Dave Lee Dave, I tried tweeting at you, but couldn't catch a hold of you. Do you still happen to have the Acer predator helios 300? Can you give it to me? Before I start getting hate replies for asking for free shit. I wanna clarify. In my country it costs 2000 dollars. I'm ready to pay a 1000 dollars which is the original price but double the price is just stupid! So yeah... I just have to ask. I'm running out of options and I'm gonna have to buy something else that just isn't gonna cut it. Dave, if you do see this. Please reply😃

@@PoopyMcdikFace This provides a VERY interesting insight. I'm very surprised by how many people must choose consecutive numbers. I would guess that their thinking was that most people would avoid consecutive numbers because it doesn't "look" probable. They tried to out-think the average punter and found that lots of other people did the same. Where there are million of people playing it only takes a minute percentage to have the same idea as you and you're screwed. In reality the best way is to go truly random. There's always the bind of what happens when you select randomly and turn up a series or pattern. I think I'd be tempted to re-randomise in such situations.....

I gotta say, this laptop is super tempting. As you said, it looks like an actually decent 2-in-1. It checks all the boxes for me. Plus, the Thunderbolt 3 support is just icing on the cake. The question now is 1) whether I'll actually have the funds and 2) whether I actually want/need a 2-in-1. I've got a 2-in-1 Chromebook right now (Acer R11) and I'm quite pleased with it. I'll have to keep an eye on this one for when I get a new laptop for seminary next year.

    Great review!
I bought the laptop a month ago with the i7 and 16 gigs of RAM. It feels amazing, I must say. The chassis is sturdy, keyboard is great, long battery, usability as a convertible, almost everything's great. I even got working my lenovo USB-C 45W adapter to charge this thing (through a USB-C dongle, not directly, but still working...).
But there're a few things to consider if you want this laptop:
    1) Sound - there're some issues with the sound driver (probably will get solved over time), sometimes the sound just doesn't work and if you connect headphones, there's kind of electric static noise coming from them. Can be solved by running through the "Fix sound problems" in Windows without restarting and telling you don't hear the testing sounds (which you don't...) after it finishes, the utility says it couldn't tell what the problem is, but the sound works from that moment. Takes no more than 2 minutes, still annoying though. And when the sound works, it's quite a good quality sound for an ultrabook, I was surprised, definitely better speakers than the MSI GS63VR I have.
    2) Touchpad - the touchpad works just fine, but it's (at least on my unit) poorly "glued" to the bottom. It just makes clicking noise even if you don't press it hard enougt to trigger left/right click, which is really annonying.
    3) Fingerprint scanner - I wanted to use only fingerprint scanner for logging in into Windows (didn't want to use the IR cameras, so I haven't tried using them). After the first setup, it took at least 10 times to recognize my finger (after 3 you have to type in a PIN code). It's on quite a wierd position (and shape) in my opinion, you just dont hit it perfectly every time, cause you don't see it as it's on the side of the laptop. I had to go through the process of adding more fingers (actually I was just adding the one, but in different angles, positions...) at least three times to get the finger mapped and now it usually recognizes me after the 2nd or 3rd attempt.
    4) The pen - there's a pen being shipped with this model. It feels really good, tracking is nice, the actuation pressure is a little high, but that's ok. As I'm coming from the Galaxy Note 10.1 tablet (S Pen styls support), I was used to never worry about the battery in the pen. This one I have to charge like every week basically, the first time it went dead on me I was really surprised, it was only a few days of using it, which seems to me like a joke. Also it has a built in battery, so it HAS to be charged via USB-C cable. A week of battery life for a pen just seems to be too little for me.
    5) Processor - as said in the video, TDP in the Intel XTU can't be altered (can, but does nothing), so the processor can shortly boost to higher clocks (3.2-3.4GHz) and 30W of TDP, but then drops to about 2.3GHz and 10-12W of TDP, where it stays. But that's just how the "U" processors roll, I have not that much experience with other "U" laptops, so that may be normal, so that's just a small gripe.
All in all, I love this laptop, other than the short battery life of the pen and the trackpad "clicking" issue, I'm really happy that I got it. Oh yea and one more thing - there're large discussions about the battery drain when the unit is off (10% a day or so) - happy to say, that it has been fixed with the 8th gen (at least my unit) and the unit does NOT drain battery when off, which is great to see, that HP looked into this troubling issue.
    Hope it helps someone!
    Cheers

I've had this laptop for over a year and i absolutely love it! Got it for a little less than $1k during last year's Black Friday sale. I'm a college student and I use it to take notes in class and draw occasionally. I also play quite a few games on it such as League of Legends, Fortnite, Osu, ArcheAge, Overwatch, etc. It's not the best laptop for gaming obviously but I can still play comfortably. When you use it in tablet mode to watch movies or videos, it feels like a flat screen tv in your lap, its awesome. Highly recommend for anyone in the market for a 2 in 1!

