Are you able to hit wedge shots from that far with only 3 feet of overhead cage projection? Building my setup now and I'm worried about wedge shots hitting the ceiling when I'm hitting 8-10 ft from the screen
I have the same issues with the short wedges. What i've learned is that wedges shouldn't be hit with full swings anyway. Mostly something less for more control.
This was my first thought. Not only can you not do flop shots, but you can't invite novices to play on this setup unless you are cool with holes in the wall
Great video, I also have a radar (although TrackMan 4) and I like to hit at least 12' to screen. Have you noticed any difference from 9' from ball to screen to 12' from ball to screen? I'm trying to get a new enclosure and I was wondering if I can at least just go with 8'~9' to screen. Thanks in advance!
Hello, I hit 9’ from my screen with my current setup, but I am running a GC3 which is camera based so it doesn’t require a minimum distance away. I believe the trackman 4 needs at least 8’ from screen. I like hitting from 9’ away, but keep in mind I have a 100”h x125”w enclosure that is only 33” deep. I would say depending on your screen size you may find 9’ too close if yours is a lot larger. If you can hit from 12’ I would if you’re sticking with the radar unit as their accuracy is better the more flight time, but again based on your setup 12’ may put you back too far for wedges to stay on the enclosure.
@@PixelGolf Thanks for the quick response. Hitting shorter than 12' definitely doesn't give a lot of data so I wanted to be in that 12'~13' sweet spot distance to the screen. I have a width of 14' so slightly more space than you in terms of the width and I am worried about my side shanks as I'll have some novices hitting as well. So with yours being only 33" deep, have you not encountered hitting the side wall for your mishits (unless you're not a novice)? Thanks!
With the memory foam pad behind the screen are you able to move the enclosure closer to a wall? I would really like to get close as possible for my plans.
Bought one about 10 months ago based on your great videos. Question. My screen feels a little too loose at the ball impact area.(wrinkles) I do have the same foam pad behind the screen. Should I buy tighter bungees? Other recommendations? Thanks
I use all bungees around the perimeter and mine is still nice and flat. You can try tightening the bungees a little more if bounce back isn’t an issue. Are you using the premium screen?
I believe so. Check my video for the carls diy tool and click on the link in the description. There you can enter your ceiling height and see what options you have.
I did one in my basement with pretty much the same ceiling height. Unfortunately it was not high enough even with wedges. You need at least 9ft to be comfortable in my opinion.
Trace the insert on to the turf and cut out the shape. The trace to new cutout onto the mat and cut that as straight as possible. You can take out the puzzle mat and cut on a bench top since it’s removable and marked. Tip: have a tight fit from the back and a little room on the sides so it doesn’t affect the insert returning back to normal.

I used a heavy duty retractable utility knife, the one with the blades that snap off to reveal a fresh blade. I used a large piece of wood underneath and a 4’ level on my line I drew out and follow the edge with the blade to cut. You can see me use that blade to cut the same turf in my hitting insert video on the channel.
How far from your screen is your projector? And how far in front of the hitting area is the projector? I have a short throw and I'm thinking about 10 feet from screen to hitting area and 8 feet from screen to projector.

They have an option of supplying the emt as well, but it was more cost effective factoring in shipping to get them locally. It’s really simple. They send you a breakdown of your build with all of the pipe lengths before you get the kit so you can grab the emt while the kit is shipping and get it all put up in an hour.
Hey Jack, actual screen size the image projects on is 89x117” I’m more than happy with it, especially the durability and quality of the screen. I can’t believe how well it’s aging! However, if I had the space for it I would love to go with a wide screen.

Very helpful video. I am looking to build an addition on my house, well really just frame in my deck which sits on a raised foundation already and it's about 14x15, which looks like more than enough space based on your design. Also planning to pick up the new GC3 so the distance behind the hitting area should not be an issue. Was wondering about the flooring and I think your solution is perfect and affordable. Not sure on the ceiling height, but planning for 9 feet which I think should work. I'll check out Carls too. All in all, this is about the best video of a DIY build that matches up with my space and plan. Just saw you picked up the new GC3....hope you are planning to do a video on it. That is the icing on the cake bro.
I know you made a follow up video so maybe you answered this there - I noticed the hitting strip is listed as 1.75" thick online, and the foam you used is 1" thick. The putting mat you linked says the pile is 5/8" thick, so do you feel like the strip sits 1/8" low or do you not notice?

