Great review as ever Mark . I added a Maxi Scooter to my garage last year , a 07 low mileage Honda Silver Wing 600 . Love mine , they make so much sense and are more fun than people imagine . Mine cost 2000 pounds . The cost of that electric screen and heated grips and seats 😁😁
Great review mark, came across your channel recently,I use to ride as a learner on a aprilia rs50 in 1997 a car pulled out and I went over the bonnet lucky to be alive it put me of riding, until now and want to go for my test and your reviews have had some good beginner bikes.
As for seat height, when I'm stopped I must lean the scoot over slightly, so that my (left) foot is flat on the floor. You don't really need both down, unless there is a huge crosswind! They are fab things to ride - they do everything apart from go offroad. I've had SEVEN of them over the years, but Yamaha's build quality is declining. The early ones were super reliable but I've had a whole series of failures on newer versions. Latest thing was that the rear shock absorber failed after 11,000 miles. So I'm looking at the Forza 750.....
I bought a mk3 in 2008 new, only 2 wheeler i ever owned out of 20 that i kept more than a year, had it 3 years and 3.5k spent on mods, its on my channel, best fun ever but suffered coccyx and back pain severely over the years so sold it, used to be great outriding bigger faster bikes, much to the embarrassment of my mates who mocked me when i traded my ktm 950sm in for it until i showed them i could smoke them on the twisty stuff.
Thanks again, Mark. I agree that this TMax 550 is better than the Forza 750. Yamaha gives the rider what he wants. Where as, Honda low ball's it, leaving one wanting for more. It's not about engine size as much as it's about weight vs torque/hp. Yamaha nailed it again on this offering. Great engineering and great marketing. The only thing missing is a bit better gas milage. I was expecting around 65-70 mpg. I think they made the decision to tune for performance over milage. However, Xmax 300 seems to be tuned more for gas milage, while still being rapid. But ya gotta love this TMax 550... Gord
Thanks Gordon yes I'd agree the tmax is fantastic to ride but pricey....the 300 is a great cheaper option ...I like the Forza 750 but would get the nc750,,,x dct instead Mark
@@markpulling12 Mark, I'm curious. Do you like the Yamaha VCT or the Honda DCT transmission better? It seems that the DCT might have a bit more character, especially in manual mode. When it comes to the Honda NC750 with DCT and the Yamaha Tracer 9 GT with speed shifter... I know you wouldn't punt... but would go for the gusto. Yes, the Tracer is more money... but for what you get, it's priceless. Plus, the NC750 Is almost as heavy as the Tracer. But that extra cylinder and 150 more cc's really pushes it over the top. I located two in my area that are new and for sale at Yamaha dealers. Gordon
@@markpulling12 good info.. i want the nc750x dct but had no idea on the forza 750 that is not available in Asia ; anyway. I hear the engine is the same.
Just got a Tmax 2021 with 3000 k on the meter. Perfect for city commuting, and more.... DONT LIKE Yamahas pricing of the top-box with fitting kit. 1000 EUR all in all. What to use instead? With Givi you have to drill holes in the plastic panels on the back???
What's it like in terms of how it handles bumps in the road? I've been riding bikes for just over 3 years now and tried quite a few in that time! For some reason I am really sensitive to bumps in the road. I just feel like I'm being jolted up and down for the entire ride when on country roads. All suspension seems harsh to me these days. I keep searching for that one bike where I ride it and think "this is the bike". Not found it yet.
