Tips to ride-share safely after college student killed mistaking car for Uber
Why doesn't Uber have one of those neon signs like Lyft?
PQ Zeus in Long island the dumb cops will give out tickets to any Uber driver that has a neon light displayed ..we have some real idiot cops out here
Uber has it but their drivers have an option to use/not use it.
@PQ Zeus is that really the solution to this problem? C'mon.
They do and like Lyft it is optional. Lyft used to only give them out after a certain number of trips.
The solution is to never leave friends alone, always verify the license plate with what is in the app before getting in as well as the ask the driver for his/her name. DO NOT say the name or tell them yours. Ask their name and be sure it matches. Be safe everyone.
@@cryptonomical7777 It is not optional in all cities. But the presence of a sticker would not have prevented this poor girl from being murdered anyway. More than enough info is there to find out if the car you're getting into is the one in the app. If she didn't bother to look at the make/model, she wouldn't have bothered to look at a sticker.
Drinking alcohol is such a huge problem on this planet. It's one of the worst drugs on the planet and it's normalized and even romanticized. Very sad.
What does alcohol have to with anything?
alcohol is the problem and not the fact a man stabbed her multiple times and decided to take advantage of her? weird way to focus on what doesnt matter. people are gonna drink alcohol, prohibition showed us that. we can stop people from murdering by negating social problems and minimizing trauma to children, that is earths problem. our systemic discrimination of humans that in turns hurts babies and makes them wanna hurt others. that is a HUGE problem. not alcohol.
I didn't say that. I said it is a huge problem. And it is.
Oh and children who grow up in alcoholic homes go through enormous trauma. So there's that's too
This is why I always check the license plates before hopping in... and ask them my name... can’t take risks... but a woman alone, late at night, after drinking... just not smart.
Nahh you need a fucking gun.
⛦College kids aren't known for being smart
And the fuck up thing is another black men lock up,common my black people, don't harm womens innocents women for no reason.this go to Latinos, whites, chinese from everywhere too.dont harm innocent people.
Agreed!

Ladys the rule is never leave your friend along stay together
Absolutely! Friends don't let their Female friends drive home alone or walk home alone these days. Especially after midnight!
what if they do not get along ?

ELECTRIC CHAIR.
So “ Her good friends” got separate with her..
And now crying wolf.. 🤦🏾♀️... i have rules with my friends if we go out together we r leaving together. I don’t care if u meet “luv of ur life”
Right! It’s like she had the worst friends ever. We never let a friend leave alone after drinking. She should had checked information before getting in.
my friends always leave me because me all live in completely different areas💀but she shud have waited for the driver to confirm her name not just get inside and sit down straight away..Did she even see any mobile phone on a stand showing where the car was going or anything..wow
Exactly. The trial was aired on TV and those "friends" are trash. TRASH.
My mothers rule is that if you leave with someone you have to come back with them. You always stay together.
Tip to college girls: DO NOT USE UBER or take rides from anybody you do not know. Always carry a concealed, loaded handgun.

