    Thanks to your training, my horribly behaved rescue, that wanted to fight anyone and everyone (and was days away from being killed) now has complete off leash freedom every day with her ecollar. After 2 years of failed long line training, I binge watched all your videos and took 3 weeks to teach her what the sensation on her neck meant, and the result? She has grown into an amazing dog who plays so well with other dogs I've just got a puppy, they're playing together as I write this. Thank you.

      Why did long line training fail? And ecollar training succeed?

    • @sportysbusiness
      @sportysbusiness Год назад

      @@walkyourdog6584 Good question, I've often rerun the training in my mind to see what I could have done differently. She likes her own company more than humans or other dogs, and has a very high prey drive. She was perfect on the line, 100% recall. But as soon as I unclipped the long line (yes, I did use the trick so she didn't know if it was on or off), if she got a scent she was off and only came back when she wanted to. Because of the prey drive and constant fighting with other dogs, I had to be so careful with where I trained her. With the ecollar, she was never actually 'off lead', once she associated the buzz with coming back, and it didn't matter how far away she was (the collar has a mile radius!) she had no choice but to come back, as I would keep buzzing the collar until you could see her body language go "ffs, alright I'll come back!". Now I rarely need to buzz her, but when I do, the collar is essential.

    Your comment about owners not taking responsibility and learning how to handle their dog. Well some of them do not take responsibility and learn how to raise their children either.
    Thank you for your library of videos. Your explanation of the basics is clear and straight forward. Started with you years ago and still return for mental resets of my behavior with my dog. It is all training my behavior. The dog's behavior is not the problem.

    Just want to say Thank You for everything you have put on RUclips and your book. I originally started training hunting Retriever's back in the 1980's, when most people ,even the pro's,did not have the use of the e-collar correct. Your a wealth of knowledge. I am 60 years old now,and am a much more knowledgeable and patient person now. I am hoping you continue with helping dog lovers understand dogs and dog training!! All the best to you and your family!

    I like your training style. The only thing I have ever used shock collar for is recall, during off leash hiking where dog can range too far and take off after an animal. I tried using collar for bark cessation but found it overkill. I now let the dogs bark, but they do not get attention or food until they stop. If I start giving negative attention for demand barking, the dog uses the technique for manipulation. It took me awhile to realize that the dog wants to get my attention so badly that negative attention is actually positive reinforcement for the behavior. Using ecollar for training was a disaster. I wasn't good enough with the collar and ended up confusing and scaring the dog. Dogs do not learn well under fear and stress. Now I keep it super light and fun. The dog has to enjoy the training. And they do!

    Thank you so much Larry for your lessons and specially for the e-collar teaching. Using your method, I was able to play with my dog in the proximity of the football players, the dog not only did not launch to get them or their ball, but she ignore them and was focus to play, to the tug and some obedience in between, which we couldn't before, she launch on them even she was on Herm Sprenger prong collar and she would abandon playing with me or giving attention to me. At your recommendation I bought the Marc Goldberg & New Skete e-collar book, adding things from them, the general behavior of my dog became even better in no time. More, the dog didn't became afraid of the e-collar, didn't lose her desire to play, the recall is faster and better. Thank you! Thank Robert Cabral, thank Dave Kroyer, thank Marc Goldberg and the Monks of the New Skete!

Excited because of your real world hands on explanations.. Give the power to the dog! Good shit! I know this stuff all pretty well and have a good understanding of it. Up till now though, I haven't seen you convey this stuff as well.. The value is there with this one! Good Job!

    Thank you for your help with my labrador here in the uk. (I bought your book and the mini educator collar) I’ve not been able to find a local trainer who uses e collars. I was very reluctant to myself at first but I live in a rural area surrounded by fields with livestock (sheep and cows) so I need bullet proof recall if she is off leash. I empathise with your need to step back. It has been very ‘interesting 3 years’ to say the least and I’ve found that my screen time has gone up and up, which I’m sure has not helped me. So back to basics and enjoy time with your family and your dog. Best

Im a first time dog owner and im trowelling through the internet listening to all the every bit of info i can gather on raising my puppy. At one point i was even listening to zak george, but thank god i came across you and robert as my dog without realising action has consequences would have been a nightmare to say the least. One point i didnt understand about the mali and the "out". I dont understand how you "slowed it down", did you show the dog a different toy? Thanks larry

    Beckman dog training encouraged me to Porn Train my dog for couple of months and use a gentle leader. My dog was manageable (not respectful) but was a unhappy dog.
    I don’t blame Joel beckman for this but the fact is, I was encouraged by his videos.
    Luckily a local trainer convinced me to get rid of the gentle leader and finding this channel showed me that you could be your dogs best pal and get respected that way.

    I hate that you're stepping back, but I completely get it. The world has lost its collective mind, and good people doing good things are being crucified for clout. Meanwhile, average people are bombarded with so much BS... we don't know which way is up. But it's completely understandable that you need a moment. The world has gotten crazy and you have to take care of you and your own. Balance is important

    I find it ridiculous that you would condition the ecollar to behavior the dog already knows. Just the fact that 90 percent of pet owners are using the e collar incorrectly is a great reason they should be banned. I have seen some dogs be ruined by these devices. Your first 10 mins of video just confirms why these collars are abusive. It does nothing for relationship building Just because the dog is avoiding , doesn’t mean the dog is still not in conflict. If you are a good dog trainer, you don’t need this device. By the way i am not a purely positive trainer

      Not a big e collar guy but feel they have a place. I have one on my pit bulls when they are off leash almost all the time. It is very rare I press the button but it is there non the less as a back up should I need it.
      Now you show up at the field and my pits for whatever reason take interest in your dogs. My dogs stop listening and want to attack your dogs. Would you be happy I have an e collar? Only with the e collar I am able to stop the attack.
      You might say well these dogs shouldn’t be off leash but the reality is not every dog owner will care but they might be responsible enough to put an e collar on their dogs. Sure there are downsides to the tool but there are also benefits. Are you prepared to throw these away? I feel education is a much better option

    • @alisonvandyke2946
      @alisonvandyke2946 Год назад +2

      @@Mwyse414 yes I believe e collars have no place in dog training. If your dog does not have a solid recall then he should not be off leash. I agree with you education is key. I am not sure if there is such a thing as 100 percent recall no matter what the method you use. I have seen dogs go through electric fences that have been set at a very high level.

    • @Mwyse414
      @Mwyse414 Год назад +2

      @@alisonvandyke2946 what I am saying is when those dogs attack wouldn’t you be happy the other owners have an e collar on? You ban the e collar and they just going to let these dogs off leash.
      Is the next step to ban dogs off leash? What about dangerous breeds? Where does it end? You can’t guarantee owners are going to be responsible and not have their dogs off leash prematurely. Also you cannot guarantee anything inevitable and it is much safer in my opinion to have some backup if needed

    • @Mwyse414
      @Mwyse414 Год назад

      There is plenty of bad +R training ruining dogs. Should we ban treats? It makes no sense and bans don’t work. People will just use these tools in hiding unless they are truly worthless. If they are worthless a ban is pointless because nobody would use them.

      Just today I was out mountain biking and another biker had his lab off leash that he did not have control of. The dog ran up to another dog and the other owners picked up a stick about to hit the dog. Luckily he had an e collar on and I heard the dog welp when he hit the button. Yeah there are lots of problems with this situation but that dog turned right around potentially avoiding getting hit with the stick or a dog attack.
