    I just noticed that I've made a error in the video.
    At 1:19 are the specs of the M8C, but the specs are from the M8F.
    I forgot to copy M8C specs. So check the info in the description for the correct specs. ;)

      We got to experience that at the BRIC (Brian Redman International Classic … may have been the Kohler International Classic by that point) at Road America one year. All of us pit crews went and stood just inside the wall at the start. I would love to tell you that the ground shook like a water bed, it didn’t, but it was still impressive.

    There was a time when big block muscle car engines went closed course road racing - a glorious time for the ears of enthusiasts as these beasts were heroically tossed around from turn to turn. Beautiful, never will happen again

    In I believe 1990, I helped a friend, Jim Fiske of Fiske wheels, put a M8E together for the Seattle historic race. The engine was gone through by Dudder Machine Inc in Bellevue.
    The dyno sheet read 794 HP and 798 Tourqe at 6800 rpm. It is a 494 cid Rynolds block and heads, dry sump and I believe Lucas fuel injection with a compression ratio of 14:1. The different length intake trumpets were used to make the intake runner a specific length for pulse tuning. The big block Chevy has unequal length intake ports.
    The car was sold to Bruce Mcaw of Cellular One for $300k plus a Ferarri Testarossa valued at $200k. That's about 1,180,000 in todays money 2023

      @Elias Benjamin Uribe Parra - They made an attempt to revive it after the original series was stopped, but it just wasn't the same raw level of unrestricted cars, so it was destined to failure too.

      wow, I didn't know that, I imagine it could have been a good series, although cars as pure as those in Group 7 are always missed, although I suppose that the track rules in general right now They are stricter and maybe that's why they couldn't make such powerful cars, I think, it's too bad that such a great series ended

      @@eliasbenjaminuribeparra9966 Can Am car designer and constructor, Jim Hall built many innovations into his cars like brake activated rear wing, and the Chaparall exclusive, the famous "sucker Car." It had side skirts and an auxiliary 45hp Kohler engine that drew any air under the car out through a couple of, I believe, fans designed to cool military tanks. My point is the original Can Am basically had no rules other than an engine/or engines, and 4 wheels. No weight limit, no power limit. These were the fastest road racing vehicles in the world at the time - would absolutely destroy any F1 car at the time, which was the second fastest. The fact that there were no rules to speak of, the series encouraged creativity in the builders. Jim Hall responded to that in every car he built. The trouble was, every time he created a winner, the organization would prevent him from continuing to use it. Jim quit Can Am racing after that.

      Yes, I have always thought that Chaparral has been a very innovative brand, even today it is difficult to see a car with a fan for the ground effect, only the Gordon Murray T50

      @@Loulovesspeed What you say is true, but also consider that some of Jim's features on those cars just weren't safe for the other competitors. The sucker car is a great example. Terrific idea, really gave a lot of down force. But do you want to be the driver behind a 45 horse power vacuum blowing everything on the course in your face at eye level? Hall had a really stream lined car with a low enclose cabin. Trouble is, the driver could hardly see out of it. So as the other driver, do you really want to race against a car with a blind driver? But it didn't help that McLaren had it down pat on how to keep winning in CanAm taking home the majority of the prize money. And once the deep pocket Porsche team showed up, who wants to race for third place every race? No balance in the fields is what ultimately killed Can AM.

    Here I am Again. I think this McLaren M8F is my New Dream Car, It's looks So Cool and Its absolutely Gorgeous. I Like that Fun Open Cockpit, No Windshield Experience. The Track Sounds Really Fun, But i Can Just imagine Driving this thing on the Street and or Highway and or Some Twisty Curvy Forrest or Rural Backroad a Warm Summer Evening into the Sunset

      My Favourite is probably the Porsche 908-3 for the Shape and Sound of the Flat 8 buy any of these Can-Am Spyder are Truly Beautiful Car's.

