Daily Driven Porsche Full Detail Burned Paint Disaster!

- This Daily Driven 2006 Porsche 996 is owned by Mike Musto, from the show Big Muscle that features muscle car builds/stories/drives on RUclips. Mike also happens to be one of my closest friends in the world and I promised him IF he ever added a Porsche (aka non-muscle car) to his collection, I would give it a full detail. This is the story of me fulfilling my promise and discovering the burned paint disaster during our pre-detail, used car inspection, and subsequent deep cleaning. What I learned about paint restoration and "framing" will change the way I detail cars in the future. I was lucky enough to detail the Porsche 996 with my 2 closest car detailing buddies, Kevin Brown and Derek Bemiss. For those of you who have watched AMMO since 2011 on the Drive Channel and on AMMO NYC channel since 2012, you will know that there wasn't much car detailing content anywhere...no less RUclips. Today, there is so many car detailing channels that is can become overwhelming. Kevin and Derek (and Jason Rose) are the original detailers...before detailing was made a "thing" on RUclips. Ironically, the best or "most informational" content tends to be the least viewed or "watched". This is one of the videos that doesn't have the most disgusting car ever, moldy car interior, power washing mud, etc etc...but it does have tips and tricks that will change the way you think and approach your car or your car detailing business. In a day and age of "RUclips is King", I think those (Kevin, Derek, and Jason) who impart the most knowledge to the next generation, should be the ones treated as royalty. Learn and enjoy, as I did, from the masters. I promise you at least one of these techniques you will likely never seen before. Amazing stuff. Privileged to call them my friends.

Framing is one of those things that separates the top 10% of detailers from the other 90%. A customer won’t be able to pick out exactly what you did, but subconsciously (as said) they will notice the smaller detailers and overall be pleased with the work.
All those small details add up and make the car look new

@@fpswick8458 That's funny, I did the same thing, texted Kevin about the washer mod on a new machine and he called me back instead and chatted like an old friend. How do you top that kind of service?
What's the "washer mod" ?
8:27 Larry's suggestion of focusing on certain parts during each maintenance wash is something I've subconsciously done with my car but didn't consider it part of the framing process. Like he explains, I don't like to set aside a whole day to do everything in one go. Instead I split these little details up until the car is framed.
Framing is something that I've always done without realising, being unable to justify the cost of professional paint correction and only recently getting my own polishing machine; I always got compliments on how clean my car looked even with swirly paint despite only actually washing it once every month or two. Reviving the tyres and plastic / rubber trim makes the biggest difference for the very low cost, in my opinion.

This is by far my favorite video. This "framing" is what most cars out there need to look better. Adds to it, not all car enthusiasts have access to professional polish kits and tools. I guess framing is the biggest bang for the buck or time.

Its really useful for us weekend warriors and small side hustle detailers to see you guys struggle and have problems to over come; seeing you guys figure things out really helps us and our “spidey senses” when it comes to overcoming an issue
Another awesome video! That Porsche looks so much better, and I love the idea of "framing". It's a concept I never had a word for when I'm working on customers cars that *need* correction but they aren't springing for it. I've always referred to it as "dialing in" or "classic detailing". You guys are next level.

Having more fun than children in Disneyland, only an enthusiast or pro can appreciate this joy. Amazing turnaround for a “ burnt” car. Looked incredible and very instructive. I feel so much better now, last year when my wife was gone for a week , I did a wheels off, every nook and cranny detail on her Nissan Leaf that is a 2013 model. I can remember hours and hours of decontamination in door jams, removing hard water. Literally worked everyday for a full 7 days.
Buffing the rubber was absolutely a new one for me. I’ve sanded moldy rubber but this was just over the top. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ‘s for the production as well.

Detailing at a certain level becomes a skill not just a craft or a hobby, for me it's bordering on being a fine artist or a master craftsman, not everybody has the eye, the patience or the knowledge to do it to the highest level...great to watch.
Framing is actually the main thing I focus on. I just have a daily driver, and making sure the door jams, etc are clean and tidy is one of the nicest things. Especially because I dont really have the tools or skills to go to town polishing.
So paint being harder in the cold polished better…

I like the idea of framing and realized that i was doing it without even knowing. I don't have the proper tools or knowledge to polish the paint but what I have is elbow grease so whenever I clean my car I just focus on the little details and people say it looks like new even though the paint is in the same condition. Great content as ever. Also I've seen clay on the glass but never compound good idea.

Nice to see that I was actually framing my own cars for many years, but didn’t know it was called framing. That was taught to me by my brother , who at the time was cleaning his “new” 54 Buick.

It’s always a pain to remove the bra - you can try to pull it up on the other way; pull it away of you rather than pulling it towards you (it helps to avoid the painful blisters on the fingers). 😊

What a great topic to cover! I've had several people tell me that they don't want to bother with a detail of their car now that it's got some visible defect (paint burn, rust spots, paint chips, etc).

I've polished trim by hand and machine for two decades though not all trim react the same. Kevin is a marvel though, he's one of the best people on the planet and I learned alot from him.

The attention to detail. In small areas like the paint being so thin. The thought process that you-all did to come to agreement to just go back too detail ( frame work). Was very smart. Just watching how difficult it was to treat the area's that found difficult. Great job actually AWESOME job.
The heat from 4 halogen lamps was the first thing I thought of when he said the panel was warm. Need some high CRI LED work lights for Kevin’s mobile setup.

Love the term 'framing'. I found years ago a denture brush works great for all the nooks and crannies. It's never 'missed' unless the customer sees it. Great job guys.

Great job on that Porsche. Soon as a saw those halogen lights so close to the car I immediately thought that's whats heating up the panels and causing the polish to melt when applied to a hot surface.
Great video! Changed my thinking about the importance of paint perfection above all else - "framing" is a great concept! Inspired to do the same on my 1999 996 which ironically lived most of its life in LA and was not garaged. Its paint is um, less than perfect.
Probably the most valuable episode, for me, for quite some time. The paint on my car(s) are usually destroyed with rust here and there to boot but alot can be accomplished with just an intensive detailed cleaning.

Musto is such a cool dude. I loved his series on Drive. He knows his cars, especially muscle cars. And isn't afraid to put them to the test. You can tell he's friends with Farrah. Those guys are nut cases to a degree.
