In my research, I talked to both Carl's Place and Par2Pro for my own enclosure. Long story short, in my personal experience, the advisor staff (phone) at P2P started strong but finished poorly. The advisor staff (phone or chat) at Carl's Place started strong and finished strong. Their patience and follow-up was top-notch. Having never tackled such a project, and admittedly, not being very handy, I did a ton of planning and prep work in my efforts not to screw it up. Everyone I worked with at Carl's was patient and walked me through many of the details. I bought my DIY enclosure and screen from CP and set it all up this past weekend. Still need to get the tech up and running but Carl's Place was outstanding to work with.
Really great video. My build is similar, but I had to build it with the capability of folding up into the ceiling of the garage. I easily spent 100 hours working on it and perfecting little tiny things and I can tell that you definitely did the same here. No one except you will notice the last 20% of fine tuning you did, but in the end it makes for a very clean and professional experience. Your video is one of the best breakdowns I've seen, awesome job!
Just stumbled across your build....really nice. I am planning on building a golf simulator in my RV garage. This helps out a lot. My ceiling is too high for a ceiling mount projector so will need a floor mount option. Cheers!
Really impressed with your setup mate! So envious that I don’t have the space or the knowledge about how to build a sweet set up like yours! Enjoy your time using it. 👌🏽
hell yeah really like the flooring you have going. that was a steal for that I went cheaper and wish i didn't. really dig the setup. I like that insert a lot. Another way I would have went if I did it again.
Nice job and video. I also have a Carl’s enclosure and premium impact screen. They’re amazing! I just bought the form inserts as I had a few bad kick backs.
@@PixelGolf 100% agree, bought and installed the foam inserts. Fixed my indoor swing issue as I was holding back out of fear of errand bounce back shots. Really impressed at the difference compared with pool noddles
Great video, I also have a radar (although TrackMan 4) and I like to hit at least 12' to screen. Have you noticed any difference from 9' from ball to screen to 12' from ball to screen? I'm trying to get a new enclosure and I was wondering if I can at least just go with 8'~9' to screen. Thanks in advance!
Hello, I hit 9’ from my screen with my current setup, but I am running a GC3 which is camera based so it doesn’t require a minimum distance away. I believe the trackman 4 needs at least 8’ from screen. I like hitting from 9’ away, but keep in mind I have a 100”h x125”w enclosure that is only 33” deep. I would say depending on your screen size you may find 9’ too close if yours is a lot larger. If you can hit from 12’ I would if you’re sticking with the radar unit as their accuracy is better the more flight time, but again based on your setup 12’ may put you back too far for wedges to stay on the enclosure.
@@PixelGolf Thanks for the quick response. Hitting shorter than 12' definitely doesn't give a lot of data so I wanted to be in that 12'~13' sweet spot distance to the screen. I have a width of 14' so slightly more space than you in terms of the width and I am worried about my side shanks as I'll have some novices hitting as well. So with yours being only 33" deep, have you not encountered hitting the side wall for your mishits (unless you're not a novice)? Thanks!
Very helpful video. I am looking to build an addition on my house, well really just frame in my deck which sits on a raised foundation already and it's about 14x15, which looks like more than enough space based on your design. Also planning to pick up the new GC3 so the distance behind the hitting area should not be an issue. Was wondering about the flooring and I think your solution is perfect and affordable. Not sure on the ceiling height, but planning for 9 feet which I think should work. I'll check out Carls too. All in all, this is about the best video of a DIY build that matches up with my space and plan. Just saw you picked up the new GC3....hope you are planning to do a video on it. That is the icing on the cake bro.
The short throw is ordered. TY. Another question is I will be able to run the mevo through my mac to the projector through the usb? Thank you for always taking the time to answer my questions.
Are you able to hit wedge shots from that far with only 3 feet of overhead cage projection? Building my setup now and I'm worried about wedge shots hitting the ceiling when I'm hitting 8-10 ft from the screen
I have the same issues with the short wedges. What i've learned is that wedges shouldn't be hit with full swings anyway. Mostly something less for more control.
