    I was diagnosed with Nonalcoholic fatty liver about 10 years ago. I was drinking 2-3 2 liter bottles of soda every day which was the root cause. I stopped drinking soda, ran 2 hours per day and lost 50 LBs..... and fatty liver disappeared after a couple years. Haven't had a recurrence of fatty liver since then even though I eat anything I want, just do it in moderation.

      This has helped me too. I'm glad that you don't need to drastically change eating habits, just eat less of everything and maybe avoid the bigger foods risks. I've dropped bacon from my diet now. I'm not touching it for a least the time being, however long that is.

      @@mariceladosamantes1682 no shouldn’t. Potatoes are high carbohydrates food that is glucose. No rich. No flour. No starch. No corn. No carrot. No salt. No sugar. No bread. No wheat and no whole meal too. No fruits too ! Just temporary. I reversed my fatty liver in 5 weeks. Just boiled veggies and white meats. And no food after 7pm. Fasting till next day lunch. So ur body hunger can burn off the fat around the liver. Which exercising are less effecting than fasting.

Throw out any carbs in your home don't buy anymore always have vegetables on hand for snacking. When ever you get the urge for carbs grab bag of carrots, or what ever you like. The key is to keep low carb stuff on hand to grab it quick before you think about eating high carb snacks always keep something with you when your out. What I used to do was not eat and get super hungry and then eat a ton of carbs.

    I did my blood test yesterday after 5 weeks of 100% no carbohydrates no sugar no fruits no starch no red meat diet. My Liver panel test result shown AST , ALT , GGT level all perfect! Far from its top range. Just 5 weeks. My fatty liver is reversed to healthy normal. I lost 4-5kg just from dieting and stop eating after 7pm till next day lunch. 2 meals a day. Only boiled using water, steam Fish , tofu , cabbage broccoli veggies , chicken breast , black coffee no sugar for afternoon lunch and green tea no sugar during evening dinner not later than 7pm. After 7pm I fast till next day lunch 12pm. The fasting time is extremely important as this time allows digestion and some hunger which makes our body burn the fat within without exercising. Exercising barely able to reach the fat around our liver. So fasting is the effective way. I had No milk (contain high fat and high sugar) . No snacks. No all kind of bread which still are carbohydrates. No cake. No biscuits. No rice. No noodles. No fruits especially as it’s fructose are directly process only by our liver! Just 5 weeks and fatty liver is back to normal with proven liver function blood test compared to my previous test result 5 weeks ago. I feel very lively light and positive. I lost 5kg. Also My cholesterol and sugar level were also extremely good blood test result! I m looking way younger and my body is nicer too. I m 33 years old male. Non smoker non alcoholic. Didn’t work in a toxic environment. I didn’t exercise. But I ate much rice , fatty red meat, and milk and cookies and fruits. I slept late before. Now I kicked those bad habit n bad diet. After recovered from fatty liver, I continue my way of eating n fasting n sleeping time. I reintroduced some healthy carbohydrates back into my diet. Such as some corn carrot , some wheat bread, a little potatoes. Please make sure u do not overdo it. I really mean only some. Lack of discipline and taking it for granted will cause regrets. I’m sharing for mankind and for those who were helpless from useless doctors. And I’m sharing in memory of my late father who passed away due to end stage liver disease.

      You don’t NEED to do keto if you don’t want to. It’s more about making smart decisions in the day. Less processed carbs and sugars.
      less processed bread (choose whole grain, spelt, rye, etc.), less sugar (fizzy drinks, sweet refined cookies, biscuits, cakes)
      More fruit, a lot more veg. Less meat, or cut meat. What ever your choice is. I prefer a veg diet.
      Edit: Agreed with exercise and kinda with alcohol. Just don’t drink lots. A pint once a week isn’t going to hurt. Just don’t over do it, same with everything else. You don’t want to punish yourself, or else you’ll fall back into eating crap.

    • @BetterMe981
      @BetterMe981 4 года назад +4

      @@jeneral-jeff8402 Whole, spelt and rye are still bread, still carbs. Best to cut it all out if you have fatty liver already. One either wants to fix their liver r not. To suggest it is "punishing" oneself to give up carbs that turn to sugar, including and especially alcohol, is ridiculous. You either change your mindset, or continue to make your liver worse. So, yes, a ketogenic type diet is completely necessary.

    • @jeneral-jeff8402
      @jeneral-jeff8402 4 года назад +2

      forcommenting I did say eat less sugar and processed carbs. Which includes whole grains, spelt and rye. I was implying that you eat less of it all in favour for my fibrous foods like fruit and veg.
      Also, i don’t want to cut out carbs. I like the, and we have been eating them for thousands of years. I’m not going to over indulge myself in them because I understand moderation. I also think eating foods high in cholesterol isn’t the way to go either. Unless you exercise daily and in huge amounts. Think before we had processed carbs. Humans run around hunting for food, maybe fast for a few days as you had nothing. Then kill something big, high calorie/high cholesterol food which would sustain for a few days to find the next meal. We would burn off those calories and cholesterol. But if you aren’t active, it will just build up.

