Imagine what that thing would look like in the daytime to your naked eye, and that’s what it would look like to your naked eye through the night vision.

They are very good for the price. There are a few firearms channels that will be releasing videos in the next month or two including tactical advisor, extruded Shoots, gunplay.tv and a few others
2000-3000? Try again. That price range still gets your cheap NVG. A decent set of 'bottom of the barrel' Harris NVG's as a mono is going to cost at least 5k, period, end of story. If you are bridging or using 18s, 31s or similar series, you're looking at no less than 7k, but again, scraping the bottom of the barrel. You can spend all the way up to nearly 50k for civvy setups. Tier 1 operators (cannot purchase as civvies) cost 15k more than that.
Give it another 2 years and it will be amazing to see where digital NV is at. If we're all still around by then of course with the way things are going. At $495, the NVG30 is hard to pass up. Biggest downside is I've heard the mounting solution is proprietary to the company and not compatible with most mounts on the market. Hopefully the company changes that in the next version. Also I couldn't find any information on their site on how to get the NVG30 with the 940nm vs the 850nm it comes with except that it mentions it being possible in the description. If they add an option to get with the 940nm, I might just buy one.
There are limits. To compete with analog, digital will need both bigger sensors and objective lenses. Both cost more money and there are other drawbacks. You need both to gather enough light to make an image. Now adding in thermal ... and that price is coming down ... fusion.

I can say as far as bang for your buck, the nvg30 can't be beat. The size and weight are great, the built in IR is nice, the lag is barely noticeable, the picture in picture zoom and color filters are awesome, and the ability to not only record, but also run it off of an external battery pack which can double as a counterweight is excellent. My only complaint is that it seems like there should be a way to adjust the ocular lens to bring the screen closer to your eye so there's less unused black dead border around the screen and the body could be a little more durable, maybe using a fiber nylon polymer material similar to what Magpul uses for its products.
Thats a great idea! There does seem like a lot of dead space around the screen that could be better utilized. The manufacturer is aware of my channel and will be scanning these comments for feedback and I'm putting togther a list of ideas that might be worth considering in future device upgrades.

Most folks will buy the NVG30 because it's affordable, and gets the job done. Is it going to be as good as the PVS14? No. But realistically, you don't expect it to be; at that price-point. Still, I enjoyed this comparison video, and was the 50th Like on it.

I think I'm still going to grab a PVS14 or a Jeri 14 at some point but this is a great way to get started and have a backup for an analog system. Thanks again. Liked and subscribed.
Great video! Bought a NVG-10 off your site, which I love...may jump to the NVG-30 at some point...the PVS-14 is probably never going to be an option for me...thank you!
Something never mentioned in any of the NVG30 reviews I've seen. Does the NVG30 have an ocular diopter adjustment? I have had cataract implants done and need the adjustment (NO uncorrected 'near-vision). TIA
Can't the PVS14's spot the nvg30's due to it's IR illuminator? And won't it make the nvg30 completely obsolete if you turn that illuminator off to prevent spotting?
you obviously didn't listen to the video all that well, especially the part right in the beginning where he clearly says he's testing these both with illuminators OFF so that it's a fair comparison. So the pictures in the video for the NVG30 are with the illuminator off.
I still have my 1st gen Russian tube. I was into night vision before night vision was cool. It worked - ish (for what it was) I also owned an OG PVS-7 and that thing was great (for what it was) I now own an NVG30 and am exceptionally happy and completely surprised for what this unit can do. It’s proof that year after year, digital is coming ever closer to making the choice toward blurring the difference. I have been walking almost nightly with the NVG30 without illumination (for the most part) Will I be driving my quad at 40mph through the woods with this? No. But for using it in and around my home and forest, for fun and security, absolutely. I have a rifle mounted IR Illuminator/laser (TLR VR) and as soon as I’m able (recovering from cancer), I’ll post some videos on my barely used RUclips channel. I’ll mount the TLR on a pistol and demo it from my perspective of ownership. The mount by the way, is not perfect, but perfectly serviceable. Lastly, there is supposed to be an app, but I can’t find it. If NVG30 ever developed an app where you can program from your phone, or tablet, that would make this unit just about perfect - especially for the price. Really lastly, I’d also love at some point to pair this with a thermal. I’m almost wondering if adding thermal 1x to a bridge, might make the NVG30 close to perfect for home security.
this is "budget" digital night vision... does that mean that higher end digital night vision would work almost as well as analog NV? or is all digital night vision considered "budget"...
I really want the NVG30 tested against a Sionyx Aurora. I'm sure the Opsin is better but would it be as good as the Aurora or even better? It is certainly better suited to outdoor use.
Thanks for comparison and review! Loved your setup. I Researched NV options recently and quickly started justifying L3Harris 10k+ options b4 I stopped myself. Wanted something i could quick mount co-witness with current riflescope too. I have nothing now. Will research NVG30, tho, for home overwatch/civil unrest applications. Would be interesting to have simultaneous NVG on open eye and co-witness with scope. It this price point, it would be feasible if they are able to withstand AR-level recoil. Next…suppression. 😂
How much IR bleed does the NVG30 give off with IR on from other NVGs PoV? Also should we wait out for 50-60fps latency in your opinion? Very interested!
I only run mine on lowest setting, my pvs 14 buddies say they can't see the splash until they can actually see the bulb, the bulb itself is still kinda bright to other NV units. And with ir turned up all the way... Different story 😂 Definitely noticeable to other NV units