Hey Dave, I've been using the 15 inch variant of this laptop (also with the 8th gen chip) and the coil whine is driving me crazy! I'm curious if this is just my case that I'm having a defective unit? Or have you done any optimization to your review unit? Coil whine is a hardware fault, there is little that you can do on the software side that will change it. If you are still within warranty
then return it for a new unit.

I use laptops very gently because I like tech and I hate it when I scratch it or anything, but I think it has so bad thermal it is always hot and the glue has so bad quality it just fell itself. it has problems with type-c screens like if type-c is connected it never turns on ( I had the same problem with several HP Envys), and if you shut down laptop screens still think laptop is on and they keep backlighting on forever. while the same screens work on any other laptops fine and auto sleep when laptops go to sleep or off.

Had the previous gen and loving it! Now replaced it with Yoga 920 as the specs and price was better. Very happy and eventhough I don't use it in a tablet mode, I sometimes use it in a tent mode to watch things in bed to prevent it from overheating. I mainly like that I can fold/unfold it to any angle which is very hard with a great laptop like the XPS. Not a great thing for tall people.

I recently bought a HP Envy 15 x360, with the Ryzen 5 mobile chip, 16GB of RAM, a 256GB NVME SSD/1TB HDD and onboard vega 8 mobile graphics for $1700 AUD. 15" 2in1's are honestly not nearly as bad as reviewers make them out to be. The bigger screen is much nicer for gaming, watching movies, etc, and it's not too big to the point where it's a nightmare to flip the screen over. I personally find 13" screens flat out too small. I've been using my 24" desktop monitor for quite a while and I'm used to having so much freedom in terms of raw screen space. But this is my personal preference, I'd 100% recommend going to your local tech store and taking the 13" and 15" laptops out for a spin and see what you prefer.

Used R studio for my data analytics class on this beast.. performed some fast analysis using random forest models and decision trees.. the laptop managed to do stuff with ease. I used to host local servers for my web application with ease, and saw my beauty outperforming the MacBook pro (2017) very easily..

HP is still HP. My sister bought this laptop, and it's had issues since Day 1. The touch screen either doesn't work or starts misbehaving, and the hard drive crashed once already in the first year itself. The guys at HP refused to replace the laptop and we basically have to wait for the repair guy to come in.
The laptop is so delicate that my sister's too scared to use it anywhere risky, let alone use it's 2 in 1 features.

Just got one of these and my first reaction also was that it felt quite comfortable. Coming from an HP Revolve G1, the screen and performance completely are solid. I heard about the pen ahead of time and the optional Tilt Pen (not regular HP Pen it comes with) works very nice. I plan on getting more used to that but it could help me with my entry to digital artistry. Got the device on sale too, for under $1000. Well worth it if someone is on the fence about this! Great alternative to the Zbook x2, which can be a few hundret or thousand more.

I think it looks gorgeous, but like you said people should realise that they are buying a 2-in-1 and not just a laptop. It seems very interesting, but in order to make your point on whether people should be convinced to try a 2-in-1, you should have definitely dedicated more time into showing us what it looks and feels like to use a tablet of this size. For example, does the user get annoyed by holding a keyboard at the back of the screen that can't be removed? Does it get in the way of the tablet experience? Does the weight, screen-holding & screen-touching feel as comfortable & as natural as a tablet? etc etc.

I got the kaby lake version last christmas (7500u 256gb). It's an amazing upgrade from my surface pro 3 but I have 2 recommendations:
    1) Install windows precision drivers (there's a guide on reddit) and
    2) get a surface pro 4 pen. I'ts compatible and works much better than the HP one.
The only things I don't like:
    - 1080p screen it's ok, but 2k would be better. There's a 4k version.
    - 16:9 Aspect ratio. I really miss surface's 3:2 ratio. Plus, it would decrease the bottom and top bezels.
Other than that, the laptop is nearly perfect.