This was my first thought. Not only can you not do flop shots, but you can't invite novices to play on this setup unless you are cool with holes in the wall
I know you made a follow up video so maybe you answered this there - I noticed the hitting strip is listed as 1.75" thick online, and the foam you used is 1" thick. The putting mat you linked says the pile is 5/8" thick, so do you feel like the strip sits 1/8" low or do you not notice?
I bought an impact screen from a guy locally. He got it from Carl’s but it had a small defect. They told him to keep it and they would send him another. The screen had the bottom half of the cable in it but nothing else. First I called Carl’s to sell me the rest of the DIY at home Golf Room kit (which they wouldn’t). Next I asked them to tell me what size to frame up the wall (which they also wouldn’t). I would never, ever do business with Carl’s. If they won’t help me with something small like, they’ll never help me if something legit happens. Just for reference, I needed a launch monitor, projector, putter flooring and more. I offered to buy all of it from them if they would help me but they best they would do was to offer 5% off a Custom DIY At Home Frame Kit if I would tell them what size my room was. I tried to explain to them 4 or 5 times that I was going to frame up a wall to fit my screen but they just couldn’t understand. The guys at Shop Indoor Golf have been so available and answered a ton of questions for me. I will support them to the end of the Earth. DO NOT BUY FROM CARL’S.
Hello, I'm sorry you feel that way and I understand your frustration. Let me try and break this down from their perspective as I do not work for Carl's Place... So their customer had a small defect and they sent them a brand new replacement product and even let them keep the old one that they in turn sold to you for a profit. That should be more of a reason for you to see that they value their customers as they made right for the customer that had the issue, right? I would imagine that they aren't helping because they probably aren't allowed to help on warranty claim items... This is pretty common with companies these days. I just had this happen with a warranty replacement for a mountain bike part and they made me send a pic showing that I scrapped the item and it was unusable, probably so they knew I wouldn't sell it. The other reason could be that they cant give that customers personal info that shows the dimensions required for the order, so I would reach out to the seller and see if he can provide you the dimension sheet that Carl's provides. If they tried to guess the dimensions you need for that unknown screen and sell you stuff to make it work and are wrong that would make them liable and open up a can of worms. I will say that I have personally been very happy with their customer service and their product for nearly 4 years, but I get that every case is different. Sorry you're having an issue. If you have the screen with the cable in it, you should be able to make it work and I am more than willing to help you in doing that. Send me a message on my website or give me a call and I'll help you figure out what you need to get it working.
how has the putting turf held up where your feet are? have you worn through it? do you wear spikes or just running shoes on it? thanks! awesome set up!
Great video, will be a tremendous help for me. Quick question, I was told that a PC version of the Mevo plus software does not exist yet only iphone or ipad, how did you set yours up of a PC? Thanks!
Bought one about 10 months ago based on your great videos. Question. My screen feels a little too loose at the ball impact area.(wrinkles) I do have the same foam pad behind the screen. Should I buy tighter bungees? Other recommendations? Thanks
I use all bungees around the perimeter and mine is still nice and flat. You can try tightening the bungees a little more if bounce back isn’t an issue. Are you using the premium screen?
It’s actually really damn close in numbers! I made a bunch of videos comparing and all the footage got destroyed… I’m going to redo it with the new Bushnell/Foresight “GC3” when I get it next month.
Looking at building a set up right now. I'm debating about getting the TrueStrike matting. Do you like the insert, and have you thought about changing it at all? I'd like to do something similar with the matting and carpet, but use a TrueStrike insert.
I’ve actually since switched to a homemade divot action, cost about $40. Definitely more forgiving on the wrists… Can’t take a real tee though which isn’t as fun. Looking into others right now. I also have Quattro mat to try.
Great Set-up, also like your video on controlling bounce back. Curious about the turf you used, it says it requires an infill. Did you apply an in-fill to your turf and if not have you noticed any issues, does the turf remain in place under its own weight or is it affixed in some way?
