Nice video, I think you were referring to ours being whisper quite with heat sink lol. You said holmes is whisper quite, and didnt try ours to see if it made noise haha, all good. I'm glad videos like this are made, shows we don't inflate our numbers and do our best to provide a fantastic product for our fellow RC enthusiasts! Have fun everyone! P.S. In stock : )
Paul Grossman because when the reefs 555 first released, it had issues with the gears being too soft. An update was made but some people had to buy new gear sets.
Thanks for all the servo testing, great information 👍. I did just get a 555 for my TRX4 sport. Please note that a little filing is needed to fit. The performance is unbelievable to me! Thank you!!!
Just bought V3 and not tested yet, but only down side this time is its noise and height. Should inch up the servo to use in Shafty or MoA. I have two T4 and one T5, they are good in truggy or scale crawler.
Have you considered any of the bluebird servos to test? They’ve got an impressive lineup. I just put a BLS-3006 into my rock Rey, the thing is absurdly quick! My buggy handles like never before. Their BLS-H51b might give even that 777 a run for its money. I just found out about bluebird not long ago but have been impressed for performance vs price. I’d be interested to see how their servos actually stack up on the bench.
I run my Raw500 on the internal BEC on my HW1080 at 7.4v. I ran that setup with my heavy TRX4 Sport without any brown outs or weakening and now that combo is in my Element (TRX4 now has a Triple7). External BEC’s aren’t needed with the 1080 unless maybe you are running a lot of lights and shifting under load on a regular shiftable TRX4.
my confusion lies in the receiver ....my mamba x will put out 8.4 volts but most receivers only allow 6v and i did burn a radiolink receiver up once by over stressing a servo which was my fault but still seems like a lot of amp load on those lil things....liked as always brother
Yo shadetree read my comment above you lmao 🤣 I almost brought you up with your 777 servo , crawlers are cool people but I get kick how cheap and frugal they can be , oh and stop thinking rc juice doesn't have the motors for 8s rigs thsts not true im going order one from them , I broke a arm on my outcast 8s but probably landed on quad nerf bar so still not trucks fault, jennys wants 75 bucks for the set and ofcourse all rpm ones are on back order , I may have buy exb kraton so I have parts 😆 🤣
@@paulclancy2404 i saw that on their rcjuice website the other day and yea reefs cost a lil extra but they stand by their products unlike some 50 dollar ebay special at least you have someone to contact lol
Thanks for the videos! But it would be nice if you tried not to cover the amps while you are making the pulls. For me they are as important as the weight that the servos can pull and often your hand covers that number...

I have a traxxas Land Rover defender all stock? If I go with the Reefs 555? Do I need any additional upgrades? Thanks for anyone who responds to this message.
@@RCReviewChannel uh oh. I have 3 of them. I did burn one of them out, but I was running at full 4s, which apparently shouldn't be done? They gave me half off a new one.
@@leereed219 Our servos state on the website and the case they are a 14.8v maximum voltage. You and @rcreview both fried them by running higher voltage at full 4s 16.8v which is not covered by warranty, but we went ahead and got you a replacement at half price. 👍
Rc Review did experience an issue with 2 of our servos, One of the servos they accidentally turned the power supply voltage up to 18v and fried our servo. The other servo had a software issue and was only producing 76% power so the torque numbers were reading lower than they should. Otherwise when the servos were ran within the correct voltage range they have zero issues or failures 👍
And along comes the Turnigy 959 for $35 that has the same output at 7.4v! LOL Seriously though, I have a Reef on my main rig and love it, but that 959 just doesn't quit!
@@RCReviewChannel Oh really? That's good to know! I've seen a few of the 959 specifically punch WAY above their rating on a rig very much like yours. Exocaged RC's channel has a system just like yours except for the power supply. At 8.4v the 959 put out almost 1000 in/oz! It didn't like that voltage though. Not at all. LOL I consider the 959 a special beast though...and never in stock. Sigh... The Hobbyking 15298 puts out 20kg dead nuts. I consider HK and Turnigy the same brand as they are both HK brands. Sadly though HobbyKing seems to be in it's last days. The inventory keeps getting small and smaller. :( Love your content, thanks for the reply!
It's not really a fair comparison, as the Reefs ($126) is in fact $30-45 more expensive, as you will need a BEC to run it, where the Holmes ($120) runs directly off of the battery. You're basically not getting a 555 in a truck for less than $150. Add to that the fact that the SHV500v3 is literally twice as fast, and the edge in this pairing clearly goes to the Holmes servo. End of the day, a hundred and fifty bucks for a 0.17/0.20 travel time is REAL steep. Do I need those extra few ounces of torque? Dunno. But I'll take sub-0.10sec travel every time.
I agree I like the speed even more than the crazy torque, 250 to 400 all I need long as .08 transit , but you can run without bec if using castle hw even the 1080 goes up 8.2
It depends on what you care about most. Both crank over 700 in torque but he Holmes is much faster. Personally, I value the extra speed. The Holmes doesn't rely on a BEC, which is a plus for me. I don't mind the noise. I have the Holmes in my SCX10 III and the Reefs in my TRX4. Both are great servos but I prefer the Holmes.
@@karlvorndran2996 yea but the reefs takes less than 1/2 the voltage to make it and its dead silent. That constant grinding sound would likely drive me crazy. The speed doesn't bother me at all. Everything i have is a crawler and servos half as fast would still be fine. Look up the specs on the servo axial put in their 6x6. Thats a terribly slow servo but it still works ok.
Joshua Howell It’s not a direct comparison because the Holmes was designed to be powered direct where the Reefs was designed to be powered with a BEC so the voltage difference is irrelevant. RC cars make noise and most of the time your head is not right next to the servo like it is in the video so it really is a non-issue. If you want a very powerful and quiet servo but don’t mind that it is very slow and needs a BEC, get the Reefs. If you want a fast servo without the need of a BEC and don’t mind a little noise, get the Holmes. Well right now, get whichever you can find in-stock. Again, you can’t got wrong with either servo.
@@karlvorndran2996 yeah they're both awesome servos. And yeah, you're right! You better pick up whatever you can find right now! I personally run becs on all of my rigs. I like being able to turn the voltages up and down just messing around with stuff!
