I’m glad! I try and make each video better and better. Though it takes a LOT of time to do this lol.
Check power consistency at the plug supply end ensuring there is a continuous consistent voltage supply. If good then rejoin the plug and back probe on the motor side and check again.
Matt you need a workshop manual. Those regulators need to be calibrated. One touch might work when you do the key lock/unlock trick in the door. Both of these are in the WS Manual. Contact me and I can answer any questions.

I swapped switches from the drivers side when I got the car. No change.

Have to look it up again but I believe you have to turn the key to lock position several times then to unlock to get the windows to work with the key. Also, again from memory, the windows need to be fully rolled down and back up several times to sync them up. Finally the regulator has a top stop and a bottom stop that has to be dialed in with a stop screw. Count your blessings that you didn’t buy a cabriolet. 😭
Have you considered your window problem may be the window switch?
I swapped the switch in the middle console with the driver's side, no change.
There are two switches, one up for the inside and one for the outside, I had a similar problem and actually was the soldering that was cracked overtime, I just heat them with a soldering iron and melt the solder and it worked perfectly.
If the other window behaves then I'd try swapping the switch wires over incase it's that. Loving the content 👍🏻

i agree. allways swap parts before you buy new ones. had the same issue with a headlight on a saab that didnt work, it was the fuzebox and not the headlight so glad i swaped lights first!

It sounds like the relay is clicking on and off in time with the window starting and stopping. Could be something wrong with the module that controls the windows.
My windows (not Porsche) started behaving oddly and then eventually stopped altogether. I changed the switch, then the power window control module, it ended up being a dicky relay that was hidden in the passenger footwell. Props to you for going it alone, I would have taken it to an auto sparky by now haha
Plug the passenger side window motor into the drivers door harness and see it the problem persists while being wired to the drivers door. If it follows over to the driver side, it must be the motor.

Bad batteries in cars will definitely mess with electronics. Replaced the wife's batteries in her jeep, made a massive difference. Even if it isn't messing with the window, it can mess with how it runs. At least in my experience any manual I ever drove, ran like poo on a bad battery. I am curious if that thing does too.
I agree the bad battery could b the root cause of multiple electrical issues. Try the window with the car running. Then, Like others have said, swap the window switches and then try with car running

If you haven't checked out what Crucible Coachworks did with the front end of their 996 after you get it running you should check it out before the repaint which I vote white with a Martini livery in vinyl or the really pretty metallic blue they do now. Then, when you redo the seats, do tartan fabric centers and door panels. How can you not call it Tool Time Tuesday's?? Been looking forward to the upload Matt.

Hey Matt, the white "tape" is for "home installation" not for driving with it. It can loosen due to the vibrations and become leaky, it is better to use a liquid agent.

May I ask, what was that red air container you used when prepping the plenum and TB?
You can put chemicals in them such as brake cleaner and then pressurize them which will allow you to spray the chemical continuously with a single button press.

I hope its the battery, last week my battery was flat and the windows acted all weird. Battery charged and everything was back to normal

Haven't done that yet, no. Next on the list.
That's just a Johnny Cash passenger side window but instead of One Piece at a Time the window moves One Inch at a Time. You should put a meter on it and see if the motor gets voltage and then loses it. Maybe it's a bad switch, ground, or relay.
More investigation needed.
You making good progress..That window situation is crazy...I'm not gonna lie..If I was keep that car for long term..I probably would convert it to manual roll ups from a FC Rx7 or something..it's just too much trouble.. hopefully you fix it though..Good Job so far..👍🏽🏁

Could the window problem be a stored code that needs cleared and reset ???? Or perhaps the wiring harness to that switch has a bad contact or is damaged.
Haven't had a code for it that I've seen.
For the window, I can't remember if you've checked relays if it has any. But it sounds like it could be a failing relay. If the relay can't hold the switch constantly, it could cause an intermittent on/off/on/off

I had interfence with the bracket that runs across the intake runners. Took a while to figure out.
Not an interference issue because I removed the entire window and it still does it.
Get a multimeter on that plug and/or motor and see if the voltage is consistent.

You should try a different switch for the window. My VW touran window acts the same and I know for a fact the window switch is failing through VCDS.

Hey Matt, does that thing have a "comfort relay" like the E36s? The PS window on my 318is would work, doing that little bit at a time nonsense both up and down. Replacing the comfort relay fixed it. Jusr spitballing a suggestion. Keep up the great content, buddy! Ken
I'm now googling thing. Maybe a BCM controls it? But I find it odd that one window works perfectly, and the other doesn't.
Is there a module controlling the windows? VAG is notorious for making modules for everything. If so, that might be worth changing

You only fix things with the parts cannon of your lucky. You need to diagnose the problem, not just fire parts at it. You’ve probably got a wiring or earthing problem.

