Today I went off the deep end and bought a 1999 Dodge Caravan that was used in the super popular, early 2000s MTV show "Pimp My Ride." It hasn't really withstood the test of time though. At least it was cheap, right?

The owner knew from the start.... The whole show was fake and totaly staged. They would film the "reactions" of the owners several times, often after they had already seen the end result, and the owners were advise to make a big fuss and look estupidly happy... Even the reactions to the owner finding out they had been chosen to get the tunning were fake... some even filmed in the house of a member of the staff, when the owner place was not "addecuated" to receive the visit in a way that would look cool... like if the owner lived in an apartment, or a place they couldnt film.
Also the tuning was fake... they only did visual upgrades, often at the cost of the car even being viable to drive, hence why many ended like this van. It literaly was all paint and glitter.

All those old MTV and VH1 shoes were so damn good, the peak of braindead cable television. Watching this video made me want to compile a list a bunch of those old shows I grew up watching, pirate them, and go on a nostalgia bender watching them all again.
Pimp My Ride, Jackass, Viva La Bam, Wild Boys, Flavor of Love, Punk’d, Cribs, Room Raiders, Rob and Big, Next, Parental Control, Date My Mom, Hogan Knows Best, Celebrity Paranormal Project, etc… damn, it might’ve all been brain-mush, but at least it was fun. First time viewer to your channel.
I was a HUUUUGE fan of Pimp My Ride, and then learned about so much of the stuff that happened afterwards. Cuz obviously you think that what's being done is pretty awesome, taking used cars, restoring them and making them flashy and awesome, but then the reality of the upkeep of these vehicles comes into play.
You are doing a great service, I wish you could restore my 2006 Volvo so that it looks like new.

So that's how Pimp My Ride kept going for so long- they made the cars look so pretty, but basically kept the engines untouched to the point the car falls apart after the cameras stop rolling. I wonder how many of those cars are still in decent shape if the owners kept up on their much-needed upkeep.