This is so heartbreaking..this man makes me sick
Uber needs to supply a transparent sticker that clearly identifies the car as "UBER".
All Uber cars should have the sticker clearly showing on the rear windows.
No sticker, don't get in the car. Period.
@Robert stiles dumb, not a solution.
@@mattmarkus4868 How about pink neon lights? More your style?
@@RobertStiles Cute. But all kidding aside.. all the info required to prevent this tragedy is there staring at you in the face when you get a ride. A sticker wouldn't have worked in this situation. Why would she care about a sticker when she didn't care to match the make and model or license plate? Plus, people can copy stickers. It would give people a false sense of security So a sticker is even worse. Common sense and vigilance is what failed here.
@@mattmarkus4868 So she lacked "common sense".
How do we prevent other girls who lack "common sense" from being kidnapped and murdered?
@@RobertStiles Well, to answer that we need to know what happened first. If things are as they seem in this case...then there's probably nothing we can do except remind people to be on guard always. But let's be real here. If this was just a mistake on her part..and the work of one "lucky" psycho murderer... what are the odds of 1) someone getting into the wrong Uber car AND 2) that the driver of this particular car on this particular night is um... going to stab you to death??. With odds that low, there's probably nothing "we" can do. It's just tragic and incredibly unlikely. I know politicians and the public don't want to hear that but it's probably true.
I bet the real Uber driver who showed up looking for her probably has some serious PTSD after this story.
He received his 4$ cancellation fee n probably doesnt even know it was that ride.
@@Steve-ls3lr Nah it wouldn't be cancelled, you know why? Because she thought she went in her uber so she wouldn't have cancelled her ride. Her actual uber had to have pulled up to the scene to only wait about 5 to 10 minutes til to see that she's gone and s/he would've cancelled on her because she's taking too long unbeknownst to him/her that she got in the wrong car.
@@ethanrosa1194 a driver gets 5 mins n then they are able to cancel the ride as rider isnt here. Im sure he got a ride right after n never knew of what IF....
The killer is a b but people should be more careful whose car they get into.
Check the license plate #. If it doesnt match dont go in. Simple as that.
@@Steve-ls3lr You just confirmed my point. She didn't cancel her ride because never checked the app after getting in his car. She just thought it was uber
I kinda doubt the has serious PSTD!
Uber usually tells you when they are outside. The driver even calls. What happened here? This is so heart breaking. May she RIP
If they're a predator they I would guess they're looking for people on the street apparently checking their phone and passing cars.
At least that's a my wild theory, not sure how the minds of criminals work. I would think if you accidentally get into a non-criminal's car they'd yell at you that you're in the wrong car, so unlikely to be just some accident situation.
Unfortunately with drinking people might not think to look too closely at the details of their ride service. They might not even notice it's a sedan instead of say a minivan or some such. Nevermind trying to read the license plate and such if they're in a hurry too. I don't drink myself so I'm not sure if people would forget to wait for a phone call too if they're intoxicated enough.
Eloisa Melo No .... they only call after 2 mins of Waiting...
Eric Ling every time I’ve taken one they call me when they are outside.
Okay, no offense but in some countries after 9 pm, women don't even venture outside even in groups, let alone ALONE !
It looks like she just hopped in the car thinking it was her Uber driver and since she had been drinking she failed to take safety precautions. This POS purposely drove around looking for females who were alone.
As an Uber driver let me give everyone using ride share apps some advice. Check the plates first off and ask the driver before you get in the car what the name is.
I'm a driver and I never tell people what the Riders name is.
Chicago KJV yeah I don’t either I have the doors locked most of the time and crack a window and I ask them to tell me there name unless they say mine first
There are alot of precautions in place in order for folks to safely take a rideshare. She was prob intoxicated and just made a mistake. Sad.
Yeah, but that mistake...She’s dead now.

Oh my god. I know how easy this is , 15years ago I got in a 'taxi' outside a nightclub when I was very drunk that I ended up having to jump out of at 40mph when I realized he wasn't a real taxi at all. I ended up having to have loads of rods and screws into my double broken leg but after watching this and others like it I realize how lucky I was . Horrifying

This is still scary! That poor girl! That poor family’s grief! The thought of child safety locks freaks me out! We could do everything we need to do to assure safety with an Uber driver but what if he makes you his first victim?! The thought of being in a child safety locked car is terrifying! Never get in an Uber car by yourself!! Such a sad and tragic story
And yet his mother stood up at his sentencing to say he was innocent, she didn't raise him to do this and I love how the judge shut her down more than once. He laid it flat- he's already guilty of murder.
People don't raise their kids to be murders! No parent makes that their goal. But sometimes you just have to accepts the fact that you kids makes his own choices and they are terrible terrible conscious and planned out choices.

Victim blaming isn’t cool. We are all human and have all made mistakes. Fortunately our mistake hasn’t killed us

Get a licenced cab.

