Brett, I am also Chinese and a lot older than you. I am from the f’ou t’song era. You have no idea how proud I am seeing you doing what you are doing. I remember being told in the 1960’s by western artist and professors, you Chinese cannot understand “our music” I did not listen of course but somebody with less self confidence would have been discouraged. Thank you. There is a message for our younger generation, we have been doing it for a few thousand years and just took a break for a century and we are back. Your second movement is quite exquisite. I am probably the oldest subscriber to your channel.
Not sure if "I am probable the oldest subscriber" is true.... Here is a retired high school teacher who absolutely enjoys Brett and Eddy videos! So happy to see how passionate they are on what they are doing!
Well done. Sometimes on the edge of my seat and routing for you. But you put your money where your mouth was. The performance all the better for it. Though you never claimed to be a top class performer you came through with a very musical and absorbing performance. Kudos!
The opening of the concerto is the most difficult passage in the whole piece. You have to play quiet, but you are playing entirely on the E string which can tend to sound overly bright and sharp. You have to slur everything, but shift from 2nd position to 7th and back again and somehow make it all connect. And just the fact that you have those octaves coming up next to keep in tune is nerve wracking.
The thir movement was epic! I usually listen to the variante of hilary hahn, and I must definetly say, that on some points I found it even better than hilarie's! It's really unique, and I must say, I'm.proud of those two, especially Brett!
When LingLing practices 40 hours a day, he's aspiring to sound like this. This is awesome. I've heard some pretty rotten versions of the Mendleson concerto before and this is what its supposed to sound like.
Well, I'm quite impressed really. Intonation problems here and there to be sure (3rd movement) ... but I loved the overall legato style for lack of a better word. I. think the conductor pushed the tempo beyond where Brett was entirely comfortable.
Brett, you have improved so much since 2016, as I rewatch your videos from the start over and over again. It cannot be put into words how proud I am for you. You started as just a normal violinist, and now, you are performing at the highest level! Well done and keep it up!

In the start Brett was nervous, you could see. He made a couple small mistakes. But then going into the 2nd and 3rd movement, he owned the piece !
Definitely. In the first movement he even tried to control vibratos tightly so you can clearly hear how stressful his playing is at first.
He really nailed the 3rd movement. Like he really did! He was way more relaxed too!! All in all he did a very good job
Amazing performance!