Hi great video, on explaining your set up and process , you Fido mention your total cost , or maybe I missed you saying it . Thanks for the videos and tips
I have the almost exact setup with the same projector. I need some tips on how to get the image to fit my screen like yours. Any help would be great! Keep up the great videos!
I am basically copying what you have done here. Nicely done, by the way. I apologize if you have already answered this question. I need to buy a laptop. I will only be using this golf setup for myself, my children and a few friends. My question is, what laptop would you recommend I get to use with the Mevo+? You mention in the video that the one you use is more than enough to handle what you are doing. I don’t want to buy more than I need. I’ll be using the golf monitor to help my golf swing .
Great and helpful video as I build my SIM. Would you be able to put the Pipe insulation on the front of the frame inside the black material that the pipes are in? I think it might look better in the room I am building but couldn’t tell if it would fit inside.
With the memory foam pad behind the screen are you able to move the enclosure closer to a wall? I would really like to get close as possible for my plans.
Great video. I noticed you have your projector connected to Sonos. I just purchased the same one and was wondering what connection you are using for the Sonos since it doesn’t support HDMI arc?
Great video and good looking set up, how high are you ceilings they look like 8’-6”? If so do you have issues swing driver? Also how far away from the screen is the projector and in relation to the golfer is it directly over you while your hitting? Thanks for your insights.
I have a set up very similar to yours with the puzzle gym Matt etc. I have loosened (2) bungees per side and the ball still seems to come back too quick. By that I mean that the ball will bounce and then roll back to my feet quickly when I’m hitting from 9.5 feet from screen. That’s with a 9 iron. I’m 69 and hit a 9 about 120 yds. Your thoughts?
Awesome setup! Is there a way to make sure the putting surface is completely flat with no curve/slope? What to do if there is a slight slope in the floor?? Thanks
When ordering the putting mat what particular mat did you choose so I can order the same thing? Thanks and wonderful video motivational for sure to start my simulator in my garage since I can only swing 7iron and below good enough for the winter to swing and now lose my feel. I swing outdoors during the spring summer and early fall months
Hey, great great rundown! Can I ask a couple of things about the room size, please? How high is the ceiling at the location you swing from, please? Also, with your turf, does your swing arc behind and around you swing our beyond the boundaries of the turf? In other words, if the *room* was as wide as the mat, would you have plenty of room? Thanks so much, dropped you a sub, too!
Starting my build now.. wondering how far back your projector is mounted? Want to make sure I have and outlet installed up there and run HDMI cable there as well. Thanks
Having trouble finding outdoor putting turf that lays naturally flat as yours does. Can you tell if yours has a specific manufacturer? Others I am seeing are rolled up and will require being glued or nailed down. Nice video.
Hey I really like the set up you have... I have a questions about the Carls Place set up part. I am looking to order one but I am curious if you have to put padding behind where the ball will impact or if you can just have it pushed right up to the wall and the projection screen just takes all the impact and you dont have to worry about ball marks on the wall? Can you help out or elaborate if you have to put anything behind the screen and against the wall. Thank you!
I appreciate your review. I made a purchase for a setup from Carls and am waiting to receive it. My question is how do I set up the Mevo+ with the computer? Does the Mevo+ come with software to install?
The Mevo+ is really just iPhone only apps free with the Mevo purchase. If you want PC I would suggest, E6 connect, TGC2019 or wait for GS Pro to come to Mevo, which is soon I here. You can request a free Demo if E6 connect for your Mevo+ to demo E6. It has 1 course, a range and a few practice areas that will keep you entertained while you decide!
Do you have a less pricey gaming laptop or pc that you could recommend? I recently found out that the mevo plus e6 complimentary courses are not compatible with my MacBook. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Great video, thanks man! Just got my Mevo+ and looking at the Carl's stuff myself. Curious as to what your distance is with the Mevo, both Mevo to ball and ball to screen? Apologies if you mentioned it... which screen did you get, the premium?