Nvg30 for trails and peeping tom while camping at camp crystal lake. Pvs14s for when shiznit gets real. Just join the military and you will say, worry about till it happens and you never want "military grade" lol
Is there a way to bridge them on a standard NV bridge? I have a high FOM l3 Harris pvs14 and will be bridging it with thermal. But i think it would be nice to have something like this as an extra since its so damn cheap.
Would you consider making a video to to show how to upgrade the IR illuminator to 940 NM, I think this platform has a lot of potential to be even better, especially if the CMOS sensor can detect even higher wavelength IR that analog can't pickup.
Though the nvg 30 has some downfalls the price is just way more attainable to me. Maybe one day I'll be able to afford a PS 14 or better but that is five times the price that's crazy. Hell you can even buy two of these and have a backup unit completely if your main unit broke and that's still under half!
No IR signature unless your IR eliminator is active. Definitely need to get protective covers for your lens. Its built pretty stout but I would not trust it.

Thanks for all the info dude. You the man US. Thanks to your videos I made the choice to get a NVG30 and I’m extremely happy about my investment. I do have a question though. My NVG30 came with a 2600mAh button top battery and I wanted to get more batteries for it but there’s so many choices out there. Should I go with a flat top or button top battery? Should I stick with 2600mAh or can I use the batteries with a higher mAh number? I’m a complete noobie when it come to these new dangles battery types.
I have also looked into spare batteries. One thing I can tell you is do not use a 18650 with the built in usb-c port. They will work but they're too long to screw the cap on completely. Chose a flattop battery.
So, quick question. If i was to run the NVG30 mono, is the battery rechargeable while still employed inside the device? If so, is there a possibility of extending its lifetime utilizing an external charging pack, similar to something for a cell phone?
IMHO, Digital NV and Analog NV cannot be compared. Analog is a whole other league. It's like comparing a toy car to a real car. Some toy cars (digital night vision) might be better than other toy cars, but there is no toy car that can be as good as the cheapest real car (analog night vision). Hopefully that analogy made sense. But it is true that for someone who doesn't need to go to war; only needs simple night vision, without having to break the bank, the NV30 could be a really great choice.
Don't buy the Night Operator. I did, there are defects on the product and they want me to pay to return it to them even though I took a shipping insurance. The problem was reported the day of the receipt. Terrible after sales service

