In the novels, Roswaal was fighting Puck and Ram with Five-Fold casting, casting magic with his mouth (1), hands (2 & 3) and even feet (4 & 5). All while he was casting a secret sixth spell to bring Winter to the sanctuary. So, what was he casting his sixth spell with?

I know its on his backburner now but I do wanna see him go back and finish Season 1.
What he meant is that he usually say that the cut content is understandable and doesn't hurt the overall experience (because stuff HAS to be cut), but this time (and the time where they cut the satella/envy personality) are the two times where the cut content actually hurt the show

Let me say here that I haven't read the LN or WN. Holding off for now.
From my perspective, Even with a few bad translations we fully get the gist of one hellish fight. Especially knowing that the last time Puck and Roswall fought it literally changed the landscape of an entire region. And as for Satalla/Witch of Envy personality everyone complains about being missing, there's much more to come, it could very well be place in a much better location in the story for visual storytelling. We just need to be patient and see what's given to us when it's complete. Also we could get a longer fight scene and the Satalla stuff injected in a directors cut for season 2 if they intend to do one. Either way the implications on the massive scale of the fight we seen should not have been lost on anyone.
@@Mika44044 hard disagree. What the anime showcased is a roswaal only spamming fire attacks. He truly doesn't feel or look like the strongest mage in lugunica. Rem and fortuna has been spamming her ice magic twice as much as Roswaal with fire magic. They did not need to make the fight longer, it wasnt even that long in the novels, it was more a quick succession of many spells of many elements and done simultaneously which showed the tremendous power and knowledge of roswaal.
As for the satella/envy, you obviously cannot have an opinion if you haven't read... they never talk about it again to this day (arc7) and it completely ruins the immersion of season 2 episode 13. You cannot have satella who killed garfiel and everyone in sanctuary+emilia in season 1 + the whole deal of RBD just show up and subaru accepting it without a single question. Proof is that forums and reddit groups were full of anime-onlys completely confused and baffled by that episode. It's especially frustrating when that dialogue would be less than 30second
That moment you realize that Roswaal discovered immortality before Echidna (as far a being "alive")
But it's a scummy kind of immortal where he steal the bodies of his descendants.. think about it what kind of scumbag is willing to sacrifice his children and grandchildren.
This isnt a spoiler but rather cut content from the Light Novels, but IIRC it wasnt possible because Echdinas soul was too „heavy“ and couldnt fit into any human, shes a Witch afterall

@@bilaldemir8712 I have a suspicion that Echidna's method is incomplete even for Roswaal. Every time he copies his soul, only the strongest feelings and attachments are guaranteed to cross over, which is why Roswaal is so fixated on his devotion to Echidna, as well as his adamant stance that feelings should never change. If his feelings were to ever falter, they might be lost at the next transfer, and he knows it. This also means that just as Donna in the Tomb is an incomplete copy of the original Echidna, Roswaal L Mathers is just a shadow of his original self. We see when Roswaal loses his resolve in this episode that his yellow eye starts to flicker, meaning the hold his soul has over the body is weakening.
EDIT: Another sign of how incomplete this process is compared to Return By Death is that Roswaal's Gate is not transferred along with his consciousness. We see this in one of the side novels where one of his incarnations is completely unable to use magic. Whereas RBD retains Subaru's Gate (and its state, eg it can accrue damage across loops) and his Authorities.

I agree with the skipped content where Roswaal didn't entirely use his rainbow magic and just look like he kept spamming fire blast despite being titled as the greatest magic user

Pretty sure the studio was thinking that, and decided to totally remove all the action content that what I find this season did terrible. They should have made 32 episode for this season. Otto character development was slap into half eposide, the fight garf had was also cut, subaru 2nd trial should have shown more and elsa invasion should have more time with this and next episode been last for this season, it is surely cut a lot. they needed 2 episode to flash out more for all those cut content.

Tho I totally agree that what's disappointing about this season was the big brain fights, like Otto vs Garfiel which also looked like he just kept running and throwing bombs and Subaru vs Garfiel that had breathtaking hand-to-hand fights.
And yeh hopefully the last episode won't be too rush considering that there's 4-5 scenarios

With Garfiel and Elsa amazing fight. I understand why the anime didnt show this insane fight the way it could. The animators would have literally died
With some details and subtle aspects of those fights, they would definitely either die or transend into some higher form of being after ending this season
They already have 30 min episodes with no op/ed so an intense fight scene would be too much for a weekly anime. I'm glad with what we got and the cut content helps fill in the holes :D

5:08 yea I think it was a mistranslation on the subber's part because in the original Japanese VoiceOver Puck said 'I just remembered someone that used to talk like you. Is it for the sake of remembering that wound or perhaps to act as a punishment? Regardless of which, its all 'backwards facing' Puck didn't specify who he was referring to when speaking that statement, whether its to himself or roswaal so without context I can understand why it was mistranslated especially when that statement was after Puck was just referring to himself.
I love the fact that he's voiced by DIO so I subconsciously expect him to randomly say _"ZA WARUDO!"_

I'm glad Re:Zero episodes have been a full 30 min most of the time and they are using op/ed time for more content, but even with all that they still have to cut out a lot of the fights to be able to get to the end of this arc in time. I hope there is another season.