Carls provides all the connectors, elbows, instructions and everything you need to build through them. They have an option of supplying the emt as well, but it was more cost effective factoring in shipping to get them locally. It’s really simple. They send you a breakdown of your build with all of the pipe lengths before you get the kit so you can grab the emt while the kit is shipping and get it all put up in an hour.
Hey man. This is a beautiful build. I just ordered my birdie cups today- did you say you used the birdie ball hole cutter? Did that cut right through the turf and mat?
Hello, yes. I used the birdieball cutting tool and it cut through the turf and mat with some effort. It is the older metal one though, I think they’re plastic now.
Yes, the GT1080HDR is good as well, short throw for sure! The 1090 offers some cool features and no bulb replacement, but I’d save your money and get the more than capable 1080 and wait for 4k short throws to hopefully be affordable in the coming years.
@@troystein2675 I believe it is a short throw, could be wrong though… make sure it is the GT1080HDR you get, there has been a lot of other PNs claiming they are the GT1080HDR, but they’re a different model.
I believe so. Check my video for the carls diy tool and click on the link in the description. There you can enter your ceiling height and see what options you have.
I did one in my basement with pretty much the same ceiling height. Unfortunately it was not high enough even with wedges. You need at least 9ft to be comfortable in my opinion.
Are you completely happy with the gym tiles you linked? I just noticed some reviews on amazon say they slip easy, so just wanted to see your experience. I currently have 3/4 inch tiles but i bought the holy grail strip which says youll need 1 inch tiles under your turf so it matches up. think the height difference is enough to get all new tiles that are 1 inch instead of 3/4?
Yes, I’m completely happy. Due to the size of my turf it doesn’t really move. If it’s in the budget, go for 1”. 3/4” isn’t thick enough for most inserts and the reason no one makes inserts that thin is due to the amount of downward travel from the swing arc.
I used a heavy duty retractable utility knife, the one with the blades that snap off to reveal a fresh blade. I used a large piece of wood underneath and a 4’ level on my line I drew out and follow the edge with the blade to cut. You can see me use that blade to cut the same turf in my hitting insert video on the channel.
Flightscope recommends 8’ from ball, I have run mine 7’ from ball and didn’t notice much of a difference. I believe a lot of people run it from 7 back.
It seems that all of the Carl’s enclosures online are 5 ft deep, but yours looks maybe 3ft? Do you know if they changed the depths or is your less depth an option? Thanks!
Great video, I've watched it a couple of times now. I do have one question not related to the setup but a message I saw on the screen while you were going over Carl's enclosure and screen. The message was "Flight Scope Device not Found", it was blinking on and off. I just purchased and started using a mevo+ and I am getting the same message when connected to the E6 app. It looks like the connection from the the mevo FS 2.0 PC software to the E6 package keeps dropping and reconnecting. Do you still get this message or were you able to find out what the cause and solution to fix this message was?
I just purchased the same screen from Carls. Do you think using the 1 inch pipe insulation would work on all the pipes, instead of the other stuff from Carls? Also, the screen just mirroring your PC. Not setup as a second screen?
How far from your screen is your projector? And how far in front of the hitting area is the projector? I have a short throw and I'm thinking about 10 feet from screen to hitting area and 8 feet from screen to projector.
Hey Jack, actual screen size the image projects on is 89x117” I’m more than happy with it, especially the durability and quality of the screen. I can’t believe how well it’s aging! However, if I had the space for it I would love to go with a wide screen.
Trace the insert on to the turf and cut out the shape. The trace to new cutout onto the mat and cut that as straight as possible. You can take out the puzzle mat and cut on a bench top since it’s removable and marked. Tip: have a tight fit from the back and a little room on the sides so it doesn’t affect the insert returning back to normal.

Looks amazing!!!! Im building one at the moment do you have a link for the green mat?
Hi great video, on explaining your set up and process , you Fido mention your total cost , or maybe I missed you saying it . Thanks for the videos and tips
$5800 with Mevo+
No I tried that and there wasn’t enough material.