Licensed* learn how to spell, idiot
Bs innovation will trample the dying taxi industry
gordon bezanson I've done this when I couldn't find my uber in DC & my phone died because it was too cold. Although its more expensive you know you will make it home, but typically an uber would be fine as long as you match the car/license plate.
This is heart breaking 💔
To all women...do not 🚫 get into an Uber until you have confirmed the driver through your Uber app. If your going out on the town make sure you have at least 2 friends with you, one to be the designated driver. Don't feel safe because this murdering freak got caught. There are plenty more out there.. preying!! Protect yourself!!
Quick thought: why not have a confirmation code sent to the person receiving the ride, and BEFORE they enter the vehicle the driver shows their phone with a matching confirmation code. Many businesses already use confirmation codes when you access their web sites as a security measure to thwart unauthorized access. Software update with the potential to save lives.
Because lyft/uber already gives you name, photo id, car make and model, stickers/neon lights, and most importantly license plate numbers.
She made a mistake got into the wrong car. Sometimes you don't recover from your mistakes. She didn't.
I hope the state FRYS THIS POS!
I'm wondering how this happened? Did he pull up and say "Did you order an uber?" Why was she so quick to get into his car?! I just can't understand how senseless this crime was.
I was thinking the exact same thing, it was almost as if she knew the guy.
When I get an Uber and a car is waiting outside and it doesn't have signs, I usually open the door and ask if it's my Uber. I'm going to not do that now
What's even worse is she was standing out alone at 2am which the criminal might have seen from a distance and planned to kidnap her.. It's common sense for a woman to stay indoors late that night
I thought it was cause she was drunk?
I know that's crazy. She trusted that man. That's why she went in his car and she went in his car without asking questions first.
I can't believe this!!! Why would you kill anyone???? Dont get it! How did this guy made that decision????? I dont get it!
Nice friends!! Real friends dont leave anyone behind.
"Since we're on a first name basis what is MY name" I would ask that question all the time.
I was an Uber Lyft driver I can't tell you all the times I picked up female passengers who were very happy to have me as their driver. I'm a female.
This is such a tragedy. A young, beautiful girl was killed by a monster. He has been sentenced to life in prison. Personally, I think he deserved death. However, I know Jesus will be waiting for him and will handle the punishment. Rest Peacefully Samantha Josephson...I will never forget your name. xoxo
Friends stay together at 1:30, 3:00 am. What good is going to happen at that time.
Everytime black people try and get a little ahead in society... Folks like this guy set you back a few years.
There is no reason why this should happen to anyone...uber gives you the following info of the person picking you up....car license plate, make and model of car, name of driver, and more info. Theres no reason why you dont at least ask the driver his name before getting into the car
In hindsight...no one really does that. Plus she was drinking and hanging with friends...she just wanted to get home. This was a horrible thing that happened. She didnt do anything wrong.
Checkers Lane, exactly. She should have asked questions before getting in the car and she should have checked the Uber app.

This is terrifying I have done the same thing. The killers family claim he is innocent. Disturbing.
This is why I always call my uber driver first before getting inside.
The call is free.
Check the license plate before getting inside.
Call your uber driver before getting into the car to be sure that it's the driver. Safety first no matter what.
Don't just get in because it seems like the uber you ordered.
Not in this case, but I think people are afraid to agitate the driver too.

IS THIS WHY POLICE ARE AFRAID OF THIS COLOR OF PERSON
6:11 Ask the driver who are you here to pick up? Great advice, besides checking the license plate and seeing if the driver matches the picture I have. In the past, I have made a mistake and asked the driver "are you uber many times? Now I'm going to ask what's my name to make sure it's the right person. Another precaution I make is I use my unique email name not my real name which would be harder for them to guess what it is.

This guy is psycho what’s does he gain form this nothing. He threw both of their lives away for nothing. He’s sick.
She didn't really mistake the car for an Uber, as he was essentially pretending to represent such a service in order to abduct females. When taxis were king, at least you could identify them easily, and very few fake taxis ever existed (and were usually discovered promptly).
How do the friends feel now. They could care less about staying together.
I never take a cab or uber. If I am not going to be able to drive myself home, I will stay home. I stay of the streets at night because as they say at night is when the freaks come out.
What about having a password or safe word for each the driver and passenger when ride is submitted?
No a bad idea. Perhaps a random Safe word that the driver n rider get when the ride is ordered.
It's better to use your own car or family or friend

I'm still trying to figure out how she got into a car that she mistakes for an Uber.l? Don't the Uber people describe the car and what the driver looks like?!?

