  • Dave2D review of the ASUS ZenBook 13 UX331 with an Nvidia MX150. The best laptop from Asus for thin and light gaming under $1000!
    Available Here - amzn.to/2G0IepC
    The new ASUS ZenBook 13 UX331 is the lightest laptop from Asus with a high-performance discrete graphics chip. The Zenbook 13 UX331 is 13.9mm thin and 1.12kg light rocking a NanoEdge display which makes it more compact than most 13-inch laptops. A 4K 13.3-inch touchscreen display is available with a pixel density of 332 pixels per inch. Gaming is great with the NVIDIA GeForce MX150 chip and it’s own dedicated video memory. Up to 14 hours of battery life and fast charging that will get you 60% battery on a 50 minute charge.

    Hey dave, I ended up buying this because of the review, and honestly I enjoyed the time I had with it.
    The major thing for me was that it died after 1.5 years (1 year warranty), I'm pretty sure this wont happen to everybody who owns one of these, but beware of that.
    The mx150 in this one has been underclocked by ASUS, so that it will run at 10W instead of 25W, so I think it's a little misleading to say it's "for gaming." I barely could get games to run to be quite honest.
    Another huge issue I had was the loud fan noise and poor thermals, which caused a lot of throttling (maybe that's why my fps was so low).
    If you're looking for a way to game on a thin and light ultrabook, I'm sorry but even in 2020 it is still a ways away. I expect within 5 years mobile GPU tech will mature enough to fit in these smaller devices. Until then it's better just to bite the bullet and buy something bulkier that can comfortably run games, or just avoid laptops at all and stick to a tower for gaming, with a light machine for work.
    This device was very ahead of its time, for better or for worse.

      @Valdivia9494 4 года назад +1

    Dave, you mentioned that this laptop comes with a SATA SSD, but that it can be replaced by an NVMe SSD. I I've noticed that some Asus laptops that ship with SATA SSDs cannot boot from nvme SSD Replacements due to a BIOS limitation. Are you certain that you can actually upgrade the SSD *AND* boot from it? This isn't the sort of distinction that one might think you would need to make, given how ubiquitous NVMe SSDs are, but with Asus laptops, you sometimes do.

      I just got one and the fans kick on even when web browsing sometimes. Not sure why I'm sure it could be fixed through software or it's the preloaded McAfee Antivirus running in the background but when I'm out and about at school on better battery mode it doesn't really come on. The SSD runs a little hot I believe and it has some noise coming from it which I'm sure could be fixed if you replace it. Fans get loud when playing something like Fortnite but that's good although it doesn't keep the laptop as cool as I would like but what can I do. Keyboard is good for me and the screen has some flex. The screen is matte so no reflections from sunlight which is awesome and I think it's a pretty nice screen. It's a pretty good laptop and I like it but I'm wary about the fans and the heat and the SSD. I wouldn't regret it if you bought it but remember it does depend on what you intend to use it for

    • @thomasandredelacruz4488
      @thomasandredelacruz4488 6 лет назад

      wangatang53 my main concern is the battery life. Asus advertises up to 9 hours but i've seen some reviews saying it only lasts up to 6 hours. How is the battery life in your unit?

    • @wangatang53
      @wangatang53 6 лет назад +1

      Thomas Andre Dela Cruz So far it's been pretty good. I keep it from the second to lowest power setting and got home after very light use at school with 88% left. However, today I left the wifi on and it must have kept searching for my school's connection which is known to break a lot so I got home after a 7 hour school day with 63% left. Honestly, from the little data I have so far, the battery life is really good. Plus it's charger charges it relatively quickly. Overall, wouldn't worry too much about battery life. Of course it varies depending on your usage

    Just a side note, the FPS is true for these games; however, due to throttling after about 20 min of gameplay the FPS has moments when it would just spike down. Idk if that should be included, but just something to keep in mind

      Donker Official, Why? I have a 2 in 1 and I use it all day long, so i need my eyes not to get tired in a few hours. HP has crappy quality and touch (not 2in1) xps 13 has no dedicated graphics card while being more expensive, 2 in 1 xps 13 has a Y processor. I have put some research into this, I am looking for a touch laptop with half decent graphichs and I can say that UX331UN is pretty much the only option. I'd love to buy dell, I have spent 4 great years with my xps 12, but there is no touch ultrabook with dedicated graphics from dell at all, let alone for this price.

    I Own the i7 8550u, 16Gb RAM and 500is GB SSD Version. If you are bothered by the throttling you can use Intels XTU to undervolt the CPU. Mine did well on -150mv and doesnt throttle anymore since then :)) Also: use Asus GPU Tweak (not afterburner, since it´s not really compatible for whatever reasons!!) to set the prefered FPS, this will set the priority of the GPU over the CPU in use, making the GPU hold the high Frequency while Gaming. This will gilve you a stable FPS when the CPU overheats due to Intel BOOST. Aaaand If you arent afraid of OC, then you can push the Mem & GPU Freq to the max increasing the fps by 10-20% depending on games. No Thottling issues whatsoever since the CPU is usually under low load when playing games :D Great piece, same GPU performance as my old zenbook with GTX950m with half the weight!

      @bluster78787878 6 лет назад

      TabalugaDragon I bet it's not because of amd that the rollout process is slow. Many laptop makers have to adapt their current lineup of laptops to raven ridge apus, which includes new bios and motherboard changes. I also night think that some companies are partnered with Intel so much as to turn their backs to the new line of apus as well.
