- Jeff Waynes War of the Worlds is an excellent game from all the way back in 1998 that now has a bit of a cult following. And until GoG picks it up, which may be never, getting it to work on modern tech is a pain. But in this tutorial I show you how!

Thank you for this! I loved this game when it came out and have tried before to run it. The music would not play, as you mentioned. This installed after I had to end another process (nvcontainer) and it started to run with the intro video of the Army meeting, but it ran into a fatal error after exiting the intro video.After that I could not get it to install or run again. I was not sure what to do with the downloaded patch. If you have written instructions could you post that in the comments? That might be easier for me. Thanks!
@@doloresabernathy9809 Copy the entire patch folder contents into your install directory. 6:54 for reference :) also remember to do the following steps afterwards with the DXGL program. These are detailed after I talk about the patch :)
@@VenomGamingCenter Thank you. After doing these additional steps and running the wow_patched version I can hear music as if the game has started but the screen is black. There is no error message the music continues to play. Any other suggestions?
@@doloresabernathy9809 Did you do the following steps just after with the DXGL program? I detail them just after the step with the wow patcher.
You have to use the program on all three of the exe files. It's the only thing I can think of as to why it wouldn't be working for you I'm afraid :/

Hi! I have problem with martian game, only human campain works.
DXGL no woks too, I can't install
What can I do?
If you want to play the Martian Campaign you just need to switch over the image on the virtual drive to the Martian one and launch the game with the WoW_patched.exe.
As for DXGL, does it give any errors or anything? I've not heard of it not installing before as it's a tiny program.

I did what you said about the part of installing it where you go into services Exe and run a wait chain but mine showed up as normal and every time i try to install the game it doesn't install

anyone have any ideas?
I mount martian CUE to same drive as human had been on and it still takes me to the human loading page (immediately asks for me to insert human CD once I try to start a game). Suggestions on how to fix? Restarting laptop doesn't seem to work.
I'm unsure, as everyone's computer setup is different. If you followed all the steps exactly, and used all the programs you should have it should be working fine. I don't really know why it wouldn't be I'm afraid :/
@@VenomGamingCenter I was able to solve it by unistalling the game and redoing your steps, except I selected martian cd rather than human cd during the process you outlined

Hmm, if you followed all the steps it SHOULD be working. I've recently had to get a new computer so I'll be following this guide myself to reinstall it and get it working so I'll get back to you on that. As I'm not sure. Aside from a complete do over and doing things slowly step by step again.

@@VenomGamingCenter I did mess with GLX thingy (on my phone atm) with full screen instead of default, and somehow it started working, so yeah, buzzing like an old fridge, however there is one more question: -
When I up the resolution, everytime I switch screen from the map of uk to either the 'battle' screen or the research screen, my display goes black for about 3 seconds everytime unless I use the lowest resolution setting, is there anything I can do to stop this (I did try the GLX thingy with the display settings but they all seem to do the same thing)? The reason I ask is as it happens so often, it would be annoying if it was on say, a stream or on a video - which in turn would be even more annoying to edit.
@@GeeW365 I can't think of anyway to get around that, no. I think it's largely down to the game being so old and the code being kinda janky.
I know I always had to play it in the lowest resolution, and even then if I alt tabbed by mistake it'd crash every time.
@@VenomGamingCenter that's fair, but listen, getting it working with music is something every 6 months for the last 6 years or so I have tried to do and only once did I get it working but without music, so I tip my hat to you. Thank you.

Until somebody like GOG picks it up and brings it back to modern systems, it's so janky and old you have to do all these steps and work around lol

I don't know what that message means unfortunately. As space shouldn't be an issue.

@@eliasrobinson3915 Its cause the new drive doesn't have anymore space available, you need to allocate more space for it.

Definitely needed the patch to fix the audio/music problems, I don't think it was suppose to fix anything else.
@@VenomGamingCenter Curious, have you experienced any crashes for this game?
@@armairoes I've experienced the odd crash sometimes during late campaign when there is a lot going on. But it's rare. The most definite crash seems to be alt+tabbing, it really doesn't like it and crashes every time for me lol

No, don't bother with that. You won't need it as your pc will have a newer version anyway.
This game is from 1997, so the directx included with it is also super old and outdated.

The same way you uninstall any program on your PC. If you don't know how to do that, I can't really help you.

You need to change which file is mounted. Then just run the patched.exe
It won't let me run the patched one. I can't change the name. And I'm really confused.

@@ULLA-fc1yc Then you need to change which file is mounted. You need to mount Martian.cue and then run patched.exe and it'll load the campaign. If you're unsure, rewatch the video.
@@VenomGamingCenter I did and it won't work still. I am very angry and stressed I don't want to play the stupid human campaign, I want to be the villain. I got the patched file RE MOUNTED THE MARTIAN FILE BUT IT WILL NOT WORK
