Smokey & The Bandit Tribute Truck Ep.20 Making it Movie Correct

On this episode I continue with the ongoing restoration of this 1979 Kenworth W900A truck to turn it into a tribute movie truck to the one used in the 1977 classic movie Smokey and the Bandit with Burt Reynolds, Jerry Reed and Jackie Gleason. If you haven’t seen it yet, what are you waiting for??? ”What we’re dealing with here is a complete lack of respect of the law”
I start off this episode by showcasing the 22” split-ring wheels I found on a recent On The Hunt (Ep.18) and was lucky enough to beat out the other bidders at the auction. Great find that’ll really make the truck a closer replica to the one used in the movie. I also show some other cool items I’ve found by searching out on the old Interwebs. When I finally stop talking and get to work, I paint the engine the period-correct Cummins beige and then move onto finishing up the hood build and installing it on the truck single-handedly without a forklift. I’ve got to stop doing all this heavy lifting or my back’ll never forgive me
Hope you enjoy the video and thanks for all the comments, suggestions, and support!
Keep in mind, I know a little about a lot but not an expert in anything … just doing the best I can, learning as I go ... I do all my own stunts
Enjoy watching the progress of this Kenworth W900A project, the ongoing Peterbilt 359 restoration and the upcoming #IronDuke Kenworth K100 cabover I’m planning to build up like the one used in the 70’s trucking movie High Ballin’ with Jerry Reed and Peter Fonda.

Great video Mark, I remember the widowmaker rims, when I first started trucking there were lots of them still on the road. I worked for a company in Swan hills in 1977 and when he bought a truck at an auction or anywhere if it had widowmaker rims on it they would get pulled off and new rims put on and the old rims were either taken over to the shop next door and run over with a D7 or holes were cut in them and made into fire pits but the did'nt live after Ken owned them. Love the new hood pull looks great see you on the next one.

👍👌👏 Simply fantastic! Very well done again and as always (video and work). Congrats for purchasing all those movie correct parts (including the beige paint). What a great Twin Sticks community by the way. Hope you will find the type of tires you are searching for and that they are not expensive.
I already knew Indian summer but Canadian summer was kind of new to me. Heavy snowfall on May 19th feels/looks pretty weird. Especially because snow on trees with leaves is extremely rare (at least in Germany). The leaves modify themselves to a spoon shape so that they are able to carry the extra/heavy load. Nature is ingenious for sure.
As always: Thanks a lot for making teaching explaining recording editing uploading and sharing.
    Best regards, luck and health.

Consider contacting KalTire and have them recap the rear tires with the Bandag tread, it's period correct and the Bandag actually last a long time and is quite durable. If you reach out to Bridgestone directly they may be able to get you squared up for period correct steering axle tires. Mismatching profiles (heights) is a no no as per the tire industry recommendations for tire safety. Mismatching can cause excessive internal tire wall heating leading to early tire failure (roadside crocodiles) tread and casing separation. Split rims (military rims developed by the British military during the second world war to allow for easier field changing) have a collapsing center rim portion, they are outlawed across Canada. She sure is coming along nicely, fans are a real help when your in a pinch.. Stay Safe & Cheers!

I have a cousin who was a trucker for many years when I was growing up and I always enjoyed checking out the trucks he would drive, and later in his career he had a couple Riggs of his own. My favorite in particular was royal blue GMC Five Star General that he had with a Detroit in it. .
And when I was in my twenties I spent about seven years in working in shops repairing trucks .

That's fine and dandy but, I was thinking about practicality while enjoying the driving part. Do you want to constantly deal with antique wheels leaking on you and going out of balance on a regular basis leaving you stranded on the side of the freeway? Or, do you want a nice upgraded and polished out wheel that's maintenance free? And yes, I have worked in truck tire shops in the past. I do know what the hell I'm talking about.