I don’t understand why people still use Uber. Use lyft!! They send you the persons picture, license plate number and car make and model
SuperSasha1969 but with Uber you can see when the car pulls up to the location on the app. She was very very drunk obviously
I have never used ulber, but for Lyft, you know the plate number of the car, and the face of the driver. The driver always ask if I am the name they suppose to pick up.
Wow this is so sad 🙏🏽

They need to put Nathaniel Roland on probation so he doesn't hurt anyone else.
That's why I don't use these apps. I've watched too much Wendy Williams so I'm aware of the killer. The killer could be anywhere, anytime, anyone so we have to be careful and smart when we're dealing with strangers. Poor girl I can imagine her shock and fear once she realized that she walked into her dead scene by herself. Peace to you.
Lol don’t bring Wendy Into this
In the days before cellphones, we used to make a designated meet up spot in case we were separated. If a phone gets lost, stolen, runs out of charge- you go to the spot and wait. You *never* leave your friend behind.
What your video failed to point out, is that a lot of these victims are DRUNK. These individuals don't have the capacity to check the driver's credentials. DRUNK and alone are the perfect victims for these fake drivers. You need to warn people here that DRUNK women should never be left behind after the group disperses!
I'm sorry but it's a choice to drink, and get drunk. It's intentionally putting your life at risk every time you get drunk out of your senses.
Rhode Island if she was out with friends who live in the area and she's from California how come they weren't with her when supposedly the Uber card drove up? How come they didn't wait with her they just kind of like left her out there I mean that's kind of weird
My little cousin did all of her checks before she got in an Uber. The guy make a shady comment to her and said something like, “are you done?” I told her, that’s fine as long as you’re safe. Screw him. It’s always better safe than sorry. If you don’t keep a gun with you, you need mace and or a knife. I know for sure, mace will buy you some time.
Ok. Question. What's the probability of mistaking a car for your ride and them being a killer??? This doesn't make sence.
Golden Life yess this story is so fishy to me
as an uber driver myself this story is appalling to say the least....to think that there are monsters among us camouflaging themselves as uber drivers to prey on people for their evil ways is beyond words....i always put my passengers before my comfort or discomfort because that is just how I am...I have had a few horrible incidents myself but I am one of those that unless its a life threatening situation I will not try to instigate a matter even if provoked or wronged....for example...once had 4 thugs being racial to me the entire trip, been falsely accused of being a racist, been falsely accused of being under the influence while driving etc...yet I grinded my teeth through it all and knew that as long as none of it was true I'd be okay....sure, my account was put on hold for a few days until Uber investigated these false claims by people who are so ignorant and malicious..but the moral of the story is that you cant put out a fire with fire...if you are innocent even if attacked by false claims, you will be the one standing in the end...and after watching so many of these youtube videos of uber drivers being attacked or harassed by their passengers, I'd like to also give some advice to new uber drivers out there...just because a passenger is rude, disrespectful and ignorant, you still have power over rather things escalate or not by just being patient and trying to calm the person down and not take it personally because they dont know you so whatever judgement is passed upon you by a stranger doesnt have any merit...of course being assaulted is a different matter which if it gets to that one must protect themselves...but alot of times it doesnt have to get to that point..of course some of the times the person just snaps and those are the worst situations...but alot of the time the words we choose can make all the difference to deescalate the situation.....i could have easily snapped myself many of the times I felt disrespected but in the end when you look at it, it isnt worth it...dont make 1 trip of your life a regretful situation when you have a whole life of " trips" ahead of you (and I dont mean just uber trips)....
I use uber all the time. I always look at drivers photo....licence plate.....car description.
Who gets in a car like that.
You call uber.....and a driver doesn't look like the uber photo. Ask them driver w hats your name....who am I???
