My 2 month old does not have a tongue tie or anything, but she had a problem latching. She also can’t keep a pacifier in her mouth at all. My lactation consultant told me to have her do sucking exercises. I tried doing these exercises, but she gags when I try. Is there anything I can do to strengthen her sucking abilities without making her gag or am I losing hope at getting her to latch?
I would highly recommend an evaluation with a pediatric feeding SLP and/or IBCLC to try to figure out why the baby is struggling with suck and tongue movement. Treatment will depend on those reasons.

Talk to your lactation consultant or an SLP/feeding specialist about desensitization of the palate.
Hi, what can we do if the baby doesn’t suck on the finger or stick tongue out?
