Ok. I don't write letters. I don't have wax stamps or any of the things for this video. *Why the hell am I here?* I have always thought they're really cool though! EDIT: wowie i do not remember this comment at all. Nice to jump randomly back into it.
Klaire Moon, I am the same way! This video is nice and all, but I did not like how she used so little wax and made very off set seals! I always get my seals directly in the middle!
Godschildyes Brown well, most stamp compilation and otherwise videos use too much wax. If I remember correctly, there’s a ratio that’s like 2/3 wax to stamp. So the wax should be the size of 2/3 of the stamp before you press to reduce wasted wax. I’d have to look it up, but I think she’s using the right amount (for the most part)
Quite literally exactly what I'm going through now. I thought maybe there would be some insight as to how to make sure it turns out perfectly but no. This is going to drive me crazy.
Yourmom you don't need to be famous for a big wedding, if you have a really large family and so does your partner then that's going to be a big wedding. All you need is family members bringing their partners and friends -boom- big wedding
the irregular edges of the wax stamp makes me feel nervous. Definitely I am a perfectionist of this era. I feel the need to cut out any imperfection the halts the wax from being completely circular.
Same!! It is not a perfect circle and I was about to die on the grey one where there was like an inch of extra wax 😂😂😂but I mean it still kind of looked cool
These look so pretty. Love the tree and the snowflake. If you lit 2 of the candle waxes and let them drip together you would get a swirled stamp. Possibilities are endless!!! Thanks for sharing a long gone way to seal envelopes.
My word, you took me back 50 years! I remember using those purple thrupenny (3d) stamps! We used sealing wax to cover the knot on parcels back in the day when we tied them up with string for the post so there could be no tampering. We didn't have fancy seals although I later inherited some nice antique ones, so we used coins which used to be much more deeply indented than those minted now. They do go through the post and can't fall off. To be truly authentic looking they need to be slightly off-centre otherwise they'll just look like factory made stickers. Shayda, thank you! :) Oh, and to stop the seal sticking to the wax we used to moisten it first ... ok I admit it, we used to lick it!!
Plus she needs to let it pour itself, it will naturally become a circle, but she’s messing up the whole circle by trying to make one😭 but it is what it is I guess🤷🏽♀️
As a 35 year old man planning his daughters sweet 16 I really appreciate your effective delivery and focusing on the tutorial without rambling off topic.
I feel like I'd have so much fun doing these on wedding invitations. I would most likely insist on doing them myself, with real wax and real candles. I'd lock myself in a room (where those wedding planners can't get to me heehee) and just sit there spending forever melting wax and doing stamps like that. Lol, thinking about how to escape the pressures of wedding planning and I'm only 16!!!
yo jessica 21 you can drink now hows the sealing stamp business xD im 16 rn myself and despite saying i hate how women organise all the parties im here like "hm i wanna make these stamps too" HAHA 😆
Shayda, I'd like to thank you for such a very well done tutorial. No extra music, no silliness, just straight forward instructions. I come from the era when if you wanted to communicate with someone, you called them on a landline or you wrote letters. In 4th grade, our German teacher, who actually WAS German, instituted a Pen Pal program for us children, to write to kids from her home town in Germany, and other relatives of her's from Poland, Czechoslovakia and Holland. I ended up with 14 pen pals from 4th grade all the way until 12th grade when I went away to University! Along the way, I also picked up some pen pals from Japan and Australia. I mention this because I made all my own stationary and had to use sealing wax on each letter...because I loved Jane Austin and slower times in history. But, it's been decades since I used sealing wax and I checked out your video as a reminder. I've begun handwriting letters to friends, because NO ONE saves a printed out email, unless you need it for a court case! LOL It makes me sad, reading some of the comments, where so many people demand perfection of the sealing was process! If they took the time to hand write a letter, they'd know that words are crossed out, ink skips or blots and sometimes you even put the stamp on the envelope, UPSIDE DOWN! :) Once again, thank you for such a nice and reassuring video!