I might have a lite beer every month and a bottle of wine in a year's time. I don't eat many sweets. My liver tests are all well within normal range. Yet, I was found to have a lot of fat in my liver during a scan for another reason--A LOT OF FAT. I lost weight--from 213 to 203 to 180. I am getting almost there. Next December (2024) I will have another ultrasound. Follow a good diet as indicated by the Doctor above. I now know why I have had chronic fatigue over the last 20-25 years. Good luck.

I am not overweight, I don’t drink alcohol or soda/sugary drinks. I don’t eat gluten, and I do eat lots of fruit. My diet doesn’t have enough vegetables. I do take a lot of anti inflammatory medication. My liver enzymes are perfect. My cholesterol and blood sugar are normal and had always been normal.
    What is required for the fatty liver diagnosis? Aside from decreasing fruit and increasing vegetables, is there anything else I can do? Are liver enzymes supposed to be impacted for this diagnosis or is the MRI itself sufficient enough?

      So I'm writing a research paper on this (due in 2 weeks). As far as diagnosis, what I found was that there has to be high levels of fat in the liver (not in your blood or body fat even though those can be predictors of NAFLD). The presence of just high levels of fat in the liver is simply called NAFL (Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver) and is the first stage of NAFLD.
      The second stage of NAFLD is called Nonalcoholic Steatohepatitis (NASH). All NASH means is that there is inflammation of the liver. Some of the comments mention having a larger than normal liver. They most likely have NASH.
      Those are the only two stages of NAFLD but NASH can turn into Fibrosis (build up of scar tissue in the liver) and then Cirrhosis (liver failure from the scar tissue).
      That's all I got for you.

    I have fatty liver disease. I don't drink and I have started eating much better. Is there blood work that I can have done to see if my liver is getting better?

    • @jesstaylforth9909
      @jesstaylforth9909 8 лет назад +5

      I'm no doctor but from what I'm aware of you can get a blood test and the results tell the doctor if you have abnormal liver enzymes. Then through an ultrasound (there is also other methods I believe) the doctor can tell how many fat cells there are in the liver and how many normally functioning liver cells there are. Suggesting that this could be a way for you to see progress?

    • @debwall68
      @debwall68 8 лет назад

      Thank you for responding. I had the ultrasound months ago, I do have insuance but I have to pay a percentage. So that is way I wanted a cheaper way to see if I'm doing better or if the liver is getting better. Thank you again

    Based on the functionality of metabolic pathways, I would think that diabetes and obesity would be a symptom of NAFLD not the cause. The cause would be what what causes high blood sugar and overweight... which would be excess carbohydrates , sugars, and processed foods.

    I was diagnosed with hereditary hemochromatosis last year. My liver was inflamed (liver enzymes were up). I have a very fatty liver, too. I gained 30 lbs last year because of the HH as I had zero energy from winter 2017 to Summer 2018. I sat on the couch because I could not move due to that lack of energy. After several phlebotomies, my liver enzymes are down (thank God), and I feel so much better. Now, I just need to lose that weight that I gained last year. FYI, the liver biopsy hurt like hell because of that inflammation. The anesthesia didn't help at all. That was the worst pain that I've ever felt.

      Shawna, it is really hard to provide meaningful insights via this form of communication, as everyone's medical situation is different. You can read up more on a MRI and why one is typically used bit.ly/2uGtmbb, e.g. MRI is better at telling the difference between types of soft tissues and between normal and abnormal soft tissues. Here is more information on the use of ultrasound as well: bit.ly/1GrsKXq. We recommend you note these additional concerns to your provider. Hope this is helpful.

Just posted the info on my patient record and letters back and forth asking for recommendatons and recommending further scans or different scan. Whether that relates to the another problem i have with the right kidney (heamorragic cyst) or scanning of all three organs is required, again 🤷‍♂

