  • Here I go through index style release aids for bowhunting and how to use them. More specifically I run through how I use them to get nice clean surprise shots every single time. These get a bad wrap here and there for birthing target panic, but when used in a consistent way, they are fantastic.

      Just wanted to add that adjusting the release to as short as possible was a total game changer..and using a piece of paracord to simulate the bow string is money 💰

    Outstanding information. I really appreciate the education. I am a rookie bow hunter but a very experienced long range rifle shooter and I thought my bow trigger should be super light... Your way makes 1000% sense!

    One of the very very few guys making videos that actually know how to set up and use a trigger. I was/ am a career quickie plus user. For years especially when hunting. Using a Wise Choice almost exclusively for about three years now. I really like using a trigger I think than the thumb. Both releases take a lot of commitment to use.

      Hey, thanks Tim. I was a puncher in the past! Wise choice is a great release. I think both releases have their pros and cons, and 100% agree that each of them take a lot of commitment. More of a mental thing than physical for sure. Thanks for chiming in. 👊🏼

      @@DialedinHunter one aspect of using either a thumb or trigger I try to relate to archers in the field or on some videos where shooters,especially young ones, have been set up totally “ wrong?”. is that with a proper set up the act of the release breaking will become an almost “ unconscious?” result. With lots of good thoughtful controlled practice one will find a sweet spot in the shot timing of the entire process. You will unconsciously react to the events of the process creating a surprise shot. In my process I am focused mentally and visually on some spot I want to hit down range to the degree that I’m not thinking consciously anything about the release manipulation. I call it- focus, push & pull. lol. The “ timing” of the shot cycle will become repeatable to within literally 1 to 2 seconds. Like you said- repeatability is paramount. Hey mam, I enjoy watching your vids and your article in a magazine recently. 👍👍👀

    I've always shot the trufire hard-core that has the barrel style adjustment with the fold back buckle. I noticed a few years ago that I couldn't shoot it like how you are showing here. On the shortest adjustment I can only reach my first knuckle(closest to the nail). I need to try some different releases. But you know how it goes. Get so used to something don't want to change if not having failures.

    That looks like a good way to execute the shot. I use the other technique you mentioned by using back tension and that works good for me. I may have to give this a try. Thanks for the good video.

    This is an excellent video on how to shoot a wrist rocket.
    I’ve been trying to execute w/bt but as you explained too much movement as I pull-thru.
    Lately it’s been different since I’ve just begin to imagine letting the strap slip off of my release hand while I keep the bow against the back wall. I guess that cud be the equivalent of just relaxing the release hand.
    Great explanation, thanks!

  • @WestonHoma
    @WestonHoma 2 года назад +1

    Yup great video. With my carter like mike 2, I noticed I was starting to get it once my wrist was totally relaxed and collapsed after the shot. Another good indication was the release basically falling out of my hands after the shot rather than me holding tight onto it through the shot

  • @sinepari9160
    @sinepari9160 Год назад +1

    you're using a zero travel index.. IF I'm seeing what you're using.. that thing is like a back tension if you just pull to the rear into your strap. I've used a bunch of different releases and enjoy the adjustability of the wrist/index types. You can argue. yeah you're not perfect on draw length but it matters.

    • @DialedinHunter
      @DialedinHunter  Год назад +1

      Yup. Zero travel. Love it. Yup, you can absolutely just pull. Personally, I did the whole just pulling thing for a bit and noticed I'd get too much shake. So, I switched to just trying to relax. Seems to break cleaner for me and less shake on target. We're all a little different. That's just what has worked best for me. Thanks for chiming in. 👊🏼

      @@DialedinHunter funny you say that. I had an issue with my Stan xtinction 2. The sear stopped holding after a few weeks outdoors i the elements. I had to flush it with pro 7 gun lube and work it a lot to get the sear to hold again. Seemed kinda picky to be used in the field. I have a tru fire hardcore that’s never had an issue if left or used outdoors. I’m about to buy a Like Mike 2!

    Nice thorough yet under 10 minute video. I have tried this with a Tru Ball BEAST single hook 🪝 release but must be doing something wrong. The tension screw goes from light to impossibly heavy in a quarter or half a turn it seems. Because this is exactly what I want to be able to do. Not that I rattlesnake the release like I use to, but anything to be more repeatable and consistent and accurate with my equipment hopefully out to 65 yards (for out west on pronghorn etc) 🏹
