In this video we revisit the Fender Pro Junior IV after upgrading the circuit with the Fromel Electronics Supreme Mod Kit. This kit replaces several key components in the tone stack with higher quality parts or different values to open up the sound as well as mods for cooler bias and a new quality input jack and instructions for proper lead dressing. Hopefully you guys can hear the difference like we did. Stay tuned, much more on the way.

I liked the unmodded sound a lot better.. Thanks for the video!
DUDEE!!!!! Thanks for following up on this series! I'm looking to get one of these. I love the stock sound but was nice to see what you guys did to it.
Speaking of which, it would have been nice to see if the differences each tweak made along the way... Like a demo before and after bias, and then the upgrade kit before and after. that way we could see what tweaks we might want/not want to make along the way.
Either way. Really been looking forward to this video. Thanks again!
I had the Formal mods done about 5 years ago on my PJ - my tech made one deviation from John's instructions to tame the highs a wee. We reduced the gain a smidge too. At gigs where I know I'm gonna mic my amp, it's my go to - I always get questions from the guitar players who are shocked at how big it sounds. Hooking it into my 2x12 sounds killer. Yours has some extra highs it seems.
Dude I am realize you had another RUclips channel! Love all your videos man you’re freaking awesome!
WOW. This guitar looks like it was made out of the Noah's Ark by Noah himself! Great stuff.
Nice vid thx. I have a CS Ltd version, modded by a tech in Eastern France. He changed the GT EL’84s to NOS Mullards and modded the circuit adding a master volume. Sounds killer: you can now choose whether you want more headroom or make it crunch at bedroom level. The cabinet’s in pine and the Alnico Jensen also take part to the awesome tone. Plus the relic’ed tweed covered cab looks great :)
Yeah, it sounded way better stock lol. Sweet amp the PJ
Nice I think the hotter bias gave more gain. This is cleaner less breakup but sounds great. Pro Junior is a great little amp. I use it for some Allman Bros slide work!
I had my amp tech install an impedance matched L-pad on my pro jr to act as an attenuator. With this “pot”, I can crank the volume then suck back the output with the L-pad. It works awesomely.
Thanks for your work guys! You rock!
sounded better stock
Hard to compare bc here hes using more/dif reverb than the first video, or dif micing?
@@RDYC 100%, seems like he left the room mic on for this video or something vs. the first one
El84s are my fav tubes!! Tho this isnt the best sounding el84 amp ever(tho it may have been your tuning lol still sounds nice! Especially after tuning lol p.s. you guys are so cool and ya rip on that guitar!! On second thought that thing sounds damn good!
Can the Pro Jr be hooked into an attenuator, or would it have to be modded to have a speaker jack?
The un modded version sounds mo gooder to me.
Awesome! Major improvement in sound!
Tubes are called valves by the British. Electro harmonix made a mains powered overdrive called "Hot tubes".
Blank Steve let me guess its mosfet powered!! J/k
@@ronbrooks6518 it had a tube when it first came out in the 70s. But the smaller version now and the hotwax dual overdrive, definitely use mosfets instead of actual tubes.
Sounds better. The highs are tamed and richer in the mids! The filter caps fender uses in most of their amps are the IC'S . THEY ARE CRAPPY!! The F &T are great. Your the gun guy aren't you??
Is there an episode when you compare it to your Lazy J 20?
I think this mod kit was designed for the older Pro Juniors. I have one of these new IV series on the way so I haven’t played through one yet, but I have to agree with other comments, and I’m not trying to be an ass. I really don’t like the sound of these mods at all. I think every vid or recording of the new IV series sounds stellar. Maybe I will change something but I have a strong feeling I will be very happy with the stock amp.
Hey this is off subject, but what loop pedal do you use again? I want to buy one and I remember I looked up the one you were using a while ago, but can't remember the video where you mentioned it anymore.
Electro Harmonix Ditto Looper 2X
Iraqveteran8888 Don’t you mean a “TC Electronics” Ditto x2 😇
@@Guitarsenal Yep! I ended up buying the regular Ditto. I friggin love it! Thanks!
Damn Eric ! Didn’t know you played guitar ?!?! Thought you only played with guns 😂😂... ! But your good guitar player awesome 👍👏👏
If you are going to do a comparison... You have to mic it the same, play the same music, use the same pedals, etc. So, we still have no idea how the mods sound.
Nice again Fender.
I think they are doing a good job of improving this line of amps. The version IV isnt bad at all. Definitely better than my dads old gen 1 Pro Jr
Guitarsenal Yep 👍. Great guitar too. My main gear here in Patagonia Chile are. 67 Deluxe Reverb and a new 68 custom princeton. Old and new. Both are great... 60’s tele, 60’s strat and a plimsoul. Thats all. Lo it. Cheers!!
Part 1 doesn’t show up
Would y’all know how the Frommel kit compares to BillM mods?
Only way to know would be to buy a second Pro Jr, mod it, then AB them. Don’t have the capacity to try that at the present time
As far as I know, other than recommending re-biasing the output tubes to run cooler, BillM has no mods for the Pro Junior. Bill always focused on the Blues Junior and did not rate the Pro terribly highly.
Yeah...Bill M doesn’t do amps anymore.
Is there a better speaker that would hold the headroom just a little more?
Celestion gold will give you 3db more headroom.
Ragin Cajun will give you 5db more headroom and reduce the remaining boxiness (I say remaining because the version IV is already much more forward and less boxy than previous versions). But it will sound harsh for the first 30-50 hours until it breaks in.
HELLO HELLO DO YOU USE NOISE GATE PEDAL? THIS FENDER PRO JUNIOR IV NEEDS ADJUSTMENT OF BIAS? SOMEONE REPORT ME?
Fantastic guitar playing as always but to my ears you completely ruined the sound of this amp
Datgon it. Do I watch the. 45 Walther video or this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Still harsh but sounded better w the tone rolled off
The modded version sounds quite a bit more harsh to my ears. Need new amp guy. When my tech finished with my amp, it sounded 100 times better...no harshness, plenty of overtones, and a few tone stack options to boot.
“Welcome back everybody, today we have this old vintage Pro Junior. In the video we are going to get all the cosmoline and yak grease off of it and see how she works.”
worst sounding Fender Pro Junior I heard in my life! what is this crying thing??
u ruined it .original away better
SOUNDS LIKE CRAP!
If you want to display your guitar attributes, then say it, and be done with it. Kinda led us to believe there were some mods to the amp. Waste of time, and I unsubscribe. Thanks anyway.
What a terrible tone.
