He had a standing order for either a single rose or a dozen roses to be delivered regularly to her, and after he passed away she continued receiving them. What a sweet guy and couple. Love Dame Judi!
Thank you for the uploads!!! The summer my siblings were 18 and 12 and I was 16, we discovered "Fine Romance" at our local public library. The red cover on the VHS and the fact that it was young Dame Judi Dench jumped out to us immediately. We loved the series and of course LWT id, and to this day fight over who spotted the VHS first. The same summer at the same library, we discovered the 1970's BBC show "The Good Life" with Richard Briars and Felicity Kendal--also on VHS. A magical summer for three kids who grew up in NYC and were fed a steady stream of PBS since toddlerhood.
@@JanRepath If you want to give people the benefit of your knowledge, at least make sure your knowledge is correct. Judy married Michael in 1971, and he died in 2001. That means they were together for 30 years, not 20 years.
Just came across this gem! Love the comedies of this age done by the BBC. Too good, and a wonderful cast too. Thanks for uploading.Greetings from Mussoorie, India
I've just watched the entire series in 2 weeks! it was a wonderful reminisce even down to the beef stroganoff....very funny and typical of the era. Sexually shy bossy woman! Perth Western Australia
I have always enjoyed this series, but, Lora, is terribly abusive to Mike, he is a nice guy, too nice for her, but, alas, this makes this show what it is........
@@chocolatcats Hi Keri, there is just something about this series, I love it too and it is hard to believe how much time has passed since they made that show. I wish they would have got that house and made a few more episodes, thanks keri for your reply and enjoy watching Mike and Laura.....
Emma MacGregor I believe the marriage ended in 2001 - when Williams died. There may be life after death, but on Earth, marriages end when one partner dies.
There are people out there, whom have so many problems, and do not even know what the iddue is, and just move around like that. Leading to mental health issues or diagnosis, relationship problems ms, divorce, etc Personally and for many, pray, fast(no food no drinks for some hours to a few days, or as can take,, and just being yourself generally, doing okay things, eg, giving thanks, giving to others, while pleading with lord, whom you pray to, help you, helps. You can say, Lord you are stronger the situation, please help me overcome it. Bear ir while it is here, help others to be okay. Yahhhhhhh. 😊 Found to be helpful. It was helpful for myself.
Compared to the rest of the comedic gems in the crown of the BBC, "A Fine Romance" falls flat. The show is absolutely jam packed with talent (Dench, writer Bob Larby (who also co-wrote "The Good Life" and "Ever Decreasing Circles") yet somehow doesn't connect. Other than the dentist eposide, most of the other episodes are extremely forgetful. I expected and wanted to enjoy this series so much more than I actually did. It had so much going for it, but somehow it just didn't work. Oh well, Dench made it up a decade later with "As Time Goes By.) Comment : "A Fine Romance" actually aired on LWT (London Weekend Television), not the BBC.
I have to admit to people who comment on my hair that I was going grey in my early 30s. My father's sister was the same, yet my father had his jet black hair into his 50s...go figure.
Is it only me? Or maybe you noticed absolutely zero talent nowadays … in music, entertainment, literature, …. And almost zero birth rates … is there a connection?
The couple's are fun to watch; their characters are fantastically, unique.
I LOVE this show!!! I like anything with Judy Dench. She is awesome!
Nice gem of a show. The wife and I both enjoyed it in reruns.
When they laughed together at the end of this episode, it made me tear up and I don't know why. It was so genuine and sweet.
She was absolutely devoted to him and never remarried.. You know that they were married in real life ❤️
He had a standing order for either a single rose or a dozen roses to be delivered regularly to her, and after he passed away she continued receiving them. What a sweet guy and couple. Love Dame Judi!
It is fun to see a married couple, in real life, also superb actors, playing comic loosers. I am enjoying seeing this nutty comedy again!

Glad you found these soldi shows - just discovered AFR within last yr - what yr was this that they had at NYPL?
What a nice story! It’s nice to have those memories with your family
Love this series, laughing out loud is good. A Fine Romance..."oh forget it, skinny cow...a morning person..."
When I first saw Judi I had to look twice! She is such a national treasure. Sadly Michael Williams was the love of her life.
Why sadly? She was very blessed to have that kind of relationship for 30 years.
Oh wow, Judi sang the theme song too! Woman of many talents.
If you read Dame Judi's credits you will see she starred in the late 60s version of the musical Cabaret...you need to sing and dance for that role.
The LWT ident is one of the greatest things ever.
It's funnier when you realize that's her real husband. He's cute.
They only had 20 years together, until Mike passed away, suddenly. But Judi has her lovely daughter and now a grandson as well.

Indesr Pringles this isn't made by the BBC. it was made by Channel 4.
Jon-Paul Best not channel 4, ITV
Indesr Pringles Totally agree!
London Weekend Television

& quite childish in many ways
thank you for posting
Thanks for these.
Fabulous
Judy is beautiful ☺
Wonderful, thank U, enjoy so much,, Judy alwaz e enjoyable!
I agree. "My only claim to youth is that Jane Fonda is older than I am." Maybe not the exact quote, but one of my favorite lines.
I have always enjoyed this series, but, Lora, is terribly abusive to Mike, he is a nice guy, too nice for her, but, alas, this makes this show what it is........
in real life they married...he is deceased (2001) as is Phil, Richard Warwick (1997) I loved this series.

Their awkwardness in forming a relationship is perfect and wouldn't be so, had they not been married in real life.
I didn’t think of it as abusive, as such, but she was terribly immature.
If that was real alcohol, Judy can sure put them away!
Between here at 8:49 and here at 11:11, Mike has had a wash and blow dry!
Why episode 1 is deleted?
something to do with copyright
Don't make comedy's like this anymore 😔
Judy is superb!
Judi drench and Michael Williams were married
I don't know who Judi drench was married to, but Michael Williams was married to Judi *Dench*.

Judith is a excellent 47 year old.......just saying
Kevin Chappell She certainly was! an extremely professional and versatile actress if ever there was one!
heck ya
Kevin Chappell excellent at any age
I was thinking the same thing! She was so babyfaced at age 47! Beautiful woman.

This nonsense went on for 4 series
look at the size of the phone !!!
I still have one like that and use it everyday.
12:00 I wonder if that is the correct way to pronounce the word ego!
I noticed that too, but Collins English Dictionary lists it as a alternate pronunciation. Surprising.
with one look. ?udi Dench!
For all those youngsters who find this boring watch something else.🙄🧐
The comments are all very bright. You sound bitter.

…….
Two forty-somethings play thirty-? Both in wigs and plastic surgery??
Judy looks quite old with the grey hair, pity.
Judy Dench turned 86 on December 9th

Shallow . . .
It looks quite blonde to me.
