  • Taking a trip from Toronto to Dundas Hamilton, see if it's the best city in Canada to live. Checking out the real estate, parks, nature trails and waterfalls. How are the grocery stores? Not everyone loves Hamilton, they warn of the downtown, but Dundas seems really nice! Travel vlog in Hamilton Ontario Canada.

as a born and raised Hamiltonian I will set a few things straight
    1) Hamiltonians LOVE Hamilton, like alot. We love it because we feel the chip on our should of being "Not Toronto." Toronto has a film festival? we have a bar crawl that is a WAY bigger event. We've always been the little brother and kind of like it that way.
    2) you ALWAYS know who the out of towners are when they're confused where the waterfalls are....its not *where* they are its *when* they are. Balls Falls in March/April = Amazing, June/July = giant rock face.
    3) fun fact about that last grocery store. Fortinos on Rifle Range is across from a Candy factory (you can see it when he's showing the escarpment), it smells SO good there in late spring at the HS across the street. That smell reminds me of soccer tryouts

First off...get a small car, the public transportation utopia that you are accustomed to in Toronto does not exist in Dundas. 2nd...get out and buy your food from the farmers themselves and there are dozens of Farms in the surrounding area within a 30 min drive, 3rd...get a freezer and stock up on those farm items, 4th...don't be so hung up on the term "organic" lots of farms in the area don't bother paying the fees and time getting their farms certified with the term organic, they simply raise the foods and meats the way they were supposed to be.5th... don't knock Hamilton unless you have lived there, Hamiltonians know what's good, bad and ugly about their city and nobody needs an ex Torontonian bad mouthing Hamilton. 6th, put in a garden and grow your own food and see whats really involved in bringing food to the table.

Dundas is a very lovely town, and surrounded by nature, usually referred to as the Valley. I do live on the Hamilton escarpment, but worked in Dundas for many years and you will get the small town feel from Dundas, but still close to main city. It is a great little town, and they celebrate the Cactus Festival there every year. Also you are very close to a major University, McMaster. Hamilton also has a lot of green space, but you have to be aware many structures along the escarpment are deteriorating.

Here in Australia you can get 500g of butter for $6 to $7, but its not "Organic", thats just where the price starts. I wouldn't even know where you could find Organic butter in Australia. All of the prices for everything else was ridiculous - how do you people live with prices so sky high........
Do they have an Aldi or Lidl in Canadia? You can save quite a bit at Aldi.

  • @JohnDrummondPhoto

Interesting little town. You don't have a car, so how is the public transportation? Is a scooter enough in winter?
Trail closures could be from downed trees, which raises the question of park maintenance. The other issue is the areas designated as wildlife refuges. Breeding songbirds can need a lot of foraging territory that's away from human traffic. So please respect that signage.
How do waterfalls stop? (1) drought; (2) lack of snowmelt in spring, which is related to #1; (3) the water source being diverted for irrigation, or even by a landslide or fallen trees. I'm sure there are others.
P.S. - the "hawk" at 4:45 is actually a Black Vulture. You can tell by the very tiny head and the slight tilt of the wings when soaring.
