- The exercise you must avoid for double bass drumming
Many drummers isolate each of their feet. They do this to build endurance.
But, on double bass, their playing sounds uneven. It lacks accuracy.
When you try to use your hands, the gap becomes even clearer.
It's like forcing two rhythms together. This results in a disjointed sound.
The issue is a lack of timing. It is between the feet and hands.
You must develop a unified rhythm. It should use all limbs.
That snare with the phone audio or whatever. 😂
After doing this for a few days I already feel myself getting comfortable with double bass. If you want to get better at double bass do this exercise!!! Thank you for this amazing lesson🙂
Thanks for your time for this very important lesson 😊
Thank You very much .
Great videos I played single bass drum most of my life- took 20 years off starting back up now and want to learn double bass.
Single bass drum for most of your life, now it's time to double up the fun with double bass!
Aight! Will do that man.
Very useful thanks!
Glad it was helpful!
Word....I'll start doin it! I wanna be better!!
this is why i have a big respect for drummers, they have an Unbelievable motor skills Beside from being the foundation (mostly, because sometimes it's the bass) of the music❤
We agree!
Very useful tip especially for a beginner like me. I also have a question. When using the heel up technique if you aren't burying the beater I feel like I get false hits. Should I just bury the beater or is it happening because I'm a beginner. Apreciate the content.
Because you're a beginner. Burying the beater is fine btw, if it sounds right, but you should be able to not bury the beater and not get extra hits.
It just takes time.
Cool
Do you know a Good double bass pedal for under 400, specifically Tama
Awesome I will try this thanks dude
Have fun
I can't seem to remove my foot from the toe stop on my pedal 😂
This bass drum sounds fuckin good
Thanks!
in my experience this happens only when we first attempt using the ankles, and it's due to lack of coordination derived from lack of balance bc we're not used to have our legs/feet floating over the pedals. it's all about where our attention is focused. once we realize we're failing because we can't control our upper legs' muscles it all resolves by itself. my point is it's not about practicing this or that pattern, but being aware of what's happening between our waist and the knees :) Derek Roddy talks about this in one of his instructional videos. very on point.
That's some solid advice! Gotta keep an eye on what's happening between the waist and knees for smoother drumming. Thanks for the tip!
@@CameronFleury absolutely, man. controlling those muscles is so important yet so often neglected in double bass drumming education... and I think it's the main reason why nearly everyone goes through that nightmare period when no pedal settings and stool height combination seems to work. so painful 😵😄
If only my bass drum was filled with popcorn!
Breaking up a paradiddle between 1) right hand/right foot 2) left hand left foot 3) right hand / both feet 4) left hand / both feet, orchestrate around the set, thank me later PS you can also break up the paradiddle in different ways too
That's a great exercise for coordination and independence on the drum set!
I have always had a problem I never hear anyone else talk about.. I have tried adjusting to try all tensions on the springs, different beaters, and swapped drive shafts, but I always have the problem of the beaters smashing the top of my foot when playing at full volume.
What pedals are you using? Sounds to me like your feet / legs are coming up too high.
@@CameronFleury at the moment I am using dw5000s, which seem to do it the worst. In the past I have used Mapex armory and dw9000s, and it was always a problem. Maybe it's my throne height/positioning? Other drummers have told me my kit feels really high and spread out. Idk.
@@PirateR4ptortry sitting at 90⁰. your feet should always be almost flat over the boards, minimum angle possible.
...ughh.. I can't even do this simple beat/ excercise..might be time to just give up.
This is a great exercise. For me, I had to first learn each foot, practice doubles until I could do it mindlessly/text people and use my phone while practicing to a metronome, and only then did I start introducing a basic drum beat. Just takes time and a lotttttt of practice
Dunno bro your bass sounds weird, it's like too stiff no hollowness no deep bass? Why is this?
Slightly slow "Hey man, nice shot"?
Solid
Thank you!
