    True story.
I was recently walking the trails behind my home (I live in a small town) and was walking with my night vision, using it to look around at things just testing it out. Well about 20 minutes into my walk I flipped up my nods and brought up my thermal. Not more than 20 yards from me there was an entire heard of deer bedded down. I didn’t see them with my nods and I have a top quality setup. They were holding perfectly still in about waist deep grass. I’m sure if I used some form of illumination I’d have seen them but that defeated the purpose for civilian use if shtf. With the thermal, I could see them all the way back from the trial head when I went back.
Nods for admin, nods for walking/nav. Thermal for detection.
I also thought how odd it was that the deer had to know that a human couldn’t see them in full darkness as any other time I can’t get within 50 yards or so, they won’t let you. Dusk, dawn, twilit, even a bright night, they get up and start walking away as soon as you get within twice that distance. On a moonless night about 1:00 A.M. they were just content to watch me walk right on by.

Dual helmet mounted MH25s are effective for land nav, but nowhere near as good for nav as a pair of WP tubes. You also can't see through a windshield with thermal, but you can with NV. For coyotes, hogs, or other varmints the difference between thermal and NV is night and day -- even with the best and brightest WP tubes. NV shows you everything. Thermal shows you what's important.

....WELL, FROM MY EXPERIENCE, IN USING A iPHONE ATTACHABLE "FLIR" CAMERA,... THE "FLIR(THERMAL) IMAGES CAN "SEE THRU THE WALLS" SO TO SPEAK, AND REVEAL HOT, OR COLD OBJECTS, WHICH MAY NOT BE "VISIBLE" TO NORMAL VISIBLE LIGHT OPTICS, (OR EYES)...

Thermal is a powerful technology at about 10 yards. Total game changer at about 10 yards. But the shortcomings of thermal are significant as It cannot see through ordinary obstacles such as a wall, nor can it penetrate the water. I tried tracking fish once but failed. Maybe try using night vision someday but I do not have the gear right now

10 yards! What! Look at ATN thermal. Some units have 1,000+ range.

Many thermals you can see a mouse running through a field at 100 yards and a raccoon in a three at 300 yards. Many also have a human size detection range of 2000+ yards, but yes thermal can’t see through water… don’t take it scuba diving with you 😂 You have a big advantage hunting with thermal and an advantage navigating with night vision. You will see animals at night with a thermal that you would never see with night vision. To say that thermal is only a powerful technology at 10 yards… I kindly and respectfully disagree.

100% isn't amazing how these dudes will do anything, doesn't matter as long as a price tag is attached, then stand back & act like they give a flying.

So basically the winner is going to be able to hear the builds a night vision mounted unit that uses both infrared and standard night Vision effectively but don't worry it's not like our government will screw it up and then try to give it to the lowest bidder to build renewing our current situation have him build it in China
