My guess (expectation) is that cryptogenic SLD is due to consumption of sugar (the precursor to alcohol).

I just had an ultrasound on URQ today. The following are the results.
Of note, my doctor hasn't had a chance to view or discuss them with me yet. I found them available on the patient portal. I was curious, as the radiology tech made sure to tell me they would rush them in order to make them available today.
    Impression
    1. Hepatomegaly with increased parenchymal echogenicity, likely
    representing hepatic steatosis.
    2. Cholelithiasis without sonographic evidence of acute
    cholecystitis. No biliary dilatation.
    FINDINGS:
Liver: Measures 19 cm. Liver parenchyma demonstrates increased echogenicity with relatively normal contour. Main portal vein is patent.
Gallbladder/Bile Duct: There are numerous small gallstones within the gallbladder lumen. No gallbladder wall thickening. No intrahepatic
or extrahepatic biliary dilatation. Common bile duct 5.6 mm.
Right kidney: 9.8 cm. No solid renal mass, hydronephrosis or
    definitive calculi.
    IVC normal. No ascites.
I have a couple of cardiometabolic risk factors. So, this effectively states that I am officially diagnosed with MASLD, then?
Edit: I am aware that these are personal medical records, but seeing as how there's no personally identifying information to accompany them, I feel comfortable with sharing them.

@@waelfadlallah8939Don't forget fructose and in the long term vegetable oil consumption, as they are high in linoleic acid can also be a factor.
And if you're diabetic, the polyol pathway could be playing a role via glucose to fructose conversion
Hyperuricemia may also activate the polyol pathway.

    MASLD (NAFLD)
    Aka
    Fructose liver disease
    Or
    Excess Linoleic Acid Liver disease
Or alcohol. Pretty much all of these cause this issue, and compound together. Not sure why most doctors can't figure this from the literature.
