    Luke, we had a storm two nights ago. Reminded me of you. It was weird, (just kidding) lasted about 45 seconds and stopped. It blew 3, 6 inch diameter, 15-20 feet long limbs, down in my yard. Snapped the whole tops off a sycamore and a poplar, both just more than a foot in diameter, landed on top of each other…good firewood. Been working two days to clear ‘em out of the yard, more to clear. Sheesh!!! Thanks for sharing your adventure…from East Tennessee.
    I’m an old retired vet.. I park pointing out…my car, my pickup and my big bike…almost every time. I even sit pointing out in a restaurant.

    I talk to the animals that wander in from the woods around my house, too.❤ I told a fat Tom turkey the other day that he'd better strut his stuff back in the woods because out here, he looked like my dinner. He looked at me with a side-eye & kept on strutting. He made me giggle...fun times for this old lady!

    when im camping as you are in that area, i place a 20# mono fishing line around the area with the end of it has a air horn , when you trip the line it sounds the horn, about a full 1 min , before , so you know someone or an animal as tripped the air horn, i did this in yellowstone last year , because i was in an area where there plenty of gizzalies in the area, , i made the horns from a old bear spray can that people dont think to throw away,? a valve stem super glued in the top of the can, a noise maker from a party favor the can holes appox. 100psi of air, super glued to the open end, and a 20# mono fishing line around the whole area where im camping, bear comes in, trips the line the horn sounds for 10 sec, the bear run away never to come back, people get mad , but later are glad something is out there watching natural before it destories your camp site?

    I just got rid of my ARB 8' awning and awning room on my 4runner. Going to switch over to T4 Gazelle. Was using a tarp like yours over the back of the truck. Switched that over to the Kelty Highroads shelter...seems to offer more versatility and closed in more in case you need to use heat.

    I've been backpacking and car camping over 50 years. After covid I've noticed a huge increase in folks in the woods. The way things are today you just need to be prepared. I've never been bothered, but one never knows. The way you park your vehicle makes no difference. Your ability to protect yourself does. Just saying.

  • @PeteOutdoors1

    There is one advantage in parking in the direction of the exit, that is better maneuverability when driving forward as opposed in reverse. It's a negligible advantage but an advantage none-the-less.

    It's common for people in the fire service back into their parking spaces. The reason behind this is for quick and easy egress. You just pull forward quickly without having to worry about backing into anything or anyone. It's pretty handy in parking lots because people don't like to stop and let you back out, and you don't have to worry about someone blasting through the lot and you not seeing them.

    Really appreciated the reminder to get a skin check. Have had 14 burned off 1 cut out and 1 melanoma found so far. Have 3 more to get cut out and more burned off. The previous doctor (2 years ago) told me it wasn’t anything to worry about. Current doctor wasn’t fussed but I pressed and asked for it to be removed. Turned out to be melanoma. Trust your gut. I’ve got to get more of it cut out but aside from that idk what treatment will be. Even without that find, the new dr put me on a 3 monthly review. Go get your skin checked.

  • @timbennett7211
    @timbennett7211 5 месяцев назад +4

    I don't know Luke...this argument about parking facing out or in is interesting to me. I do believe I would park with the vehicle facing out so I could blind any intruders pulling in on me with my headlights if necessary and it's logical to believe you could get out faster if blocked in by moving forward rather than backward. Of course as you say blocked is blocked but with a big overland truck like you have if I had to push something out of the way I could see what and how to push better from the front window. Interesting discussion. Curious to hear others opinions.

    • @sandramcarthur1866
      @sandramcarthur1866 5 месяцев назад

      If you hit front of vehicle to push your way out, vehicle wouldn't go far without radiator,...backend hit might be better for functional driving after they are slammed out of the way

    I have a stormbreak 3p since 2017 and it has been flawless, not a drop of water ever, even during strong winds. Two minor cons: when you open the rainfly some water drips into the inner mesh and ventilation is not adequate for very hot weather but besides that its a great tent.

    POM is the easiest carrying pepper spray that ive tried. My only complaint with it is that its a little slick and the clip part rotates and whn you pull it out of your pocket the spray nozzle might be pointing an odd direction. A small strip of Talon tape on the side fixes both issues, makes it super easy to draw.
