  • On his show Coffee With Cal, Kentucky head coach John Calipari and Charles Barkley shared some of their favorite Michael Jordan stories. Barkley told the story of the first time he played with Jordan on the Dream Team, how MJ's relentless competitive spirit led him to torment a Puerto Rican point guard in international play, and how he compares LeBron and Jordan across eras.

Listen to the stories that legendary players and coaches have about him, they all say the same thing, they are all afraid of him wouldn't even engage him cause they were afraid he would go off and shut them down or score 50 and win the game. Nobody tells these stories about Lebron, not one of Lebron's peers talk about him like this. They say he's a great player but they aren't afraid to see him in a finals cause they know he's beatable! They aren't afraid of making fun of him or taunting him...its just different! All you need to know is how the people who played against them view them. • @AlexanderMoen

    I like Barkley's all-time list. I've got them ranked similarly, it just depends on what secondary characteristics you want to use to rank people. Wilt for instance was a fast and strong beast that could even fill non-scoring roles (led the league in assists once as a center when he was asked to pass more, which is ridiculous), but his lower amount of rings and leadership make it tough to make him #1 (but maybe #2 even). Bill Russell had 11 rings which is super hard to argue with rings-wise and might be enough to put him over Wilt, but the league and basketball just wasn't at the same level and it was more that the team was stacked than Russell being head and shoulders above the rest. I still rank Kobe over LeBron as well. I think we have to wait until Lebron retires so we can see his full body of work, but I would guess he's more like an athletically gifted person who will end up with some rings (like Wilt) but I think LeBron is somewhat poisonous to his team and organizations in the long run, so that'll keep him from the top, in my opinion. I would need to see his teammates start out crappy and end up great (rather than him trading to already great teams and having great teammates whose stats drop once Lebron joins), or at least go from decent to near all-star, to have him even be in the GOAT conversation, and I think it's too late in his career to expect to see that and attribute it just to him and not also Davis or something else.

    • @MikeDindu
      @MikeDindu 4 года назад +3

      He took the 07 Cavs to the finals against the Spurs. A Cavs team that literally had zero business being there in the first place. Their second best player was maybe Varejao, the rest were a forgettable cast honestly.
      In 2015 he led the Cavs to the finals, and Kevin Love was out for the series and Kyrie only played one game. Not only that but he was playing against one of the best teams ever, and singlehandedly made a contest of it. Seriously, those Cavs should have been swept. He managed to lead both teams in points, assists, and rebounds, first player ever to do that in a finals. In other it wasn't the Cavs vs Warriors, it was Lebron vs the Warriors.
      So he has taken crappy teams much farther than they should have gone, and only got stopped by dynasties.
      I'm not saying he's the best, but there's no question he belongs in the discussion.

      I do not agree with Coach, the only reason people say this is because they don't want players they think are great & who are great to be criticized & compated and that is a very WEAK statement but I get why a Calipari will say that. He a position where he has to save face because he is a coach & recognizable figure. But in truth, it is great to look at every factor because they are indicators that tell you who is better than who and who isn't as good as advertised and....who was better than people thought. Comparing eras is a great thing to do..
      The problem is when someone says:
      "LeBron can't come close to MJ as GOAT, people hear:
      "oh LeBron is a great player"
      in truth is a great player but he can still be a great player AND not come close to MJ

But to say Bron isn’t on Kobe’s level with more MVPs, finals MVPs, points, assists, rebounds, blocks and steals in fewer games... something isn’t adding up. Oh, and a better head to head record against Kobe too. They’re certainly on the same level.

    Lebron was the size of Ric Mahorn with the speed of Jordan. Why would he be afraid of the Bad Boy Pistons? I think we need to be a bit more honest with ourselves..

      Rick Mahorn is 6'10, last time i checked, Lebron is not. Check your facts.
      And why would he be afraid of the bad boys? Dude, you should see how the game was played back then, the pistons were ruthless, Lebron plays in an era that doesn't have anything remotely close to that phisicality.

      Dre Newman quickness is more important in basketball than speed especially MJ era because the court isn’t always open and Lebron is not faster than Jordan he takes too long to speed up. MJ isn’t even running his hardest Lebron is.

    • @kristion9774
      @kristion9774 4 года назад +2

      Dre Newman What Bron do 2008 vs Celtics? 35% FG and 2007 vs Spurs? 35% FG! They couldn’t hand check Bron, defensive 3 seconds opened up the paint for Bron, they couldn’t flagrant foul Bron and get away with it, and his teammates could make more 3 pointers than Jordan’s teammates! Show Jordan’s 35% FG vs Pistons or anyone for an entire series! MJ made playoffs age 22 vs Sidney Moncrief 2x DPOY Bucks #2 defense won 59 games in 23 team nba 82 games Paul Pressey is also 1st team defense 1985 when Mj is 22! So no age excuses MJ a rookie at 22 Bron a 4 year rich pro can hire anyone to teach him anytime anywhere!

He would have destroyed the Pistons. It's laughable, it's not even a discussion really. You can't compare eras it's just not fair to those guys in the 80s.

What’s so great about basketball is that it’s still ongoing that players who are currently active can affect those lists in the future. I love this game lol

    CAn't believe Chuck finally put Kobe ahead of Bron. Another note on Jordan: much of what he did with his style of play was spontaneous and athletically he did things we as viewers had not witnessed before. Such as reverse layups constantly, hanging in the air for long periods before shooting, his way of shooting his fadeaway jumper, his post footwork, 4th quarter comebacks, shutting down any player that the media said was a challenge to him, were all unique to him solely as a player. I didn't care for Jordan and still don't but I do hail him as the GOAT
