  • Hello, Ma Pals!
    Wax sealing letters is something I'm quite fond of. And something that took a lot of time to figure out. I spent a lot of time on the internet searching to see if one can in fact send wax-sealed letters. A lot of places were filled with false information. So I wanted to make a video with what I'd learned, and show you how to seal a letter with wax. If you've got any questions after watching the video, let me know in a comment down below!!

    My husband and I sent engagement announcements through the mail instead of posting on facebook and we sent them in wax sealed envelopes! :) I love the unique touch it adds and I feel like a princess writing a letter.

    Thank you for the tip on including the extra ounce stamp! Glad I found your video 😊

      You're welcome!! If I didn't say it in the video an extra ounce stamp is about 15 cents.
      If you don't wanna use a normal/forever and an extra ounce, you can use a 2 oz stamp instead! It's about the same cost either way =)

      I always wax seal stamp my Christmas cards. I always go to my local post office and they hand cancel my letters free of charge all the time. I guess it depends because the other post office nearby charges per mail.

      That also works at times! But I also love the look of my seals outside my letter haha.
      Also a note, since publishing this video the cost of postage has gone up =)

    Thanks, this has been good information. I have been putting the wax seal at the bottom of the letters, not on the outside of the envelope. I had one such letter returned with fragments of the seal clinging to it; the USPS marked it as undeliverable.

      I'm sorry that happened! I had a few letters like that before the post office people finally told me how to get my letters through. Quick note that the cost of postage has gone up, and it's easier to now just buy the non-machinable stamps! Hopefully you won't have any more issues with the seals that way!!

      You're welcome! Do note that in the US the cost of postage has gone up for non machinable letters. It's now ¢.30 for hand canceling letters along with the normal cost of postage =)
      I hope your customers enjoy the wax seals!! I always love a personal touch on a letter.

    Hi Xanna, thank you for your guide, and a beautiful job done! If you have any experience with traditional (not flexible) sealing wax, do you suggest strategies of laying down/embossing the wax such that it is less inclined to crack during postage? Thank you!

    • @XannasBooks
      @XannasBooks  18 дней назад

      My suggestions would be to use a bit more wax than you normally do and not press the stamp as hard. Otherwise, thinking about the weather around the time of sending. I don't send wax letters when it's really hot out, cause I know they're likely to remelt in transit, and sometimes in the super cold they can crack as well! So temperature is an important consideration too =)

    Hm. I just sent a letter to a new penpal in the US, but I did as we do in Norway and wrote my return to address tiny on the back and crossed it out. Could I risk that the machine reads it and decides that this is the recipient address?
    PS. I suspect the machine will favor the postage stamp side.
    Sadly hand canceling is entirely gone in Norway except for an office that caters exclusively to filatelist first day letters. I will have to just mail a few to myself to try.

    • @XannasBooks
      @XannasBooks  2 года назад +2

      That should be alright! Lots of people will write return addresses on the back of an envelope for things like wedding invitations or if the envelope is small. It's just the basic format is return address goes on the upper left corner of it in the US. Your letter should be good as it would probs prefer the postage side, and the US address =) ✉️

    Great information! As I am about to mail letters using wax seals, and twine! I'm glad I found you as I had no idea what hand canceling was. What is your success rate of "intact" delivery following the guidelines you have laid out? (But I guess you wouldn't know unless you track that asking your recepients.) Would you suggest mailing a few letters to myself to see if the "extra care" you pay for in extra postage and hand caceling request? 🙂And are those extra once stamps in your video "automatic" hand canceling so that I don't have to request it by going inside the post office when I am ready to mail?
    Thanks in advance for response!

    • @XannasBooks
      @XannasBooks  4 месяца назад +1

      Hey! Sorry for responding late. The USPS actually makes hand canceled stamps now that you can buy that automatically mean that they don't go into the machine. I'm not entirely sure about twine as I've never used it myself, but I assume it would go kinda like a package? I would double-check with your local USPS to be sure.

      Thanks for your response! And Yes! They are the “Non Machinable” stamps and I bought 7 of them at the post office @ $1.14 each. Now I will test it out by mailing a wax sealed letter to myself to see how it arrives! (Fingers crossed.)🕯️✒️📝

    As far as putting the wax seal on the inside of your envelope with your invitation would you have to do the same thing?

    • @XannasBooks
      @XannasBooks  2 года назад +1

      You might? Best thing to do would be to use normal postage cost on the outside and take it to the post office to double check if it's too thick for the machine or weighs over an ounce =)

    Does it take longer to deliver these? I live in Arkansas and sent a wax sealed letter to my mom in Texas last Tuesday…it’s now Wednesday and she still hasn’t received it. To be fair, it’s been snowing and raining…so not sure if that’s caused delays. But just in general l, do these letters take longer?

    • @XannasBooks
      @XannasBooks  7 месяцев назад +1

      In my experience they can sometimes take a day or so longer, but large delays, longer than usual, are likely issues with rain and snow.

      I haven't tried electric warmers before! I've thought about it though 👀
      Update that the cost of postage has gone up so to send a wax sealed letter it's best to buy a "non-machinable stamp" at the moment that design is the purple butterfly stamp 🥰

  • @iamsamanthatrainer

    • @XannasBooks
      @XannasBooks  Год назад +1

      Hi! So with the raised cost of postage I recommend getting a non machinable stamp! They're purple butterflies (at least where I am). That would be the only stamp you'd need to use when mailing a wax sealed letter =)

  • @MrSneakmind
    @MrSneakmind Год назад +1

    Hi hi so the extra oz stamp makes it not go through the machine? I’d also get the nonmachinable stamp but kinda want to send it with a specific forever stamp on my letter

    • @XannasBooks
      @XannasBooks  Год назад +2

      Since the time of filming this video the cost of postage has gone up, so you could use 2 extra ounce stamps (I think) or the non-machinable purple butterfly stamp.
      If you're wanting to use a specific forever stamp you may be able to use it and a few extra other stamps (2 extra oz, or possibly another forever) but that depends on the cost of postage and how thick your envelope is =)
      If you take your envelope to your post office the post master there should be able to give you the exact combo you need for whatever stamps you're wanting to use 🥰

    • @XannasBooks
      @XannasBooks  2 года назад +1

      I've heard that some offices let it slide just fine, it may depend on how thick the seal is? Usually it's just because a wax sealed letter can't go through a sorting machine. Hopefully all stays well. What kinda wax stamps do you use? =) I mainly have floral ones.