We did this for our wedding invitations that we had made in Spain and it really gave our invitations something "extra" special. My family, being Spanish, is incredibly traditional and so even my pickiest Tia's (aunties) loved the wax seal. If you're on the fence about adding it to your wedding invites, just go for it! To this day we still use the same wax stamp we used on our invites as my husband loves the way it makes our Holiday cards stand out from everyone else in our family. Plus, I was told by my best friend that it makes her feel really special whenever she gets a letter from us in the mail since she knows we took the extra time to do that for her. :o) It may be an old practice, but it's a beautiful one.
if you don’t have wax for the seals, you can use a piece of a crayon and some hot glue melted together in a spoon. make sure it’s completely melted and not to watery. if you have no stamps, I use the bottom of an essential oil bottle, or any flat surface that won’t melt. hope this helps!
Guys I got a stamp today (and a gold candle with it) for Christmas with the letter F on it written so beautifully and beautiful markings around the F, my dad got me it 😁 I love it. Merry Christmas everyone and I hope you had a lovely day xx 🌲
I know this video is from three years ago, but I just wanted to thank you. I've been wanting to write my professor a letter, and he is a little old-timey so I thought it would be nice if I used wax seals and calligraphy! This video helped TONS!! I can't thank you enough. ☺️
About 30yrs ago I found 1and a half inch long red wax stick in my grandma's attic...I'm still holding onto it. It's not at all like a red candle....it's much more brittle (so if the wrong person messed around with the letter it showed) and very, very saturated....almost like blood. I love having that small, invaluable, but personal piece of history....who know's where/how it got there before I found it at 8yrs old...thanks Shayda, you inspire me to incorporate this into my life! I luv 'snailmail' anyway. Bye!
Does the wax stay on when you mail it? Wondering if you send it like that or place the envelope in another envelope so the wax doesn't get knocked off. Sorry if that is a dumb question!
Destroying the wax when opening the envelope is the point. When opening the mail, you'll know if it got opened already since the wax would be broken. Know this was mostly used long ago between royalties. Kingdoms had their own emblem too.
I have been given a wax seal stamp set for Christmas and I was not sure how to use it. Your video is clear and informative. I really appreciate it, thank you. Merry Christmas xx
Omg this was so helpful! My boyfriend came back from europe and brought me a calligraphy set with a wax stick and seal and I had no idea what to do. Thank you so much!
i dont know why im here cuz im not even into calligraphy but like im so happy watching this? like. you go, man. keep doing them wax seals. calligraphy and all the stuff you can do to make it look classy is cool as hell
I recently bought a wax seal set last month, I’ve been wanting to play with wax seals for a while but never had the chance to. The seal set came with multicolored wax pellets so I look forward to playing around with that; especially for friends’ birthdays or greeting cards ❤️
why do you need to pour the wax in circular motions? if you keep it in one place wouldn't the circle be more perfect than applying in circular motions? honestly I have no idea how these works. perhaps keeping the wax in one place won't allow it to flow
not really... I've been stamping for awhile and if you melt it right, spreading doesn't matter. She also used a lot of excessive wax that caused weird blobs at the edges.
with the little Ladell thing to melt the wax in. just wrap it in foil before putting the wax in and melting it. saves you cleaning. just pull the foil off and wallah
I can't believe I just found this channel! I've been making cards using calligraphy, and I just ordered a stamp. Now I see she's a calligraphy teacher as well. Made my day.
I love these stamps I used them for my sisters wedding invitation as I know I'm never going to use snail mail and since I had loads of wax left I also now use them for other friends and family wedding invitation
Great timing with this one Shayda, I just did my first wax seal on a family card last week & messed it up ( didn't let the wax cool before removing the stamp) this video is soooo helpful. Thanks for sharing, I'm off to have another go at it. 😊
Thank you so much for this Shayda, you have such a lovely style and warm personality. Thank you for the thorough and helpful instructions - I have just bought my beautiful paper, envelopes, seal, wax and wax bowl. Ready to go! Thank you so much and wishing you well. Julie X

