Wow. This one made me cry. I loved the way she said he went out on top doing what he loved. I have three pilots in my family. Anyway I’m glad she’s ok.

Mad props to Elaine for not only staying calm, but also having a sense of humor in the situation too is helpful. Given the circumstances, any landing you can walk away from is a good one 😀!

Landing is the most difficult part of learning how to fly an airplane.

Yup. I believe most plane crashes happen during landing

the plane @18:44 is the actual plane Elaine managed to land obviously they could not use it for the reenactment due to the front landing gear being broken and the propeller being dented but Elaine is definitely a hero for what she did not knowing how to fly but managed to safely land

This happened 40 years ago. I had just turned two and it was 10 days before my brother Andrew was born. I was living in Arizona at the time this happened but I’m not sure where in Arizona, maybe Phoenix or Tucson. RIP Richard 1917-1984. Elaine did a wonderful job landing the plane.

I was so relieved that Elaine landed the plane in the nick of time, but it was sad that Richard had died. at least he’s in a better place now and has been there for 40 years. I’m sure that he and Elaina are in heaven together now.

I was two and I had started preschool when this happened. Actually September 4, 1984 was on a Tuesday and the day after Labor Day. Plus this happened 10 days before my brother Andrew was born.

As they say in the show: seven years passed between the incident and the filming. You can (and should) do a lot of grieving and processing in that time. She was at a point where she could look back and just see the positives and happiness when she thought of him and the event. You can't cry forever.