Hi mark ..ha .ha the " illusive" bike syndrome I'm like that :) I found it to be very forgiving over the bumps ... didn't jolt me out of the seat ...it handled similar to a motorcycle ...very impressive to ride Cheers mark
@@markpulling12 Cheers Mark. I keep feeling that I'm really indecisive over bikes but I see plenty of people changing bikes every few months so I'm not alone haha! :-D
Royal Enfield Himalayan is very good over bumpy roads. Has the added advantage of being pretty decent off road, as well. Downside - don't be in a hurry. It's a 'B' road plodder. Upside, it's only about £4,500 brand new.
Hiya Mark, my main ride is a VFR1200x for which I do many miles on, but as I've always liked scooters I purchased a 2020 burgman 400 for those days when one just fancies a pootle about at leisure and it's a magnificent ride and puts a big grin on my face when riding it. A maxi scoot is a great second bike to have indeed if one can find the funds to have two rides. I managed to get a great deal on my 400, £5750 brand new in Matt black with blue wheels and 100% happy with it 👍🏻. I don't think i'de part with 12k though for a scooter as that is a enormous amount of coin
The seat looks a very comfortable derriere pad. Very well featured piece of kit including the belt drive, adj screen, centre stand lock. How many key fobs? Very impressive bike, scooter don't worry about the semantics. Like you say heated grips, seat, belt drive, cruise control, smooth, good pick-up. Definitely add a 56 litre Givi top box as I have on my CB500F. With that screen this is better.
Thanks for your insights! I’ve just changed my Xmax to the Tmax which is identical to the one you tested. I am also 5’7”. The wider seat is fine if one footer on the ground. My feeling is that the suspension is softer than expected.
Brilliant video, i bought last year the tmax tech max but now decided to buy the forza 750, because my short leg just like you Mark i’m only 5’8” and still streching and i’d try the forza and is just safer when i need to stop, because is lower seat height and not too wide seat. Going on saturday for a test drive will see🤔
Will be my 4th Max. I like the Analogue Dash, call me old fashioned. Where in the UK are you driving, it looks amazing and would like to run your Test Route on my Bike
This is a rare machine in the U.S. I purchased a 2009 Tmax 2-1/2 yrs ago for $3,000 in great shape. Steal of a deal. I did my Christmas shopping in December around downtown Spokane on the scooter in 38 deg weather. Best time Christmas shopping ever. Never seen another Tmax here. Nice to find another rider enjoying the same bike.
Great review Mark shame they've dropped the Matt Black option, i have a used 530DX with a Hyperpro rear Spring which lowers it by 20mm i paid 7k for my 2yr old with 500 miles. I test rode the 560 but honestly couldn't tell the difference in power.
We love our XMAX 300 , just a good around scooter , unfortunately they don’t have the TMAX available in our State in the US, if the TMAX 560 had been available at that time we wouldn’t have hesitated in buying one , just love the comfort ease of twist and go ,and the fun factor.
The neutral wire to the battery needs to be extended to get the battery out fully. It's so hard for me to get to the neutral screw because of my big hands.
They're great scoots. I had a mark 3 500. May well get another... If it was me I would have left the brake test until after one of my favourite bends on Dorsets leafy lanes...Nice review Mark, thanks.
Really great review Mark - you covered everything. Might have to put that on my shopping list - oh, and a CBT. Might need that!! Doesn't it have a neutral position then?
@@markpulling12 Thanks Mark. yeah I knew it's CVT - although you were the only review video that actually said that!! So basically if you're not grabbing the brake, off you go!!