With the memory foam pad behind the screen are you able to move the enclosure closer to a wall? I would really like to get close as possible for my plans.
Check the 1 year update video for that info and links in description
For your putting turf, did you put infill?
If not, how does it roll when putting? Setup looks awesome!
No infill and it rolls nicely!
Nicely done.
Thanks!
Great video. I noticed you have your projector connected to Sonos. I just purchased the same one and was wondering what connection you are using for the Sonos since it doesn’t support HDMI arc?
Cool, very nice 👍🏻
Looks great🎉🎉🎉
Great video and good looking set up, how high are you ceilings they look like 8’-6”? If so do you have issues swing driver? Also how far away from the screen is the projector and in relation to the golfer is it directly over you while your hitting? Thanks for your insights.
Video uploading for all those details!
Hey did you ever get a chance to look into my questions? Thanks again
@@andrewferiozzi945 Hello Andrew above the hitting area is about 9.5’, no issues hitting driver.
Sorry I missed this I one! Try removing a few from the bottom as the sand bar should keep tension regardless and limit kick back.
Do you have any safety netting or other style backing immediately behind the polyester screen?? Or is it enough by itself with it's 250 mph rating ??
I can’t get those speeds, but I would do the mattress pad mod.
As you golf more with your mevo+
What is your recommendation for distances for ball to screen , mevo to ball.
9.5’ ball to screen and 8’ ball to Mevo+. Sorry for the delay!
Awesome setup! Is there a way to make sure the putting surface is completely flat with no curve/slope? What to do if there is a slight slope in the floor??
Thanks
Our flooring is pretty level, so that is not something I’ve personally had to address.
hi , could you please tell me that you use the PLASTIC or METAL cutting tool?
Thank you!
For which part?
When ordering the putting mat what particular mat did you choose so I can order the same thing? Thanks and wonderful video motivational for sure to start my simulator in my garage since I can only swing 7iron and below good enough for the winter to swing and now lose my feel. I swing outdoors during the spring summer and early fall months
Great video! I love the set up and all of the great information! How did you cut the putting turf for the mat insert?
Adjustable box cutter. The kind with the king blade that snaps off sections.
@@PixelGolf Thanks! Did you have to cut the gym tiles as well for the insert?
I have a similar setup. I really like your lighting around the sides of the enclosure. Can you provide a link to that product?
Hello, there is currently a link in the description. Click on the one that says led lights.
I like the way you can tee-up
So obviously you are projecting in 4:3… how are you filling the screen full? Thank you 🙏🏼
Are you still using the same hitting insert? If not, can you update us, please?
I switched it out, I’ll do an update.
@@PixelGolf What is the new insert? Thanks.
Starting my build now.. wondering how far back your projector is mounted? Want to make sure I have and outlet installed up there and run HDMI cable there as well. Thanks
Really nice video. Thanks.
We’re did you get the off brand hitting insert
Check my channel, I teach you how to make one. Also, please subscribe!
Hi, great video! super helpful with my own planned sim set up. perhaps I missed it, but do you have a link for your hardcase for your memo plus?
It comes with the Mevo+
Having trouble finding outdoor putting turf that lays naturally flat as yours does. Can you tell if yours has a specific manufacturer? Others I am seeing are rolled up and will require being glued or nailed down. Nice video.

@@PixelGolf Found it......thx. Sorry I missed it in my initial review.
Thank you!
How does the impact feel with that mat /turf combo. Curious about wrist pain off that mat
I am currently running a DIY divot action that has a lot of give to it on the downswing. No wrist pain here.
@@PixelGolf is the DIY divot setup the one you show in this video? If not, do you have a video of the DIY?
@@harmon411 it is not. I’ll get an update video up!
is the hitting pad in this video the Bltend Golf Mat from amazon
Check Best Buy open box deals. Anything with 16gb ram, i7 and Nvidia card in the last few years should work!
I wanted to check in to see if you ever got the 24/7 enclosure setup, and how you think that compares to this one.
@@PixelGolf Thank you!! I'm going to order my Carl's setup tomorrow!