I have a set up very similar to yours with the puzzle gym Matt etc. I have loosened (2) bungees per side and the ball still seems to come back too quick. By that I mean that the ball will bounce and then roll back to my feet quickly when I’m hitting from 9.5 feet from screen. That’s with a 9 iron. I’m 69 and hit a 9 about 120 yds. Your thoughts?

If you want enough room for left and right handed players to swing right in the center, at least 14’ wide. You can hit as close as 8’ from the screen I would say.

Great video, I've watched it a couple of times now. I do have one question not related to the setup but a message I saw on the screen while you were going over Carl's enclosure and screen. The message was "Flight Scope Device not Found", it was blinking on and off. I just purchased and started using a mevo+ and I am getting the same message when connected to the E6 app. It looks like the connection from the the mevo FS 2.0 PC software to the E6 package keeps dropping and reconnecting. Do you still get this message or were you able to find out what the cause and solution to fix this message was?

I paid around 5500 usd with everything pictured using Mevo+
Great and helpful video as I build my SIM. Would you be able to put the Pipe insulation on the front of the frame inside the black material that the pipes are in? I think it might look better in the room I am building but couldn’t tell if it would fit inside.
No I tried that and there wasn’t enough material.
Hi great video, on explaining your set up and process , you Fido mention your total cost , or maybe I missed you saying it . Thanks for the videos and tips
$5800 with Mevo+
Great setup! Just curious how loud that impact screen is when you actually hit a ball to it.
Will do a video using it soon! Not loud at all!
Where did u get the "plexiglass" ? And how this is it?
Lexan, see my new video for how to make a hitting insert.
Awesome setup! Is there a way to make sure the putting surface is completely flat with no curve/slope? What to do if there is a slight slope in the floor??
Thanks
Our flooring is pretty level, so that is not something I’ve personally had to address.
I have the almost exact setup with the same projector. I need some tips on how to get the image to fit my screen like yours. Any help would be great! Keep up the great videos!
Did you add anything behind the carls screen for added safety? I have windows behind my screen and fighting daylight and thoughts of breaking windows! Thanks!
I have a window behind my screen as well, but have a 12” buffer zone and it doesn’t hit.
@@PixelGolf thank you! Appreciate it!
Did you buy the 1/2" or 1" putting cups?
1”
When ordering the putting mat what particular mat did you choose so I can order the same thing? Thanks and wonderful video motivational for sure to start my simulator in my garage since I can only swing 7iron and below good enough for the winter to swing and now lose my feel. I swing outdoors during the spring summer and early fall months
What is your favorite hitting insert currently? I’ve thought about the Carla upgraded one vs the holy grail. Any suggestions?
I’ve had both, they are very similar… Go for Carls as it’s cheaper. Links to it are down below.
which screen is better the carls or 24/7 ?
Carls, hands down. I sold the 24/7, it was not for me.
Ok 👍
Great video! I love the set up and all of the great information! How did you cut the putting turf for the mat insert?
Adjustable box cutter. The kind with the king blade that snaps off sections.
@@PixelGolf Thanks! Did you have to cut the gym tiles as well for the insert?
Hi, great video! super helpful with my own planned sim set up. perhaps I missed it, but do you have a link for your hardcase for your memo plus?
It comes with the Mevo+
Great video, I've watched it a couple of times now. I do have one question not related to the setup but a message I saw on the screen while you were going over Carl's enclosure and screen. The message was "Flight Scope Device not Found", it was blinking on and off. I just purchased and started using a mevo+ and I am getting the same message when connected to the E6 app. It looks like the connection from the the mevo FS 2.0 PC software to the E6 package keeps dropping and reconnecting. Do you still get this message or were you able to find out what the cause and solution to fix this message was?