      vivek shah Here...I copied and pasted for you. But I would recommend looking for good doctors on RUclips and elsewhere that teach about keto. Dr. Ken Berry has a great RUclips channel. Look at his videos on Fatty Liver...he has at least two. Here’s my previous comment: Leslie Hi Leslie. I have NASH (non-alcoholic steatohepatitis), which is fatty liver disease that has progressed to scarring of my liver. (DIagnosed by biopsy.) I had LOTS of burning pain in the liver area for YEARS, which the gastro doctors kept telling me could not be from my liver, even though that is exactly where the pain was. I had my gallbladder removed 20 years ago. The pain was similar to a gallbladder attack, but obviously could not be my gallbladder. No gastro doctor or hepatologist had any recommendations for me as to what kind of diet I should use to fix my liver. Just, “lose weight.,” or “try weight watchers.” Well, I couldn’t lose weight no matter what I did. I tried Weight Watchers, and the standard low-fat, “healthy whole-grain”, high vegetable diet that we have all been told to eat for years, and I couldn’t lose an ounce. I even went vegetarian and finally vegan, and still felt horrible and couldn’t lose weight. After years and years of feeling miserable, I talked to a Functional Medicine doctor, who suggested that I try a ketogenic diet. Keto was pretty much the exact opposite of everything I had ever been told to do, and it was a complete miracle for me. After cutting out all sugar, starch and vegetable oils and consuming only eggs, fatty meats, avocados, olive oil, butter, coconut oil, ghee, and lots of non-starchy vegetables and leafy greens, my liver improved tremendously. After only 9 months on a ketogenic diet, ALL of the fat in my liver was GONE. This has been confirmed by MRI and Fibroscan. I still have some scarring, but am hoping to heal that over time, or at least stop the progression. Vegetable oils are inflammatory (Crisco, canola, soybean, sunflower, etc. - clear oils in a bottle), but saturated fats (butter, ghee, coconut oil, the fat in eggs and meats) are not inflammatory and do NOT stress your liver. FAT does not cause fatty liver - sugar and carbohydrates do! I am proof positive of that. I ate tons of so-called “healthy” carbs for years (whole-grain breads, brown rice, quinoa, etc.) and my liver got worse and worse. Cutting out grains and sugar was the best thing I ever did for my liver. Research the ketogenic diet and give it a try. Don’t let the many uninformed doctors out there scare you and tell you keto is dangerous and will harm you. That is nonsense. It’s the sugar and carbs (including fruit) that are killing us and damaging our livers. I’ve been keto for 18 months now, and I am down 62.2 pounds so far and haven’t felt better in years. I was heading towards pre-diabetes, and now my fasting blood sugars are in the 60s! I wish you the best of luck with your liver condition. It IS fixable if you get all the sugar, carbohydrates and inflammatory oils out of your diet (that includes “vegetable oil,” seed oils, soybean oil, margarine, Crisco, etc.). Stick to real butter, ghee, coconut oil, avocado oil, and olive oil. Eat lot of eggs, with the yolks, which contain choline. Choline can help you get the fat out of your liver. I have at least two egg yolks per day. The food you can eat on keto is DELICIOUS, satisfying, and will heal your liver. I never thought I could do this...until I did! You don’t have to live with the fear of liver cancer or liver failure. You can fix this yourself, naturally. But don’t count on your traditional doctors to give you dietary advice. You will never get better that way, unfortunately. I had pain like yours for years, and no one could figure it out. I was scoped and no problem found with my stomach. It was all coming from my liver.

      After taking highly refined fish oil I was diagnosed with fatty liver despite being non-diabetic and normal cholesterol. My scan from 5 years prior had shown no fatty liver. So it could be a possibility.

    Hereditary fructose intolerance
    Hereditary fructose intolerance is a serious type of fructose intolerance. However, it is treatable and manageable.
    It occurs when a person is unable to digest neither fructose nor fructose precursors, such as brown sugar.
    Those with hereditary fructose intolerance lack sufficient activity of an enzyme called fructose-1-phosphate aldolase, which helps digest fructose.
    The fructose then accumulates in the liver and kidneys, causing serious and potentially fatal complications, such as liver and kidney failure.

    We are at a loss. My step daughter was diagnosed and already has scarring. She does not drink, cholesterol is great, has low blood sugar and eats a healthy diet. We can't seem to find guidance for what she should do! They act like they have never seen a case like her before. Any thoughts? The doctors sure don't have any.

      Robin Garrett That story sounds similar to mine. Since I was diagnosed with fibrosis I was put on metformin and have gotten much stricter with my already healthy diet. I don’t eat fruit. I eat huge amounts of bitter greens in salads and beets. I use organic olive oil and lemon juice. I try to eat all organic and only 2x a day. No snacking. I drink lemon water and coffee. I am working to cut down all exposure to chemicals. I clean with vinegar water, use coconut oil for body lotion, no antiperspirant, etc. my bloodwork has improved drastically. I haven’t had follow up liver scans yet.

    High cholesterol has nothing to do with it. It's the garbage sugar and carbs.

      Daniel Marone...Totally agree! My Cholesterol levels are excellent: Triglycerides 95, Total Cholesterol 165, HDL 67, LDL 75 and I still developed Fatty Liver. Granted, I am overweight by 25 lbs and used to eat a lot of carbs and sugar. Have already lost 11lbs in 2 months which doesn't sound a lot but I have done it all by cutting out all sugary drinks like fruit juices(wasn't a soda drinker at all and don't drink alcohol) and have also greatly reduced my carb intake(having a hard time giving up bread and pasta completely).