I want to do this when I get married. I have always loved old style stuff. I am getting rose and snow flake stamps at the end of this week :). I can’t wait to have a play with them
I bought a set of stamps and waxes to seal thank you cards for my baby shower. Got a fantastic set of beautiful watercolor thank you cards for 8.95 on amazon. Should come in the mail tomorrow I'm very excited.
Thank you for this! I've been wanting to do this for years, and I finally got some sealing wax and a rose sealer. I need a spider one (because I keep spooders as pets ha), but I'm excited to give my Christmas cards a little something more this year.
Hello, I am a girl from Korea. I've been interested in sealing wax from time to time, watching RUclips, watching your footage, and now using a translator to comment in English. I am now subscribed to your channel ^^ Your face is really beautiful, I'll take care of it in the future!
This was such a wonderful video I'm still pretty young (early teen) and I'm surprised how much I loved it but sadly I don't have a Facebook 😥 this is really something I would like to get into!
geezus! You don't need FB. Stay away from it. It is an evil thing that steals your life, trying to keep up with all the bubbly, phony happy people showing off their sandwiches, trips and endless self-promoting photos of themselves and their marvelously hip friends. Seriously, I tried it for a year or so and found it like a hamster wheel that once on, can never stop, for fear of missing something or being left out. I got off, after learning how selfishly our lives are data-mined for commercial & advertising sales purposes. Plus, I don't need a thousand so-called "friends' to know I am liked and loved.
Another hint is before you press your seal into the wax is to lightly lick it or exhale on it to give it a slight barrier between the metal. That way the wax won't grab hold of the stamp and will release easier.
I saw a Primary School teacher use this method of sealing an envelope in 1967. He was sending off completed examination papers to the local Educational Board. Other than that I've never seen anyone else use sealing wax and stamp but it certainly adds something to a correspondence.
wow - I bought my first set of wax seals in 1969 when I went to college. I did use them for several years (maybe 5 or better) until the post office complained the cards and letters I sent had to be hand processed as the seals didn't go thru the machines. I still have my seals, and even some wax.. I might dig it back out and see what happens. Thanks for the video !
been using wax sticks for years. I drip a pool slightly smaller than the seal; then, plant my sealer smack on top. It naturally depresses the blob out to just about the exact size of the metal seal. That way, i don't have lots of wastage and that irritating wave of overflow off to one side. Some really GOOD companies make their waxes with a tree resin which gives a lovely warm pine (tree) aroma when melting.
Very nice video! As a word of advice, do not tip the wicked wax so far that the flame overtakes the candle. This can leave black soot in the melted wax. This doesn't really matter for dark waxes, but may ruin some light ones! Also, it's a good idea to use the end of the wax stick to swirl the wax around as it's melting and to avoid dripping. This keeps the wax from cooling too much before you have enough wax to put your stamp on.

