zapp featuring Roger, and Slave. Midnight Star was from Cincinnati and Ohio Players had members from the Dayton area. WDAO was the radio station that i heard all of this on. So many great memories of the late 70’s early 80’s.

I have all of their LP's from 1977-1983. Excellent Funk, R&B, and even some attempts to capture AOR (Album Oriented Rock) attention. The Funk group Slave was one of the most influential groups of the Funk era. They always delivered the goods. From the first time that I heard "The Hansler" play the first note of their debut single "Slide," I became a lifelong fan of this extraordinary group's music. Among my favorite songs of this phenomenal group are "Stone Jam," "Stellar Fungk," "Just A Touch Of Love," "Bad Girl," an unreleased gem from their "Bad Enough," album, and of course their 1977 debut single from there self-titled debut album Slave. Rest In Power to the Brothers who are no longer with us physically. They belong in any hall of fame that acknowledges top-tier artists. When they came out with slide that was a game changer for the funk era, that song was hard as hell. Everybody hit the dance floor when the DJ put it on. People with their cars had to upgrade the stereo's and speakers because of how hard the bass was hitting. I also liked baby sinister and volcano rupture on the hardness of the world LP. Stella fungk was another hard one. When me and some of my friends use to sit around listening to music and somebody would say "put on some hard rock" slave is the go to. Slave is my favorite funk band of all time. In my opinion Slave's best songs are not just there radio hits. If you are a true Slave fan you dive deep into all of their albums. For example everything on "The Hardness Of The World ". My favorite cut is "We Can Make Love". "Showtime" Lp , The whole album is "Smokin". My favorite cut. "Spice Of Life". "Stone Jam" Lp. The whole album is BAD!!! Same thing as there debut Lp "Slave" I love all them cuts. Slide is one of there best ever cuts but my favorite on that Lp is "Screw Your Wig On Tite" and "Happiest Days". Last thing I will say is when you listen to Slave don't sell yourself short by just listening to there hits because you will be missing out. In our lifetime there will never be another band like this. Enjoy it while its out there. Slave fan forever!!!

    Slave not only deserves any HOF recognition out there, they should be mentioned alongside the greats of Motown, Stax, PIR, etc. l personally consider them Black Radio Royalty (Yes I said Black). Despite the lineup changes and musical trends, they stayed true to the funk( or Fungk) and didn't crossover. YOU had to crossover to them. Respect to Slave and the family tree( Steve Arrington's HOF, Aurra, Deja) RIP to all of the fallen members and Justice for Mark Adams ⚖️. Favs are Slide, The Party Song, Can't Get Enough Of You, Stellar Fungk, Coming Soon, Stone Jam, Watching You, Feel My Love, Snapshot, Steal Your Heart, and in case you thought I forgot, Just A Touch Of Love is timeless, still sounds like the first time each time!✌🏿

    As a kid growing up in Toledo, OH, slave was a major inspiration for myself and our band, while we were still in high school. I was bass player, and had the chance to meet Mark in Dayton when I was about 13 years old.
    Mark’s influence of heavy out front bass lines is still heard in the music that I make today, .. under the name of “Mork XL”

    This content was great 👍🏿 in my family my older brother was the music man so when he heard something he immediately brought it home and I listen to it the first time I heard slave I think I was 7 or 8 years old in Oakland California, I don't know which one is my favorite all I can say is a lot of them, that band and those songs hold some great teenage memories for me 👌🏿👍🏿

  • @edwinstovall3334
    @edwinstovall3334 3 месяца назад +2

    I was a teenager during the 70s, but more importantly, I was also learning to play the electric guitar. I had already been listening to hard, rockin' funk courtesy of the Isley Brothers 3+3 with the illuminating Ernie Isley. Slave was like the Isley Brothers band on steroids in many ways. The lead work on "Slide" set my teenaged guitarist's soul on fire, but like a true devotee of the funk, I learned the rhythm parts verbatim. You know how nobody gets to play Led Zep's "Stairway To Heaven" in music stores? Nobody ever stopped me from playing "Slide!" Indeed, I have often called "Slide" the best funk song of the 1970s, so I figure you can guess that I'm voting for "Slide" as Slave best song. (I can just hear people sayin', "Gee, ya think!?⁉"😆)

    WAIT FOR ME & PARTY LITES, are my top two favorites, weird choices maybe, because of the other monster jams are so prolific to funkateer fans of Slave, but I started my discovery of Slave with the Showtime album at age 15, because of there hit song: SNAP SHOT, but Wait For Me & Party Lites, really struck a chord (no pun intended) with me at a young age,…those groove’s, keyboard arrangements, bassline(s) & Steve’s odd-vocal inflections on his lead & backing vocals, very interesting & the band had a very unique sound in a very competitive funk genre at the time…great video, thanks…