Does the Body Control Module have any part in controlling how the windows operate? I know that thing can cause all sorts of electrical gremlins if it gets damaged, so maybe window issues are a part of that

Eh Mat I don't know for the 996 but my Golf R, when i unplug the battery and plug it back the one touch window button dont work. I need to run the car like 1-2 miles and then every thing work good. I know make the seting with an OBD2 for the car can work to. So i do mine with VCDS. Your window regulator seem to work fine so the problem are probably in the coding

@@matt13ross ok so nothing works ! So i know in VW some car need an adaptation, kind of, it's a process where the window regulator need to know each position. It's like put the window up and hold the button for a certain amount of second, then put it down hold button etc. etc.
Im pretty sure you can found something stupid like that ! Because if we go logically the button work, the regulator work it's brand new so it's need to be something like that ! Don't give up friend, don't give up ! We are still with you on this car for sure !

Possibly the window switch has a loose internal connection. Swap the window switch left to right. Takes 2 min and costs nothing. If the problem changes side, easy fix. If not, at least you ruled that out.

@@matt13ross In that case if I was in your shoes I would dedicate more time to just this problem for now. Not as a side quest in between other mods. 1-Check for broken wires in the door jam. 2-Try swapping the motor left to right (sucks I know). 3-Check for loose connection at the fuse box. 4-Check body control module with "durametric" scan tool. You can also do what's affectionately called the "wiggle test". Wiggle all the wiring you can reach while activating the window. If there's a short somewhere you wiggled, the problem will get better or worse.
Regarding the window: It's the switch issue, I have the same problem with a French car that uses mutiplex signals to lower and raise the window, when the resistance in ohms of the switch is not the right value the window module will not know if to lower or raise the window. In my case the power window switch uses the same contacts as a tv remote and those are known to fail after some times of use! The solution is to change the power window switch assembly!

Load regulator that’s gone soft, it’s a safety protection so that the window does not chop your head off, is my guess on window problem

@@matt13ross usually on its power module, switches control board. Think it works on amp loading, if your voltage is not regulated on its control, a low voltage will cause over amp and its safety will kick in.

have you tried to reset the widow memory? open both windows and hold the window button down for 10 seconds after they are completely rolled down and then roll it up and hold it for 10 seconds
I've tried that probably 50 times with no luck. Do both windows need to be down or open?
@@matt13ross yes so initially you have the 2 buttons on center console, you hold both the buttons down until both windows roll completely down and continue to hold them down for 10 seconds, then pull both buttons up until both windows are rolled up and continue to hold the buttons up for 10 seconds, that should synchronize the windows and do the one touch feature
I haven't heard of doing both at the same time. The problem is, I can't hold the pass button down because I have to press it 10 times to get it all the way down.

You don't need to code the new throttle body it was all set for the vehicle the 996 from shelf ?
Occasionally a throttle body adaption process is needed but not usually

Bad switch or relay or fuse maybe? Wiring in cars is the worst. A bad ground wire could mess the whole vehicle up. I would recommend checking any ground wires and make sure the contacts are good.

@@matt13ross yea you might want to wait and see if the new zr2 is really any good lots of times a new model has lots of issues I love my 21 zr2 when they are lifted and restyled, they look so much better than stock. I think the Silverado is a flop overall because people were expecting it to compete with the trx and the raptor, but it just didn't have the power and there was nothing outstanding about it . I am not thrilled with the body of the new Colorado zr2 its like a Minie Silverado and its just to square for my liking, but it does have a couple new fetchers I would like to have like the steering wheel and the tail gate storage. but all the soft finishes don't appeal to me because they will wear out quicker.

Change your battery! These cars are super sensitive to bad batteries. I have had a handful of Porsches. I had a Boxster with tons a electronic gremlins and I changed the battery and it all went away. I too trickle charged an old battery but thats not enough, moreso if you live in cold weather. Not sure it will fix your window issue but it did fix mine.

Matt, you could always separate you car build channel from the rest by saying Porsche instead of Porsch. lol 😂 I think your window problem is going to be the relay or possibly the console switch. If it's just one window acting up it's probably not the battery.

How would I check that locking unit?
@@matt13ross Not sure about checking it other than visually but it's located under the driver seat. Sometimes there is moisture/ corrosion and all kinds of issues can arise.
I'm planning on replacing the carpet so I'll check it out then.

Could your window just be a bad ground. Perhaps you're hitting the switch and it runs out long enough to short a fault. I'm a chiropractor, no mechanic, but perhaps run a short reliable ground to the switch and see
This could also be draining your battery?
I think the battery is just plain junk / old / tired. Even at fully charged, it doesn't have the juice.

@@matt13ross check the connector between the switch and door. . . I had an issue on an old Mercedes-Benz, turned out to be a connector under the floor door trim and carpet Maybe there's another connector between 🤷♂️. Also, check your ground from the motor. Are there any relays in the system?

The most expensive, frustrating way of diagnosing problems is throwing new parts at it. Look at the channel diagnosedan and take that approach with the window. Save yourself some time and frustration.
I've been diagnosing and asking many questions. I truly never thought it was regulator problem, but many told me otherwise. I swapped the switch in the middle console with the driver's side, no change. It's down to a wiring issue, BCM issue, or window motor issue.
Damn that door is giving a good fight.

The mezger engine sounds like a tractor at idle no matter what exhaust is on it.