They can even be made true color with a filter wheel that spins in front of the detector.
I was going to buy one of these a few months ago when I first found your website, but the helmet was on backorder, sad face.
Today I pulled the trigger.
Side note I have a DNV scope on my nighttime rifle and use the crap outta it.
Thanks for your order Steve! All packed up and will ship out today.
@@UrbanSurvivor Got it! It's everything I expected it would be.
I am super excited to try it out! While it's not a pvs14... it is better than nothing! Plus, you're right I can have it as an extra for when I do get a pvs14!
I wonder if the NVG30 uses a Sony Starvis sensor. I want to use the Gen2 Starvis series in a few products.
Yes it does . Not sure what chip but its a starvis 2. Im planning on building my own nvg with an analog starvis 2 chip. By the way the nvg30 is absolutely worth it
Fantastic video - I just ordered one from you as well as a few other items. You hit all the points and despite selling the NVG30 you make a genuine effort tp be unbiased in your review. I think I'm still going to grab a PVS14 or a Jeri 14 at some point but this is a great way to get started and have a backup for an analog system. Thanks again. Liked and subscribed.
Thanks for the order Jordan! Got your helmet and the P4 shipping out today and the NVG30 will go out next week sometime!
@@UrbanSurvivor Damn that was fast! Thank you!
TIA
Yes it does have diopter adjustments!
If only you watched the video... 😂😂😂
Thank you. I was under the impression that all budget night vision was ir. Im gonna consider buying these.
Yea most digital devices have the option to run without IR turned on, but most of them don't perform to well.
I still have my 1st gen Russian tube. I was into night vision before night vision was cool. It worked - ish (for what it was)
I also owned an OG PVS-7 and that thing was great (for what it was)
I now own an NVG30 and am exceptionally happy and completely surprised for what this unit can do. It’s proof that year after year, digital is coming ever closer to making the choice toward blurring the difference.
I have been walking almost nightly with the NVG30 without illumination (for the most part)
Will I be driving my quad at 40mph through the woods with this?
BTW the Aurora is going for $399 now. That's less than the NVG30.
@@billysherman2702aurora image quality is terrible
I've got an Opsin headed my way to do some head to head testing. Hopefully will have a video on that early next month.
NVG30 vs Sionyx Ospin ?
Got an Opsin headed my way for a NVG30 vs Opsin comparison!
Great video! Well done! Thank you, K.
Glad you enjoyed it!
How much IR bleed does the NVG30 give off with IR on from other NVGs PoV? Also should we wait out for 50-60fps latency in your opinion? Very interested!
Alooooooot, because it’s a powerful ir light
I only run mine on lowest setting, my pvs 14 buddies say they can't see the splash until they can actually see the bulb, the bulb itself is still kinda bright to other NV units. And with ir turned up all the way... Different story 😂 Definitely noticeable to other NV units
NVG30 looks more reliable and pleasing and natural to the eyes imo.
Agreed! I do prefer the viewing experience on the NVG30.
The recording through the pvs14 is very over exposed, in reality it will look much better than the NVG30 and with no latency
@@GoldenDuck0 This, my white phosphor pvs-14 looks way more clear than this. There's no way digital is more pleasing to the eye when you're the one looking through it and it's not a recording
Yeah they come with dovetail shaped adapters so they can be bridges. There's a basic bridge on goodnitegear.com but more options are coming soon.
How does the nvg30 compare to the sionyx pro?
Would you consider making a video to to show how to upgrade the IR illuminator to 940 NM, I think this platform has a lot of potential to be even better, especially if the CMOS sensor can detect even higher wavelength IR that analog can't pickup.
Planning on getting the cheap nvg30 to start getting reps before commiting to a pvs14
when will these be back in stock?
They are in stock right now but only a handful left... Next batch will ship in a few weeks.
I want a digital device for the mere fact i dont ahve to worry about ruining a $2k plus tube
So hows the robustness... When playing in dirt or branches does it stand up with the pvs14
Though the nvg 30 has some downfalls the price is just way more attainable to me. Maybe one day I'll be able to afford a PS 14 or better but that is five times the price that's crazy. Hell you can even buy two of these and have a backup unit completely if your main unit broke and that's still under half!
Is the NVG30 is good for airsoft, like if someone shoot at the lense or Ir signature?
No IR signature unless your IR eliminator is active. Definitely need to get protective covers for your lens. Its built pretty stout but I would not trust it.
You can pick up a sacrificial lens for the NVG30. It fits the same size as ones made for PVS14.
Analog night vision is better sure and compared to it digital is just okay. But having "okay" night vision is better than having no night vision
How can I get these in canada
You can order from GoodNiteGear
What generation analog is that ? Gen 2 or gen 2+
2+
What I wanna see is a guy with pvs vs a guy with nvg30 and see how they can stack up and if it really is a good buy, I purchased one and I’m jsut worried the real tube guys are gonna spot me immidiatly because of needing ir
When did u get the pvs 14 white phos for 2500$?? I just asked them and they said for that budget to look for used tubes lol
Was just a few months ago... Seems like the prices are jumping up on analog really quickly.
@@UrbanSurvivor for sure I’ve noticed that as well. Thanks brother
Can you do a test of the nvg30 vs pvs69?
I will look into this... Do you know of a good place to pick up a pvs69?
@@UrbanSurvivor not really. The guy that makes them really overpriced them and has a long wait time. They’re supposedly relatively easy to build but I haven’t built one myself. I’m sure you could find someone willing to build you one 🤷🏻♂️ parts cost should be around 300-350
Are there any lense protectors for the nvg 30 cuz if I buy this I’ll use it for airsoft also do you sell this on Amazon?
Sheesh bro! Slow down! I haven't even got my NVG30 for review yet and you've already got your WP review out! 🔥🔥
Incredible work. I need details on that recoding mount/rig 🔥
@@stevenwilkinson8373 thanks for the tip, I appreciate it.
But it is true that for someone who doesn't need to go to war; only needs simple night vision, without having to break the bank, the NV30 could be a really great choice.
not saying the nighfox prowl is better but it has some better qualities
Don't buy the Night Operator. I did, there are defects on the product and they want me to pay to return it to them even though I took a shipping insurance. The problem was reported the day of the receipt. Terrible after sales service
If you dont need an IR light to see this is good. Dont wanna give away anything
Ill take thermal .
Definitely much better.
Well done❤
walking with the nvg30 is easier than walking with the pv14? Thanks you :D
Its easier walking with the PVS14, primarily because the field of view is wider/taller. You have to angle the NVG30 down a bite more to see your feet. However if you are in open terrain and not worried about stumbing over something, they wuld be pretty similar.