I wonder if they would do a director's cut style thing for season 2. That seems unlikely as there probably won't be a 4 year gap between season 2 and 3, but this seems like the kind of thing that could be fixed in an extended and edited scene.

I think skipping Roswaal fight is really bad, not everyone watches ReZero for the amazing world building and character development, some need the extra care in fights or the show is "bad" in their eyes. Main reason why every shounen anime tops rankings in Myanimelist without actually having a good story.
Thats why rezero is unique and dont compare it with shonen pls
We still had Garfiel vs elsa tho and it seems the cliffhanger with Betty will be action packed.
Also people who only watch for the fights completely miss the point of what re zero is.

I was confused about the whole thing with Puck for a long time. I didn't know how he was able to end his pact with Emelia, why he left her, or how Roswell changed it. I feel like I'm missing a lot of context for Roswell's motivations in general.

@@jhonblackclover5272 he's nowhere close to the witches or Reinhard. In the Wrath IF, Roswaal gets bodied by a character that hasn't been introduced yet in the anime. This character would get defeated off-screen by a handicapped Reinhard later on with what is assumed to be high difficulty. The power tier system in Re:Zero is so weird to me because there are such inconceivably large power gaps between each tier. Like, you're either one shotting someone a tier below you or getting one shot by someone a tier above you. It's so extreme.

Ohh...the punch through the ice shield, that's very possible irl...you can strike multiple boards and only break the back ones, I've only done it myself once but i've seen it done a couple time as well... its weird i think has to do with making the focal point of your strike past the actually surface target.

No he knew the Oni Village was gonna get attacked because of his Tomb of Wisdom, but he didnt do anything to protect them even tho he could because Echidna ordered not to

Yes, Roswaal didn’t Initiate attack, but the reason it was kind of his fault was because he knew the attack was coming through the book. So, he was slight responsibility for the massacre in village, since he could have easily defend the village from the cult instead of doing nothing.
Funny how the novel is so good that even though the anime cut out some really good parts, it's still close to a masterpiece.

Interesting his five fold magic kind of reminds me of when the word magic devil in black clover started casting multiple spells at once by creating individual mouths all over his body lol
The real life equivalent of what Roswaal uses to reincarnate into his next body is called the black ritual in Chaos magic. The method of doing this is really hard to find but the effects are given in the book Liber Null, a first part of a two part book on chaos magic. In short, once dead, the magician forcefully enters the body of a target after the second month of pregnancy {this refers to the fetus, not a pregnant woman} (unlike the red ritual where the pregnancy is used as a way of ensuring that the person is reincarnated in the specific purpose built body, on the second month of pregnancy or the white ritual where the soul is reincarnated into a random body...) whilst it is already occupied by another consciousness. The magician then needs to fight for the dominance and if their will is strong enough, take control of the selected body. Once that is done, he has full access to his own memories and does not need to relearn all the skills he learned in the past life (The only noticeable difference being that this person basically has 2 souls, giving off a different energetic mark, basically 2 in stead of one since the second one is from the trapped consciousness of the original occupant of the body). As for the red ritual, you can only perform it if you are male and it is cooperative magic as is the white ritual in a sense. Both other rituals require you to return your memories by re-learning the arts to the point where your past memories are triggered to resurface again. Would like to mention that red and white ritual do not mean that you are the same person reincarnated, only that you can access other persons memories, once you get a new body, all the traits regarding genetic info of that body, life experiences and identity stay the same and are not changed...
NOTEICE: The soul is basically scrubbed after death so the identity of the past life is non existent. Only the black ritual basically gives you the reincarnation in the complete sense whilst the other two rituals give you the access to the past memory of what can be considered a totally different person from what you are now...

Wait it was just negligence from roswaal with the oni village? The way I interpreted it from the anime was that he was RESPONSIBLE for the destruction of the oni village. As in he send the witch cult there like he sent elsa to the mansion or something the like.
Its the case of "Roswaal couldve prevented the destruction but decided not to do anything" like you said. Nobody knows who ordered or why the witchcult attacked that night, its not revealed yet even in the current arc. All we know is that its not only Ram and Rem's village that were attacked, other Oni villages were also raided by other witchcultists.
