I had the honor of meeting her back in 1979. I was doing security for another celebrity. I was a nobody, but she treated me kinder than most people I’ve ever met in my life. People need to know that she was a very kind, sweet person. And beautiful as inside as she was out. God bless you Donna

All that I've seen now, have to wonder if she was 100% female? There's soooo many now that are questionable! Hate on this comment if you will, I just speak my mind! Look into the castratos of the past, just saying! Always loved DS, just now feeling we were deceived, with many others....ie: Pink, Whitney, Celine....etc~

@@613Tracee girl bye you sound ridiculous...all of these women you have named have given birth...so yes they are 100% female....the question is Tracee are you????? In the 21st century there is a lot of weirdness going on but let's not associate that with Ms. Summer, Whitney, or Pink.

Before they put their incredible voices, their souls, their hearts.
Now they put their asses...Music and real artists are dead.
      Is my opinion...

A couple of months later I saw her at her concert with friends at Universal. Unforgettable! I gathered all my friends programs and mailed them and I asked if she would please autograph the programs. Got it back in 2 weeks. Such a classy lady. Few people will remember that she sang the Oscar winning song, Last Dance, in a movie she starred in. Gone too soon. I wonder how her daughters are doing.

I was shocked at how little acknowledgement she received from the industry after she passed away. That made me sad. She was legendary in multiple ways...a trailblazer who's music rocked the nightclubs, radio stations, and music charts during much of the 1970s and early 80s in a very big way. When Disco ruled there was no one who was consistently better or bigger than she was. Of all the big voiced divas there are three of them that stand out above the rest: Dame Shirley Bassey, Whitney Houston, and Donna Summer. All three are blessed and gifted beyond words, but Donna stood out as a person who never let money, fame, or the industry rob her of her faith. If you've never seen her, watch any of the concerts she did towards the latter years before she got sick. She was so mellow, and she was always talking about how The Lord enriched her life. Yes, she will rest in peace until The Lord brings her back to life again. And he will. The Resurrection was the whole point of Jesus' ministry.

When I heard she'd passed away I genuinely got a lump in my throat, that is extremely rare for me. I always felt I had a "Connection" with her as she always seemed to have a hit song for every stage of my life growing up in The UK. When I hear one of her songs I'm instantly transported back to a time & place that I vividly rememer. She was one of the greatest female artists there ever was or is. I miss her so much.

What a voice. What a song. We heard this on and on and on way back in the early eighties, when the Aids crisis began, our gay brothers were dying like flies in the heat, everyone turned their back on us and we had nothing left but our favourites who stood by us with their music to lift us up. Thank you for this - forever.

The lyrics are crazy and beautiful:
Spring was never waiting for us, dear
      It ran one step ahead
As we followed in the dance
MacArthur's Park is melting in the dark
All the sweet, green icing flowing down
Someone left the cake out in the rain
I don't think that I can take it
'Cause it took so long to bake it
And I'll never have that recipe again
      Oh, no
I recall the yellow cotton dress
      Foaming like a wave
On the ground beneath your knees
The birds, like tender babies in your hands
And the old men playing Chinese checkers by the trees
MacArthur's Park is melting in the dark
All the sweet, green icing flowing down
Someone left the cake out in the rain
I don't think that I can take it
'Cause it took so long to bake it
And I'll never have that recipe again
      Oh, no
MacArthur's Park is melting in the dark
All the sweet, green icing flowing down
Someone left my cake out in the rain
And I don't think that I can take it
'Cause it took so long to bake it
And I'll never have that recipe again
      Oh, no, oh