@@varunsoni335 You won’t regret it! If you can use my link in the description to order, it helps the channel!
Great video, thanks man! Just got my Mevo+ and looking at the Carl's stuff myself. Curious as to what your distance is with the Mevo, both Mevo to ball and ball to screen? Apologies if you mentioned it... which screen did you get, the premium?
8’ Mevo to ball, 9.5’ ball to screen. Premium screen.
Marty: Did the Mevo+ ship right away or was there any wait time? Thanks.
@@dustindavidson849, shipped within just a couple of days, I had it in about a week.
Can you explain why you had to get the 1" EMT piping, where is that installed? Didn't Carl build-out the SIm frame for you?
Carls provides all the connectors, elbows, instructions and everything you need to build through them. They have an option of supplying the emt as well, but it was more cost effective factoring in shipping to get them locally. It’s really simple. They send you a breakdown of your build with all of the pipe lengths before you get the kit so you can grab the emt while the kit is shipping and get it all put up in an hour.
Hey bro do you have a video on how you did the floor ?
It’s fairly straight forward, there is a full breakdown video that goes over the rough idea.
What a nice video! Very informative and detailed. Planning on building one too. How far is the projector from the screen?
7.5 feet. Check breakdown video for all dimensions.
Good stuff. Thanks. I’m gonna use Carls. How high is your ceiling?
Glad to hear! My ceiling slopes but it's about 9 feet over my hitting area.
Good morning, are you satisfied with the Optoma GT1080 projector that you referenced in this video? Do you have the short throw or the regular one?
Yes, the GT1080HDR is good as well, short throw for sure! The 1090 offers some cool features and no bulb replacement, but I’d save your money and get the more than capable 1080 and wait for 4k short throws to hopefully be affordable in the coming years.
@@PixelGolf Thank you. When I order it is it actually called the GT1080HDR Short Throw? Or is it automatically a short throw?
@@troystein2675 I believe it is a short throw, could be wrong though… make sure it is the GT1080HDR you get, there has been a lot of other PNs claiming they are the GT1080HDR, but they’re a different model.

Would i be able to do a simulator with 7'8 ceilings ?
I believe so. Check my video for the carls diy tool and click on the link in the description. There you can enter your ceiling height and see what options you have.
I did one in my basement with pretty much the same ceiling height.
Unfortunately it was not high enough even with wedges. You need at least 9ft to be comfortable in my opinion.
Also, if my ceiling is 11 foot high and my screen is 9 foot high, do I need a 2 foot extension for the projector mount?
What was your method and tools to get a straight cut when trimming the putting turf?
I used a heavy duty retractable utility knife, the one with the blades that snap off to reveal a fresh blade. I used a large piece of wood underneath and a 4’ level on my line I drew out and follow the edge with the blade to cut. You can see me use that blade to cut the same turf in my hitting insert video on the channel.
@@PixelGolf thanks for the quick reply!
Love your simulator. I was trying to find video of moving the flight scope up to 7 ft from 8ft. Did you have any issues with this?
What is your favorite hitting insert currently? I’ve thought about the Carla upgraded one vs the holy grail. Any suggestions?
I’ve had both, they are very similar… Go for Carls as it’s cheaper. Links to it are down below.
Does the hitting mat insert need to be small to keep it from moving?
No, just make a snug fit or use 3M tape
@@PixelGolf Do you have a size you would recommend if I am going to have both right and left handed golfers?
@@troystein2675 12x30 should be fine
what is the actaul screen size.and are you happy with it. thanks jack
Hey Jack, actual screen size the image projects on is 89x117” I’m more than happy with it, especially the durability and quality of the screen. I can’t believe how well it’s aging! However, if I had the space for it I would love to go with a wide screen.
How did you measure and cut out the mat for the insert? Thanks
Where is the Mevo+ leveling and alignment stand from? I didn't see a link above. Trying to find a good quality one. Thanks!
Check Carls Place, they have one that is $50 and looks really solid!
