Thank you for watching the video, It means a lot to me . I will leave this pinned message here to REMIND everyone that i do not have TELEGRAM and there is no GIVEAWAY. Those you see are bot scams . Keep yourself safe and know that I would not ask for your info. ❤ ❤
The video was partially inspired by the Gladbeck hostage crisis in 1988. The media totally mis-handled the situation and even did interviews with the hostages and hostage-takers. Was a huge scandal back then and was noted as the darkest hour of journalism in Germany since WW2.
The song is about the relationship and interaction between the band and the fans. How the fans are prepared to give total loyalty and admiration to the band and how the band cant understand that.
The song is about a band's relationship to their fans. The video turns it into a commentary on the ability of those with will and ruthlessness to manipulate the media. As always, Flake is the butt of the jokes along the way. ;)
The song is about the media's tendency to glorify violence. There's a violent bank robbery with the implication of multiple killings of bank workers and customers followed by the senseless suicide killing of all the hostages while the rest of the criminals are greeted like heroes by the media and fans. The award Till holds up at the end is the Golden Kamera, which annually honors the best in German TV. The release of the song was almost completely overlooked in the US as it came out on 10 September 2001 and was overtaken by the biggest violent media event of the decade the next day.
I like the scene where Till as the leader of the bank robbers gives a press conference and after the cut all the media representatives are lying dead on the floor. It's also the press outside the building answering Till's questions, do you see me?, do you hear me? etc., to which he says, I don't understand you. For me a clear statement of the band, that they feel misunderstood by the media.
Im Beifall untergehen has a double meaning it's a phrase meaning to drown in applause but der Untergang ( The Fall of..) or untergehen/untergegangen als means something like "has fallen" /falling. So it can mean they want applause that is extremely loud/ made by many but it can also mean they don't care about getting caught as long as they get attention/fame... the video is a reference to the Gladbeck Hostage Crises in 1988 where the Kidnappers/Killers were treated like superstars by the press.
The song Ich will deals with the true criminal case of the Gladbeck hostage drama where 2 bank robbers criss-crossed with vehicles were on the run with their hostages and where journalists acted voyeuristically and hindered or even torpedoed police work! It's about sensational journalism on certain occasions! The Gladbeck criminal case happend August 1988 in West Germany,Northrhine-Westphalia in the city Gladbeck!
Paul Landers said at an Interview. "We want to make a song to get connect to the fans..and the other bands make stuff like -say hey, say ho- and the audience response, we want to have some more and so we made "Ich will" and it works" The video came later and connect to the Gladbeck Drama.
"I Want" I want you to trust me I want you to believe me2 I want to feel your glances I want to control every heart beat
I want to hear your voices I want to disturb your peace I want you to see me good I want you to understand me
I want your phantasy I want your energy I want to see your hands I want to drown in your cheers
Do you see me? Do you understand me? Do you feel me? Do you hear me? Can you hear me? We hear you Can you see me? We see you Can you feel me? We feel you I don’t understand you
I want
We want you to trust to us We want you to believe us everything We want to see your hands We want to drown in your cheers - yes
Can you hear me? We hear you Can you see me? We see you Can you feel me? We feel you I don’t understand you
Can you hear us? We can hear you Can you see us? We can see you Can you feel us? We can feel you We don't understand you
Others have explained plenty about the song and video, but just to add: Before this song Rammstein had NO fan interaction song, so a "call and response" pattern like this opened that connection up.
The premise was a "performance art" piece in the guise of a bank robbery. The "crew" being portrayed didn't intend to actually steal anything, they did it for the media attention...a show within a show. This was meant to parody and allude to the Gladbeck incident which went from serious robbery to media circus, as mentioned by other commenters.
Hola guapa 😉 A lot has already been written about the meaning of the song, but if I remember correctly, when it was released it was said that it was also about short-term fame, for which many people were willing to do or give everything (regardless of whether it was positive or negative). Probably not much different today, you just have to look at the TikTok phenomenon.
With this video, Rammstein settled accounts with the German political public a little at the time. The band wasn't exactly perceived and treated kindly by them. - Absolutely great!
Verstehe Du nicht... I've been following Rammstein for probably 20 years, and while I love their music, the music videos are always like little movies. Wannsinn. Ich liebe.
I wonder what Rammstein spends on average to make one of their video? They literally are like freakin mini movies that play off of the song! I love the Amerika video.
They never intended to rob the bank. They wanted media attention to get known and make it big. At the beginning of the video you can see them receiving some TV award. The idea could have come from the failed bank robbery in Gladbeck where the press showed how ruthless they can be.
as a german speaker i can confirm it is impossible to understand everything thats going on at the first time. Rammstein songs are like onions, so many layers hidden in the lyrics and the videos!
It's pretty much the same meaning like the recent "Make Me Famous" from Kim Dracula. Media loves crime so much that even the criminals get a VIP status sometimes. The songs itself still is a band-fan love song ;)
i want control your heart beat ;) but yes even for germans its difficult to interprete, like steven mentioned, there was the gladbeck hostage as an idea for this song

On the one hand, it is about the connection with one's own fans. On the other hand, there is a true story in Germany. The story has the content that after a raid by the persecution of the Criminals, the press has even contributed that these criminals have even conducted an interview in the pedestrian zone. This hindered the work of the police and then led to the death of the hostages. Not a good idea of the press and The police. The other story is the fans' loyalty to Rammstein. The
The song is about people seeking publicity, politics. It's also a song about lust of power and totalitarianism. The politics only wants to rule, not to satisfy the real needs of society. As usual great reaction from you Biscuit and love your fantastic rhythmic dance movements!
The video has many parallels to the hostage-taking in Gladbeck, where two bank robbers robbed a bank and then drove through northern Germany with hostages and the press always went directly to the hostage-takers so that the police could not intervene. Nope. This song is about carnivorous media, and their allegiance to them. Rammstein to this day is having hard times with the junk media.
My wife says that's my favorite RAMMSTEIN song, so she always makes it loud in the car because I sing along! 😂