    Saw the JCB one racing at Brands Hatch back in July. It was the first car I saw after being allowed back to the track post-lockdown. Not a bad car to start with :)

    My favorite era, I saw them all back then, incl, 1972-3 917-10/30 Penske Porsches Most powerful race cars in history. Mark Donohue/George Follmer!
    Performance: With the boost turned up, the 917/30 could achieve over 1,500 bhp. Imagine the adrenaline rush of driving a sports racing car with that kind of power!
    Weight: Despite its monstrous performance, the 917/30 weighed just 1,765 lbs. at the curb, making it a featherweight contender.

    I was at Mid Ohio in the 70s for the Can AM series. The ground shook at the drop of the green flag. I was at the opposite side of the circuit.

    I saw a grid of these race at Donington Park, think it was an Aston Martin Owners Club day, probably 20 years ago. It was cold, damp and miserable. As soon as they got near the throttle coming out of old hairpin they either lit up the rears or just span, epic. Saw them in the paddock with tennis balls stuck in the intake trumpets to stop the rain getting in 😀

    Laguna Seca 1977. There was I believe 2 of them running in the race that weekend. Rolling thunder for sure.

    Stopping at 3:51 I think it's as perfect a picture of an M8 as you'd ever find. Certainly of an M8F anyway. They talk about form over function or function over form as far as the appearance of machines. When I look at this I don't see any compromise. It is just spectacular to my eyes. I don't think a racing car could look more perfect or more beautiful.

    I couldn't imagine being a driver in one of these cars. Not only are they just stupid fast but there's absolutely no assist anywhere to be had. You had to be really easy on the throttle with these big banger v8's.

    There is even even examples that are 8.8L but also 880 HP according to a Goodwood video with onboard video footage when racing around a track.

    The best looking and sounding race cars ever followed by the Lola T332 F5000 race car. Just brute force and now 45-50 years old and still turning heads when lit up in anger.

    All of these cars had a history as they were produced in such small numbers. It would be interesting to know who were the earlier drivers of them.

      @@NorbCat - but they didn't race all of the cars. They sold many, like these two likely, to others who raced. That is who I'd like to know who they were.

      @@tommissouri4871 Mclaren and Hulme were the drivers of the works cars. Peter Revson drove with Hulme in the 1971 series and won the championship. Also drove with Hulme in the Mclsren F1 team. The customer M8 cars were built by Trojan. Some of the non works drivers were Teddy Pillette, Frenchman Francois Cevert Vic Elford Roy woods. Thought I'd remember more than that but I'm sure the info is available around the net.

    Where are the McLaren M20s from 1972?
    Are there any in private hands? Given that they ran in the last year of McLaren racing in the Can-Am, there may have been only 2-3 even built.

      It's not even clear the Porsche 917 was the fastest car by 1974, the Shadow DN4A winning 4 of 6 races before Can Am collapsed that season.

      @@xxxYYZxxx - The 917-30 's last race was in '74. If it ran against the Shadow DN4A it would have toasted it. The Shadow put out a stout 800HP but compared to the 917-30's 1,100 - 1,500 HP - no contest!

      @@xxxYYZxxx Fuel regulations applied only to the amount of fuel allowed. Yes, that obviously eliminated the 917-30 as its massive twin turbo flat 12 was significantly more thirsty than a Chevy big block V8. Where do you come up with "roughly equal power" when the 917 produced 1,100-1,500HP while the comparatively small Chevy V8 was no more than 750-800 HP max?? Power did not change, only the miles between pit stops. NO WAY the Shadow was even close to being faster than the 917. You realize that Donohue set the closed course speed record at Talladega in a 917-30 @ 221MPH, a record that stood for 11 years! That was an average speed - top speed on the straights was over 240MPH!

      ​@@Loulovesspeed AFAIK, fuel delivery was reduced, not the size of the fuel tank, reducing the power on the 917. Besides raw straight line power, there was nothing else particularly impressive about the 917, it just had and extra 300-700 HP vs the competition. The Shadow, on the other hand, was the last gen. and most refined of the CAN AM vehicles.

      @@michaelmorahan57 Yes, that is correct, and I would guess they appreciate the "barbaric" American v-8s. That race track appears to be in Belgium, which is nowhere near New Zealnd.