These scooters will now do everything a normal commuter bike will but with the added practicality of under seat storage and far better fuel consumption.. My main ride is Triumph Bobber and I find I am using the scooter more and more as no chain to mess with far more comfortable etc
Hi had a look and can't find anything ...you usually just see luggage carry weight listed like say 15 kg ish .. .this bike is more than capable of carrying two large 6ft people with ease I would say Best regards mark
Wish I bought this. Had to settle for 2018x max 400... Rectifier went at 5000 miles so shock for a yamaha. Still a little pricey for the t max but great spec... Just a bit scepticle now about yamaha reliability.
@@volt8684 actually. It wasnt the rectifier in the end.. At least I don't think. My handbrake seized to the rear disc causing drags which in turn ended up frying the battery which I only found out AFTER forking out for a rectifier so still unlucky 😅. Moved on to a t max 2019 530 dx since then per thumbnail. Fookin love it.
Hi Steve I did ride it a bit through town at 30 mph and it's super smooth and easy to filter ...it's a big scooter but I'd say it's good for commuting cheers mark
It's ideal for commuting - i have the 530 btw. I commute from near Basingstoke to Hammersmith, so M3 and town work. Need to fold mirrors in for tight filtering as the bike is quite wide. Electric screen excellent as are heated grips and seat. Cruise control excellent ideal for average speed check zones. Good storage, wish the tank would be bigger though. MPG about 55-60, 80mph is about 6k rpm
@@markpulling12 can I ask, what is your opinion on the new T max 2022 visually? See the new handlebar frame and that big ass screen in the middle? I much prefer the aesthetic of the 2021 model simpler and more pleasing and I find that big screen thing a bit OTT on The new model. Which would u prefer in all honest opinion? I'm going to be forking out over 14k for one and I don't really use sat nav at all so not sure if I'd need it which I think the big screen is there for. Sure if I did, I'd have an earphone and use my Google maps for direction.
@@markpulling12 i have to agree. I want to buy new and between the front panels and the weird metal handle bar and big bright screen, it's a bit to dressed up for my liking and too techy... . The 2020 model dash is just simpler and easier on the eye. It's definately the winner. Thanks for your opinion 😊
A very nice machine. Amazingly Honda didn't bother with CC - otherwise it could have been a pretty tough competition.... So for now, The Forza 750 is off my list. This one is on !
Great review as ever. I’m torn between this and the Forza. Frankly, this is better rounded and Honda fell short for the money. Heated grips, electric screen, CC and long heritage. My ATAS DCT is quite annoying in town either dragging first for too long or third which is too high and where CVT wins out.
Hey Mark. Very nice review. Is that scooter available in the US? I'm dying to get one. I've owned 2 scooters and I love them. (I had a Aprilia Scarabeo 500ie for 13 years.) 🙂
Im a total convert. Bought mine a year ago imagined I ride my Honda for fun and this to work. Not been on my Honda since. One Caveat, they're so popular to thieves (despite the locking centre stand) that my pal was going to buy one but was unable to get insurance in London.
I'm currently on a PCX150 and have been looking at the TMAX 530 for a while, but that and the 560 are still a little pricey. After viewing your XMAX300 video I that may just become my intermediate until the TMAX prices drop.
One observation I make is that it appears as if the cruise control is on the left handlebar. I have a Kawasaki Vulcan Voyager 1700 (a cruiser I know and a different brand) but the cruise control is on the right-hand grip as it is on the Goldwing and the Can Am Spyders that I tested. That seems logical to me. It wouldn't be the reason not to buy the bike and I guess I'd get used to it but it just seems off. I live in Australia where we drive on the same side of the road. I don't want to labour the point but it makes no sense.
I've watched this review and that of the 2022 model many times and just realized that I've bought this very machine from Crescent. I prefer the semi analog screen and I certainly don't want all the connectivity of the 2022 model when I'm out and about - trying to get away from it all.
Great bike - I want one. Since a machine like this is also likely to be urban transport an urban test including filtering would be nice to see. . Good review though - Thanks,
They should bring them to Canada we only have the Burgman 400 want some thing a little better for the highway. we had the Burgman 650 but a little over loaded with things you do not need like power marrows the Yamaha TMAX 560 tech max has what you need for out climate heated grips and seat and a good windshield. If you could get a good size trunk on it, it would be a great touring scooter. Had the Yamaha Majesty 400 and loved it, wish they still made it.
Hilton, you hit the nail on the head. I also own a Burgman 400. It’s got great space, room to stretch and generally all I need. But I’d love to have a little more power for some of the mountainous freeways here out west. The Burgman 650 is such a bloated pig (well over 600 lbs). Whereas this Tmax is only a little heavier than the the Burgman 400. With 562cc ! I suppose it doesn’t matter now, as the B650 is discontinued. I’m not thrilled with the Kymco AK550. But if Yamaha or Suzuki doesn’t get off their ass, (in the states) I might have to look elsewhere
I like a touring scooter but that seat height (I am the same height as you and with an inside leg an inch shorter) and with the wide seat and the weight on top I won't be beating a path to my local Yamaha dealer.