Bought the latest version one a few days ago. Here is what I have to say:
    1. Overheating. It can get pretty hot especially the front speakers area when the laptop is on heavy load (Is this normal? It's my first ultrabook).
    2. The usb and usb c ports are really tight, like REALLY tight. I've struggled to plug in and pull out chargers, adapters and etc. Though I was told it will loosen over time.
    3. The trackpad isn't the most responsive but it's usable.
    4. Also, download and install all windows updates before doing anything else. Mine came with a pretty outdated windows version with a ton of start menu issues.
    Great laptop nonetheless :)

I bought this laptop and returned it after 1 month. It's not a bad product but I really did not like the trackpad and I found the screen to be too wobbly to comfortably use in laptop mode on my lap, also the fans just started spinning for no reason at all sometimes. I got a 13" MacBook pro (non-touchbar) instead, it was €22,- more expensive and comes with 8 GB of ram (instead of 16 on the spectre), 256 GB (instead of 512 GB) and an older generation Dual core i5 (instead of the 8th gen quadcore i7).
And for some reason the Macbook pro feels so much faster than the spectre x360. The speakers sound so much better and the trackpad (of course) is wayyyy better on the MacBook pro. Even the screen is sharper and gets brighter.
So please, if you don't plan on using the spectre in tablet mode, just go for a normal laptop (Windows or Mac).

I have tried a lot of convertible, 2 in 1 laptops/tablets, but the X360 is by far the best of both worlds. (Using the X360 7th gen Kabylake ver.) Good screen, good audio, good battery life, good keyboar/trackpad, good port selection, good SSD speed, good tablet usability.
My only gripe is that i'd prefer it to be a 3:2 aspect ratio.

I bought one of these from BB on black Friday and was really excited about it. Unfortunately these reviews are not always in line with what you get at retail when you actually buy it. First of all the screen uses pwm dimming and I noticed it within a minute of use. Just a little bit uncomfortable to look at. The fans had a very noticeable high pitched ring. There was quite a bit of coil whine. Relatively subtle but truly unpleasant noise coming from the machine. The fingerprint sensor did not work most of the time. The touch pad was mediocre. Lastly the bottom panel of the machine had a defect where it would depress and make an audible clicking sound when I picked it up or handled the laptop. Between all the electrical noise and the pwm screen I actually felt like it would be unhealthy to use this for long periods of time.

I have the 8th gen 15'' variation. It's fast, snappy and can multitask with ease (streaming, multiple tabs, video chat etc). Only cons i have with mine is the heat. This laptop can get hot but i always put it on a stand when im home. On battery it doesnt get hot. Plugged in i have some coil whine but not noticeable with all the background noise unless you're in a library. I can deal with my coil whine. One other concern i have is my left hinge has the most slightest depression when closed. Considering HP's quality control hopefully its not a future problem.

I'm currently writing this on my Spectre, with a 8th gen i7, 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD. Everything that Dave states is in the video is true about the laptop, and i would highly recommend it. The only issue that I have with this laptop is the fan coming on when I am doing basic tasks like word processing and web browsing, but this is simply due to a lack of airflow and can easily be fixed. I had it for a month before the screen died, I tried all of the software fixes you can do and even had a HP technition try, but nothing would work, so they just replaced it for me. However, the one they replaced it with has a dint in the bottom of it and like you, I also have problems with the hinges, so I'll be getting yet another replacement one, or a different laptop. Good thinking getting the extra warrenty, hopefully you won't need it, but it's better to be safe than sorry.

As an artist I would love to have built-in pen support with nice pressure levels...but most of the time I see such review videos and they don't give me enough understanding about pen drawing...authors just ignore pen support at all (I mean: turning on paint3d and writing something is not a good showcase of tablet abilities) Currently I am waiting for new generation of DELL XPS and I want to know how well it performs as a tablet PC.
So, if you will make a new review in future about Dell XPS, could you concentrate more on tablet characteristics? Here what we really want to know: straight line drawing. You can put a ruler on screen and draw slowly a straight line, many tablets have jitter while slow painting. Sometimes we get really expressive and can break some things while painting...just want to know your opinion about how fragile the screen and pen are. The pen comes with build in battery, or it is like Wacom pen (without battery)? and one last thing: how hard should we push, to get all pressure levels on the pen.
Some free software can help you to showcase tablet features: MyPaint, Krita. You don't have to be an artist, we just want to know the technical side of the device.
