    The origin of the phrase describes the world-famous Mary Anning paleontologist/fossil hunter and fossil seller. She sold fossil sea shells, ammonites and many sea creatures to tourists who visited the beach of Lyme Regis England. The fossils came from the cliffs , they were exotic extinct fossils which the tourists loved! Mary was shown in the movie Ammonite wich was a poor movie of her shown as a lesbian which is fictional Hollywood drama.
