- Snowball (TM) is a medium sulphur crested eleanora cockatoo. He is 11 years old and is a sanctuary bird at Bird Lovers Only Rescue Service, Inc. which is a 501c3 not for profit parrot rescue and sanctuary located in northwest Indiana.

@bigbadbigfoot Although Snowball enjoys dancing "with a partner (me)", he does his best dancing when there are at least a few people watching him. He will pause once in a while to see who is watching and once he realizes that he still has everyone's attention, he will dance even more enthusiastically. He LOVES being the center of attention as do many cockatoos.

@Tigerroux That's the one thing that always amazed us about Snowball. We've seen birds dance, but not always dance throughout an entire song. He will not only dance through an entire song, but he wants us to continue putting more tunes on so he can keep going.

His musicality is truly impressive! Very cute "rock star" bird! You can tell he feeds off of the attention he gets for his performance!
It is so interesting when he stops and listens for the beat again when he lost it. Then he starts again right on the beat. Amazing

Music is very therapeutic to Snowball. He is such a different bird when the music is on....he's happy. He truly enjoys and appreciates music. Birds have preferences for musical styles just as humans.

Awesome how he can actually keep a beat.
I love his intelligence, his natural gifts and how he just totally immerses himself in the music. A couple of times it seems as if he is also innovative, with the way he holds and moves his head. Snowball was never abused. His previous owners were very loving and caring.

I love Snowballs' left foot wave step. That is so cute! He has such a good sense of rhythm too!
Many birds spontaneously begin dancing (bobbing their heads, swaying to music, etc). No one taught Snowball how to dance. It would be interesting to see if any wild cockatoos in Australia would spontaneously begin bobbing or dancing if a boom box was continually played outside.

@Pmagg5 That's a blue and gold macaw in the background. He came to us frightened to death of people (we have no idea what happened to him in the past to make him so frightened of humans). He became used to those of us that he saw on a daily basis, but whenever a new face came in...hysterical screaming all over again. Just a general plea to those watching these videos: PLEASE BE GENTLE AND KIND TO BIRDS (ALL ANIMALS) - please do not frighten or become angry with them.

The blue and gold in the background is one of the abused macaws. He's coming around so very nicely...really warming up to us!!! I miss Gizmo terribly much...he was just adopted this last weekend.

We had to throw away the cage that the macaw came with because it was so filthy and corroded. Someone kindly donated the cage he was in as a temporary home until a new one could be purchased for him. A huge thank you to all those who donate to help these birds!

when he is swaying back and forth its keeping to the beat.. so awesome, when you actually think it about it, they probably get more of a rush from music then we do.. I bet they have heightened senses to the base and vibrations.

@MultiDantan Having a bird free in your home with supervision can work. However, when you have multiple birds (such as the number that are in our bird sanctuary) this is not possible. All birds do not get along well together. Some of the birds here have physical disabilities and they would be picked on and hurt by the birds without disabilities. They take turns coming out and keen supervision is needed with the disabled birds.

We used to have a Blue Front Amazon that my father taught to sing as if it were in an opera.
Prissy always seemed to do that with songs it really liked. For whatever reason, it even did that whenever I'd sing the first verse of "Wooden Ships" by Crosby, Stills and Nash.
