@@BeardedTinkerHi! Does it support playlists, random play etc.? In your video I only saw single file playback, we don't need Jellyfin for that. And does it support esphome speakers? Music Assistant server does not 🙁 I'm looking for a media server that plays music all the time without my additional actions (playlists, selections by genre, artist, randomly and so on) Thanks for your videos.
I used Plex on Synology for a long time, but now Plex has become so online streaming oriented, it actually makes finding your local content harder amongst all the online streaming stuff. Thanks for bringing this video out and showing us all this. Jellyfin looks like a really great alternative and I look forward to trying it
Great integration and great alternative to Plex. At timestamp 13:17 when you add the HA integration other devices show up like the LG WebOS TV. I have two LG WebOS TV around the house I would like to play Jellyfin media on but they didn't show up as part of the Jellyfin HA integration setup. What's missing? Do I need to install an app on the TV? Do I need DLNA enabled or is a DLNA integration required on Home Assistant?
There are even a number of add-ons for Home Assistant that make it an even more integrated part of a Home Assistant installation. And yes, I prefer it to Plex because it's open source.
Great video Andrej! I tested out Navidrome - quite similar as Jellyfin, but decided to keep Jellyfin bacause of Android Auto support. Jellyfin Android app works great in car too:)
Great vid, thanks! Quick question, though: I have like 4 or 5 media_player entities of different devices with Jellyfin (2 tvs, a phone, laptop and desktop); I'd like to set up a card that shows the media player cards of the devices that have something playing, whilst hiding the other ones: if I am watching something on desktop and music on my phone, I want the cards for those two, but hide the ones for the tvs and the laptop.... Any idea how I'd go around to do that? :)
There are two ways I know of, but didn't try for this specific case: - internal Conditional card - www.home-assistant.io/dashboards/conditional/ - or something manual like in this example (again using condition): community.home-assistant.io/t/hide-entire-card-based-on-entity-filter/422695
Thanks for sharing! I guess you were using DS Video after plex and before moving to jellyfin? If so: What made you move to jellyfin? (I'm using DS Video 😊)
It feels like Synology hasn't put that much work into DS Video(station) lately - like they stopped developing it. App for phone could be (much) better etc. It does get the job done, but just feeling it's stuck in time for some time now.
@@BeardedTinker couldn't agree more with that statement, but I feel like that's the case for many of the Synology apps (while Synology is supposed to be the 'premium' NAS vendor for consumers).
Short question: I know Jellyfin can be used to browse a movie and play it on a TV from HA. But can this be an automated command? Where can I find a list of these commands if so? Long question: For example, I am currently using Plex. I have sitcoms hosted on my computer and the Plex app on my bedroom TV. At night time, via Home assistant I, 1. Tell bedroom TV to turn on, 2. Tell Plex app to open on bedroom TV, 3. Tell Plex to play a random episode of my show. Is something like this possible with Jellyfin or can it only be used as a browser of media?'
Didn't mention all supported (official and 3rd party) apps - so here it goes: - Jellyfin Media player - desktop client - JellyCon - Kodi addon - Jellyfin for Android - Android devices - Jellyfin Mobile for iOS - iOS and iPadOS devices - Jellyfin for Android TV - Fire TV and Android TV (Google TV) - Jellyfin for Roku - Roku devices app - Jellyfin for WebOS - LG TV app - Infuse - 3rd party client for iOS, iPadOS, and tvOS devices. - Samsung - check this link here: github.com/jellyfin/jellyfin-tizen Link to all clients is this one: jellyfin.org/downloads/ Also, you can try HA AddOn (Community, not official) on this link: github.com/mdvorak/ha-addon-jellyfin
do you know a way for the stock HA media integration, or any other addon, which allows to browse the music library by artist, genre, etc? I don't like the default view by album...
@@BeardedTinker oh, thanks, just done! Not that fancy, though, no covers, no metadata, no way to go forward or back, from inside HA itself... i'm using a network share where i already have my music
I am running home assistant on an i5, 16gb, 1tbssd nuc. How can I install jellyfin directly from HA, similar to Plex. At the moment it seems the only possibility is to migrate my HA inside a container, if I am to have HA and jellyfin on the same hardware.
Does jellyfin have Roku clients now? I tried it years ago and it didn't have Roku support. My house used to be all roku's. It isn't anymore but I share my server and my friends still use roku
Doesn't look like there is. jellyfin.org/downloads/ Desktop, "Kodi". Android, iOS, Android/Fire TV, Roku, WebOS... BUT There is this here too: github.com/jellyfin/jellyfin-tizen Though looks like you have to build it yourself.
You are lucky one. All of the platforms (Emby & Plex) are very good. But I just didn't like the direction where it's was heading. And looking at it today, where I pay for Disney and HBO - spending already too much on that stuff :D
I tried to get this to work on my Samsung TV with no joy, Currently using Web browser on TV it works. I have disabled plex in favour of Jellyfin. It would be great if the Home Assistant integration included the media summary. I like mix folder option, a feature that is missing plex I think, it makes everything so much tidier. Thanks BT.
Thanks for the video. How can I add another folder when setting up in docker? Can I edit somehow to add 2 folders for media (from 2 different synology volumes)?
Wrote the answer, checked Docker documentation and had to start from scratch :) -v (--volume) command for docker will create internal folder if it doesn't exist. So mapping /volume2 from synology to /media2 should also create /media2 folder inside docker. And that's how you should be able to add it. (you can do it in UI of Synology too probably and should work the same).
@@BeardedTinker I stopped the jellyfin in docker and was able to add 2 media folders. And also had to rematch the addresses later in the setup. But apparently is working now.
Great Video, Yes I moved from Plex to Jellyfin ( Hosted on Truenas scale ) a few months ago, graet piece of software Jellyfin keep up the good work.
Thank you! They really did amazing job with Jellyfin, considering its open source software.

The big thing about jellyfin is that you get hardware acceleration for free unlike Plex or Emby.
That's correct! No need to pay extra (or anything) for the same functionality!

There is not reason for it not to work. It has been updated to latest Jellyfin version and does get bumped often.
