Also, in the future, don't worry too much about having a horde base. If you don't have time to make or modify a place to defend from the horde, just go to a structure that can easily outlast the horde and camp on its roof.

Good video, used some of these POI's myself in my own playthroughs. For something like the old creepy church and the issue with zombies going into 'rage' mode because the drop is insufficient I tend to put down 'scratching posts' below the drop - just simply poles that they can whack on rather than the walls holding you up:)

Oooo! I actually have a suggestion to make! In playing our joint game, my wife and I have found that the O'Really's Auto makes a great impromptu emergency horde base well into mid-game, that can be prepped in mere moments.
There is a ladder on the outside leading to the roof. Knock out the bottom two sections to prevent zombie access, then go up top and kill the zombie that tends to spawn up there. On the same side of the roof as the external ladder, is a hatch in the roof, with a ladder to the inside. Open the hatch, then remove the top two sections of ladder, which will largely stop the zombies from getting up to you, while bringing their heads within easy melee range.
    You're basically done.
If you have time and resources to do so, you can build a small fighting position at the hatch which can keep vultures off you, but otherwise they can just be killed when they show up with little trouble.
Having a portable turret of some kind, or another person is ideal, but it works just fine solo, even with Direwolves and such coming in. The structure is concrete, steel and extensive. When the zombies get to the top of the now lowered ladder, they start trying to beat through steel, while you beat through their skulls. The Direwolves just stay below and do the same to little effect, while making easy targets from the top of the ladder. Even Demolition zombies can be defended against from this location solo. It's not easy at that point, but it's good to know it can be done in a pinch.
If you need to buy yourself a moment to reload or repair a weapon and things threaten to get out of control, simply shut the hatch to obtain the time you need.

That Red Barn Bed and Bath POI is already set up to handle an early game horde just fine. Just had to complete the run from the barn over to the house window, knock out the house interior stairs and was good to go. Still straightened out their approach to the beam; gave them a flight of stairs from the second floor up to it; and let them make their own doorways into the barn; but it was fine in a pinch. Didn't look as cool as running a ramp around the silo, but function over form early game every time in my case. Form comes later and I prefer to keep them at arm's reach as opposed to the up close and personal fight windows others might prefer. :)
The POIs in this game are amazing. Their new POI artist is a master of those voxel shapes. I've made a game of converting existing POIs, especially the newer, because they're so much more architecturally interesting than a box on stilts. :) Will have to get into designing my own eventually, but...the existing POIs are amazing.

These are fun designs for a temp horde base. I have to admit, im not a personal fan of making a temp horde base. I prefer to make a horde base that can be upgraded over time and added on. So a basic base for the first week, but by the time the rads show up, you have added on all the bells and whistles needed to take down anything. You arent stuck reinforcing a silo hoping its enough to tank any demo blasts or whatever. That said, for a new player who probably wont be getting that far, these are great ideas for simple setups for the first few weeks. By the time they ARE getting that far they will have enough experience to figure out how to make their own long term base.

    • @gdgd5194
      @gdgd5194 2 месяца назад +1

@@gdgd5194 Well yeah but a problem with these early bases is, cop explosions and demo blasts and even just the spitters could cause a lot of issues and require redesigning the base somewhat to compensate. And a few of them, as he stated, arent designed to deal with the dogs and such which will chew holes in your base to try and bring it down.

The best early base we found was a POI that was a power sub station. We broke the ladder on the transformer. Added a ladder to a near by fence for the players to climb and jump accross to the transformer. We had initially had put down a ton of spikes to protect the transformer but first night we discovered something. Standing on the power lines for a good view the zombies could not figure out pathing to our position. They beat on neighboring fences, unrelated buildings, really anything but what we are actually standing on.
We break a few wood spike per horde but really the base is breaking a couple ladder sections and adding a way in. We are 3 horde nights in and the base in almost entirely intact.

I feel the snow is more difficult than the wastelands because there's more fast animals. The wastelands is only worse if you're traveling in the wilderness due to land mines.

For the crypt base at the end, would you just punch a whole under your zombie kill point into the crypt so they have to run all the way back up? also a free grenade pit or moly

As I commented on the last vid, Direwolves especially feel too low-tier for how they specifically function among the zombies and when they start showing up in gamestage, and they're the biggest pain when it comes to horde base design because of how itchy their trigger is to start rage mode it feels like.

