1954 Chevrolet Bel Air 540 Big Block Build Project
Mike Walker invested 20 years into building his 1954 Chevy Bel Air
All of us are aware of a buddy who has spent years, maybe decades, to get his hot rod just right. In fact, each of us has probably spent way too many years trying to get our favorite ride on the road, but in the end we all believe it was time well spent.
Mike Walker of Wenatchee, Washington, developed a liking for the 1054 Chevy back in the day as a result of his high school buddy who had a post-war Chevy. Moving forward, well a few years, a friend of Mike’s found the 3,200-pound car, and knowing he wanted one turned him onto the Bel Air. The future project was sitting in a barn near Colville, Washington. The previous owner had their own ideas on hot rodding the ol’ Chevy by removing the 235-inch Stovebolt and replacing it with a 283 small-block hooked up to a non-functioning Powerglide. While the body was straight the interior was long gone but, nonetheless, it caught his eye sitting there on Cragar wheels. (And why wouldn’t it!)

What an absolutely gorgeous build. The ultimate strong frame combined with an equally strong engine blended together with a beautifully crafted light body. A recipe for fun and success. I love restomods. Congratulations on the perfect build. The body has all the curves in the right places.

I have a 52 Style line that is a daily driver. I would live to have a shop like that. And the money. I love what you did with details to the underneath of the body and the frame. Beautiful build.

That's all pretty and nice, but will the car ever be driven, I am at an age where I have been to 100s of car shows and seen plenty of these Hot Rod Toys, and the owners literally do not even start them, because if they did the heat from the engine would discolor the manifolds, all show and no go and that would mean they might lose, I would have liked to see how that car looked stock right from the factory, to me that is the true art, this car has been over engineered is there even anything original from the car,

Joe Marco my thoughts exactly. The only thing even remotely resembling a 54 Chevy, is the outline of the body.

I love the 54 Chev, but messing with the grill was a bad decision.
54s are near perfect in stock form.
This proves all the money on the planet can't buy good taste.
