These videos look a lot better without those weird lines running through them. I think when i used to play this game, the monitor we used was stuck with a max resolution of 1024x720 or something, can't really remember.
I just noticed when i paused the video as the tripods were walking, and i noticed the support struts for the legs connected to the upper 1/4, between the last two 'braces', but all reference images i can find show those struts connecting to the 'middle' about 2/3 the way up the legs, weird, i never noticed that before, and i've seen these intro videos hundreds of times.

The lines are a result of compression. If you remove the interpolating lines the brain still sees the image by filling in the gaps. That is how they reduced the size. The original high quality videos are in the possession of Jeff Wayne, I have just removed the interpolation lines and extrapolated what should be in between. Filling the holes s it were.

Apparently that book at 1:13 is war of the worlds, I have no idea if that is true please someone confirm or deny it.

@@RokeJulianLockhart.s4eb2q It's actually The Lost World by Michael Crichton - you can make out the lines "The tyrannosaurs have left the nest!" and "Dodgson sprinted for the Jeep." Seems the animators needed some dummy text for the shot and just scanned the nearest book available.

Is that Nigel Hawthorne's voice at the start?

Oh, yes. He voiced the whole of the game's human interactions.

So, is this game an alternate version of the story?

      It was a continuation.

it's basically an alternative version where the military manages to defeat all the Martians from the first cylinder, causing the other cylinders to reroute to land all across Britain rather than just London, forming a base in the Scottish highlands. They also seem to be immune to disease in this version, and have to be defeated by force. (The journalist also appears to go directly to the military in this version, so maybe his wanderings from the book/album don't happen.)

@@JohnSmith-jd4qm I think the civilians when they saw the martians (in the cutscene) thry immedialy start running, only theres 3 dudes there
(maybe they brought alot of military attention to bring more guns i guess?)
also the main protagonist directly going to military officers
