- This lecture "The First Line of Defense Against Adversity" by Manly P. Hall was recorded on September 23, 1984 in Los Angeles. The transcript was once available in print and was corrected according to Mr. Hall's notes as Lecture Note 329. Therefore, it may not exactly match the spoken word here, but instead, it reflects and honors the changes Hall himself made at the time.

Sweet mercy,
This is more relevant in 2024 than 1984.
Time keeps on slippin', slippin'
Into the future.
He was speaking through lifetimes.
You left out a slippin!!😂
"It is a religion that goes inside, and gives us the courage to do better, to forgive our enemies, to continue to live in a world of uncertainties made certain and strong by our faith in rules and principles stronger than this world. Without this type of believing, we are not going to get over our anxieties."
Words like these used to make me feel how unfortunate that MPH is no longer physically with us, but more and more I'm grateful that his wisdom and voice is right here and now, whenever we're ready to connect to him. Thanks MHS for your tireless work.
Manly P. Hall is one of the wisest people I ever came across, if not the wisest one. I'm so grateful for finding him sometime ago. Thank you for making it possible.
Same here. A gem!
He reminds me of things I already know and confirms what I've found to be true. Even in these very difficult times there is also the power that comes to one in times of trouble no matter the trouble, help does come. I should know and it was Manly P Hall that helped me go from homeless addict i found Manly P Hall when i was staying in a salvation army shelter and about to lose my mind. Here it is 5 years later I've had my home now for over 3 years and I'm doing great doing what I love. It was because of manly P hall and these lectures that have been so lovingly preserved. Thank you with all my love, Kim
Remarkable man Kim
Thank you, Kim, for sharing your story of experience, strength and hope!
Similar story here congrats to all of your success
Bless you
I can relate, was homeless living on the beach all summer and every morning I would get up,listen to MPH and watch the sun rise. It’s actually all I really listen to anymore, and like you said he confirms the things we already knew. Very grateful for this channel..
Taped a long time ago.... and nothiing has changed. The sinister force that we allow to rule over us, consciously or unconsciously, has us chasing our tail.
Oh, this is one of those endlessly titillating Manly P Hall talks. Every sentence a lyric. 😅
Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. ❤
I always mention to someone when I can that even into his old age his articulation was still strong, coherent and seemingly unaffected by time. RIP Manly P Hall, and thank you for everything.
I think im addicted to gaining all this wisdom
Same here ♥️
A human who understood themselves and therefore others in a great and profound way. Pronoia certainly comes to mind. Thank you for preserving the wisdom this great human still has to offer. Gratitude and Blessings.
I really needed to hear this today. Bless Mr. Hall and his great wisdom. I'm so thankful for the access to these talks.
🙏💕
Life would be much better for all of us if these wise words were considered by all
What a great lecture. MPH is the goat.
This guy has changed my life in a way. His first sermon on the dangers of TV was so lasting, indelible and has been imprinted on my psyche. It led to me questioning more mindless habits we have that take away the luster of a full life.

Good morning Sages!
So, this was September 23, 1984. I think of where I was and who I was on that date. Wow.
I would not be born for another 12 years…
We swim along the eternal tide of Time… nowhere to go, but nowhere to stay
I love this man
I just realized I share a birthday with Manly Hall, March 18! ❤😊 Great minds think a like! So happy to have stumbled upon these lectures. Perfect fit for my beliefs. Thank you for sharing the wisdom.
Profound, 😅 bless you all.
Beautiful……..🌞
Intriguing as always...
Please do the 5 part "esoteric anthropology" lecture series someday 🙏 or at least put the 3rd part of that series which is named "the origin of race and languages" because there is no where on internet where you can find a correct and clean version of it 😅
We hope to get to this series at some point, and yes, our 3rd part is significantly worse than the others. Will try to do the best we can, thank you for the suggestion.
@@ManlyHallSociety well we all know how you improved the sound quality in some of pythagorean lecture series. So i have hope 😊

What a meaningful speech with profound insight that only a wise man who has lived, seen and experienced and worked hard within himself to overcome can give. Yet he is still more than this as he encourages the betterment of society in a way that reminds me of a certain quality present in Malcolm X which imo implies he sincerely cares for improving the well being of the listeners.
Becoming good can only be possible if there exists the opposite of good, otherwise it would not be possible to grow and choose integrity. Gods grace allows this dual condition. True awakening might simply be as small as choosing not to do something that might cause you harm in some way. But it is not simple when it's all you know and those around you accept it and normalise it. One thing about religion that freaks me out is the possibility that the individual alone must take so much responsibility in one's own salvation and carry it into eternity as you are, you'll be forever.
This journey inside this rabbit hole made me see this man was right we don't belong here. Let's go home where men don't grow old.
First viewer!! 💖🧘♀️🦋🙂

I’m wise but I still listen to MPH because I feel like I’m getting crushed from all six sides
As I listen to this brilliant mind, I’m pretty sure he’s been drinking, especially in his older years, but brilliant nonetheless; I learn something every time I hear or read his utterly impressive works.
Does the Want or Need outweigh the Have to. When you ask yourself that question, at times you already have its answer. It will become either your function or dysfunction, thus creating potential adversity.
God bless his soul.
Any chance that there's a recording MPH giving the lecture on the occult anatomy of man?

If you go to my mostly unremarkable channel, I have curated a whopping MPH Playlist. I suppose I could post a link...idk. I'm not sure of the ethics of that practice.
Anyway, if you like, check it out, and I wish you well ❤

Incredible discourse - This talk is full of Teilhards concept of Omega. Did MPH ever do any talks about Pierre Teilhard De Chardin - the jesuit priest and scientist? He would have been one of his contemporaries back in the day. Thank you !
It doesn't look like Hall gave a talk specifically on Teihard, but he did recommend "hymn of the universe' and 'the phenomenon of man' as suggested reading on several occasions.

I am that I am. What I am. Through development. Not sure there will ever be anything anyone could do to change what that is. I can strive to be better. And I should. But as much as I've managed to maintain a fairly high standard of interpersonal interactions and treat the people around me with respect, love and righteousness (those three concepts tend to overlap with each other though) it hasnt seemed to serve me very well at all... So it begs the question, what would possibly motivate me to be BETTER than I've been? Damn sure not perfect. First to admit it. But relatively speaking? I'm a fucking saint...
Sunday service with this great sage just starts the week off right

Allan Watts sounds a lot like this guy. Their manner of speaking, I mean.
In 1960, Alan Watts gave a lecture at this same auditorium - Manly Hall's Philosophical Research Society in Los Angeles.

Idk why is so hard for me listen Manly p Hall, i csme per jordan maxwell talks so much about him but i found it very Boring next to jordan or dadiv Icke o zecaria zitchin
Hall's voice can be relaxing.
He talks too much without saying much Using artful language which makes him sound more intelligent than he is lol
You Will Understand the Wisdom only when you're ready... 😅
Says the person who finishes a sentence with 'lol' ...
Every word a nugget of wisdom.
Listen again when you're older.
@@jimigrant6442 I’ve listened to him for a very long time - and spoke like you first - you’re turn away from this when youre ready. He’s Not real wisdom, but fake wisdom for the masses
@Barbyohlala333 , I'm not implying that he's the source of all deep wisdom, but there is much value in alot of what he's saying, particularly for people who have yet to encounter this knowledge. To say he's not worth listening to is simply your opinion.