@@markpulling12 yeh but they hold their value well. 2019 mint Tmax £8K. New pre-reg Burgman £6K with 3(?) year warranty.

Thanks James ...good luck with your test....yes there are some brilliant beginner bikes out there ! ;)

Thanks for the comment Tim ...yes the Forza 750 is great !
What is your height? I am 5 feet 7 with a 29 inch inside leg and I am afraid I might have to lean too far over, lose my footing and topple over!
Thanks for the comment Des ,!
Gord
Thanks Gordon yes I'd agree the tmax is fantastic to ride but pricey....the 300 is a great cheaper option ...I like the Forza 750 but would get the nc750,,,x dct instead
Mark
@@markpulling12 Mark,
I'm curious.
Another awesome review MP! Keep it up 🇬🇧
Thanks very much tom :)
Hi mark ..ha .ha the " illusive" bike syndrome I'm like that :)
I found it to be very forgiving over the bumps ... didn't jolt me out of the seat ...it handled similar to a motorcycle ...very impressive to ride
Cheers mark
@@markpulling12 Cheers Mark. I keep feeling that I'm really indecisive over bikes but I see plenty of people changing bikes every few months so I'm not alone haha! :-D
Have you tried a BMW.
@@lesmoore6336 no but the c400 looks good :)
Fair point it is expensive I've had experience of burgman 400s and they make alot of sense as a second bike for pottering about on
Cheers mark
Forza for me definitely. What shocks does it have? Smaller front wheel? 2k more. Dash looks very dated needs full tft
Thanks Alfred :)

Hi Mark, Great review. You got anything pencilled in to review the new 2022 version? Cheers
Hi yes I'll be reviewing all the new Yamahas once they arrive here in the UK later in the year cheers mark
Brilliant video, i bought last year the tmax tech max but now decided to buy the forza 750, because my short leg just like you Mark i’m only 5’8” and still streching and i’d try the forza and is just safer when i need to stop, because is lower seat height and not too wide seat. Going on saturday for a test drive will see🤔
Thanks tamas let me know what you think :)
You are so right!👍Great machine well equipped, very quick set off, amazingly fast for a maxi scooter! 👏
Thanks Colin. :)

I love my 2009 Tmax 500....... Yamaha please bring these BACK to America !!!!! I want a 2022 Model Tmax .
It would be nice if you could get hold of the new Sym Maxsym TL 508 for comparison....
Great review Mark shame they've dropped the Matt Black option, i have a used 530DX with a Hyperpro rear Spring which lowers it by 20mm i paid 7k for my 2yr old with 500 miles. I test rode the 560 but honestly couldn't tell the difference in power.
Thanks for the comment...yes this is the second tmax I've ridden and I think they are great ...they go very well for just 45 ish hp :)

We love our XMAX 300 , just a good around scooter , unfortunately they don’t have the TMAX available in our State in the US,
if the TMAX 560 had been available at that time we wouldn’t have hesitated in buying one , just love the comfort ease of twist and go ,and the fun factor.

Hi Daniel no it's twist and go so no neutral gear :)

Wish I bought this. Had to settle for 2018x max 400... Rectifier went at 5000 miles so shock for a yamaha. Still a little pricey for the t max but great spec... Just a bit scepticle now about yamaha reliability.
Dont be, unlucky, think u will find yamaha are recorded as most reliable motorcycle atm
Agreed. As a matter of fact, I’d have no problem recommending any of the Japanese big 3 bikes regarding reliability.
Good video Mark as usual 👍, what’s it like commuting, round town etc. ?
Just came back to look at the last beautiful T max model released. Genuinely thinking now to go for the 2021 model. It looks so badass.
Thanks Richie ....best maxi scooter out there :)

Thanks for the comment Ian .. yes I've heard they are hot in London !
we have a similar problem in my city, can i ask you how much does it cost an insurance in London?
Going to buy one actually soon. Great review thanks
I'm currently on a PCX150 and have been looking at the TMAX 530 for a while, but that and the 560 are still a little pricey. After viewing your XMAX300 video I that may just become my intermediate until the TMAX prices drop.
Thanks I think the xmax 300 is great ...it's very quick and great fun at less than half price of a tmax
Cheers mark
One observation I make is that it appears as if the cruise control is on the left handlebar. I have a Kawasaki Vulcan Voyager 1700 (a cruiser I know and a different brand) but the cruise control is on the right-hand grip as it is on the Goldwing and the Can Am Spyders that I tested. That seems logical to me. It wouldn't be the reason not to buy the bike and I guess I'd get used to it but it just seems off. I live in Australia where we drive on the same side of the road. I don't want to labour the point but it makes no sense.
Thanks for the comment Roger 🙂👍

i wish i can experience tmax in my life :)
So, the Tmax 560 has smaller storage space than the Xmax 300?
Yes ...just for one helmet
Great bike - I want one. Since a machine like this is also likely to be urban transport an urban test including filtering would be nice to see. . Good review though - Thanks,
Thanks for the feedback thomas
What is the visibility like through the screen when it's raining?
Hi its ok as the wind blows the screen and clears it quite effectively