I've been playing 7D2D pretty much since day 1, but I tend to always do the same thing :D
At one point, me and my friends did a sort of castle as a horde base and that was awesome, but when I'm playing on my own, I kind of do the same thing all the time.
Now in my 1.0 play I do my take on your tower horde base. We'll see how that'll go :P

I love the enthusiasm for showing these bases, but deep down we all know that the best horde base remains the Silo PoI that you picked in your Frostbite series :p
Jokes aside, great and efficient designs. The only variation I would suggest is that regardless of the place I pick, I always try to make my fighting position's ground as narrow as possible, like with a 0.05 horizontal pilar on which only one or two zombies can stand at the same time. Very easy to knock them down and it limits the piling up in front of your defense blocks

First of all, thank you for your high-quality, and helpful videos!
Why everybody built elevated horde bases?
Can you make a video with ground-level horde bases?
I like to use a square (3x3 or 5x5) horde base, with one open side, where I put bars and railings at the bottom, and poles on the 2nd and 3rd height.
There are a ton of ways you can upgrade this base. You can add more layers of walls around it, and put electric fences on the front side.
It can also be turned into an AFK base, if you put some dart traps and smg turrets.
I hate elevated bases. They are hard to build, and you always need alternative paths.
Ground-base bases are easier to build, and you only have to worry about the walls around you, but if you do it right, you don't have to worry. Just don't make the wall around you stronger than the side you want the zombies to come from.
But, anyway, I'd like to see what you suggest for a ground-level horde base.

Also, I don't like to convert existing POIs to horde bases.
I like to build my own horde bases.

    • @chrishubbard64

Elevated bases are done because it restricts how the zombie horde can come for you. Its easier to create a path they have to follow in order to defend it properly. You can focus all your defenses on that one or two paths in order to more efficiently obliterate them rather than waiting for them to randomly run around your cube base and appear at the front hatch or whatever. Also, a basic elevated base is simple. You just build 4 blocks higher or however high you want it to be, and make your own path to your pillbox.
It has the additional strength of allowing for breathing room in hordes. You saw in this video how he would knock the zombies off the railing and force them to come back around right? With a horde base on the ground they will pile up at your entrance until they die. It makes things a lot higher stress because with the raised base, especially the ones with the pole walkway, the zombies literally CANT dogpile you, they fall off and have to run back up, letting you stab club or shock them 1-2 at a time. MUCH easier to survive.

    • @gdgd5194
      @gdgd5194 2 месяца назад +1

Elevated is good because you can make a gap between some platform for zombies to come to and in case they break through, you can jump on your main base and defend from there too and let them fall into the gap you made. Since it is elevated, they will come at you again after waking up instead of bashing walls.
On ground, if something fails - you're gone. Unless you dig a moat around your base, which is even more bothersome than building an elevated base.

You said It wrong, you HAVE TO make the wall around you stronger than your intended path for them. Otherwise they'll find that path is actually harder to reach you and will start attacking from where you don't expect them.
I personally like to keep bases as simple and not cheesy as possible, and always ground-level. My current design is a 8x8 cube with plates over my walls (double-wall) and then catwalks with railings inside the cube, between me and the crafting stations and storage (the railings let you interact with them and, since it goes inside the cube and they cover 2 and 3 sides, you need few blocks making it a great and cheap way to make an effective 3-layer wall). So the real area I'm fighting is a 4x4, but so strong that I can add a double protection and Z's will still come where I want them to.
For later hordes I just add 8 dart traps (2 on each side, 2 above and 2 below the entrance), with a wire trap and a pair of electric fences inside the wall. Incredibly easy to build and maintain, cheap, not cheesy, ground-level and durable. Also it's so small you can "add" it to the corner in most PoIs, so you can benefit from the GameStage bonus without actually using the PoI structure at all. My current one is literally inside the pool in Dr's Karen House T5 PoI 😂

@@JoséManuelAndrino-p2e I'd avoid plates and use full cubes because zombies have wall hacks if you use plates and will target you :d