I don't have wax stamps or any of the things for this video.

I have always thought they're really cool though!
EDIT: wowie i do not remember this comment at all. Nice to jump randomly back into it.
sameeee
Marzipan The Unicorn Same xD
Because you're interested. Wasn't so hard now, was it?
Marzipan The Unicorn Preach🖒🖒
I absolutely love marzipan. I could actually smell it when I read your username. just goes to show how powerful the imagination can be.
I would b damn pissed if i don't hit the middle and make it freaking perfect
oh god same
Klaire Moon, I am the same way! This video is nice and all, but I did not like how she used so little wax and made very off set seals! I always get my seals directly in the middle!

I'm pissed she didn't use the spoon.
would be cool for a Wedding Invitation
Kathryn Pilant they did those for our prom invitations! They also did it in our class color.
Yo thats awesome, really cool touch that makes it super pretty
Kathryn Pilant but then you have to send out more than 30-50 envelope, sometimes more than 100
My brothers wedding had about 30 people, but far from 100. I dont even know 15 different people :P
Yourmom you don't need to be famous for a big wedding, if you have a really large family and so does your partner then that's going to be a big wedding. All you need is family members bringing their partners and friends -boom- big wedding
The marble effects you could do with two or three different colours in the little bowl would be so pretty ♡
Seren Nyte Oh I love that idea! if you try it, please post a pic on my FB page ☺
Seren Nyte Oh! I thought so too because the pink and green candle on your video will look nice together. 😄 It'll be pretty.
the irregular edges of the wax stamp makes me feel nervous. Definitely I am a perfectionist of this era. I feel the need to cut out any imperfection the halts the wax from being completely circular.
INProcess.. ofc you're the perfectionist of this era. You're unique, no one is like you
I am just like you
Same!! It is not a perfect circle and I was about to die on the grey one where there was like an inch of extra wax 😂😂😂but I mean it still kind of looked cool
Wow! You're Special.
Ya I would have to cut it 😂
These look so pretty. Love the tree and the snowflake. If you lit 2 of the candle waxes and let them drip together you would get a swirled stamp. Possibilities are endless!!! Thanks for sharing a long gone way to seal envelopes.

It triggers me how she always squeezes the wax to one side with the stamp instead of carefully making it even.
Gurosama Bltch I’ve been doing this for a while and it is challenging to nail perfectly
You should let the stamp go down by its own weight. stop pressing hard. And it bothers me too how lazy she is.
Plus she needs to let it pour itself, it will naturally become a circle, but she’s messing up the whole circle by trying to make one😭 but it is what it is I guess🤷🏽♀️
No one cares
@@chrisholmes8250 the comments above you tell a different story.

Cheyenne Garvey that's a good question! once the wax seal is on the envelop it is really on there! so you should have no trouble with mailing.
Shayda Campbell what about opening it though?!
Destroying the wax when opening the envelope is the point. When opening the mail, you'll know if it got opened already since the wax would be broken. Know this was mostly used long ago between royalties. Kingdoms had their own emblem too.
that would melt in my country XD
Why ya'll everywhere? Lol
I was absolutely mesmerized by this... I just bought a kit from the website you linked and I can't wait to get it and start using my first seal!!!

Chan Khayi the wax is quite thick so it's easier to spread before stamping than to stamp a huge blob
Yourmom no, I have one of these, spreading before stamping guarantees an even layer
Chan Khayi she is just not very good at it tbh, always misses the top, wax not poured in the centre and wastes too much wax
not really...
Does this always work or does it interfere with an even pour?
Thanks for this tutorial! A friend sent me a set of wax candle sticks and stamp of my own monogram. Can’t wait to give it a try!! 👏🏾
I can't believe I just found this channel! I've been making cards using calligraphy, and I just ordered a stamp. Now I see she's a calligraphy teacher as well. Made my day.
Welcome to the channel!
Iv just bought a wax stamp set for our save the date invites for our wedding. Thought would be a lovely touch! Thank you for showing us.
How did I just find you today? Searched for tree drawing, found this channel, now I binge-watch it. LOVE from America!
I am just getting into wax seal and I am absolutely captivated ! Thanks for sharing
I’m graduating high school and using wax seals for all my graduations announcements. Very personalised and I’m so excited! :)
I love the wax stamps ! they make the letter look fancy and special.
I've always loved the idea of wax seals and I see kits all the time. Thank you for sharing
Beautiful. I struggle to craft any more with a little person but you have really inspired me to dig out my waxes again.
Thank you so much for this Shayda, you have such a lovely style and warm personality. Thank you for the thorough and helpful instructions - I have just bought my beautiful paper, envelopes, seal, wax and wax bowl. Ready to go! Thank you so much and wishing you well. Julie X

It's called a candle snuffer
My wax seal kit just came in today! I’m so excited to seal my pen pal letters with the purple wax! My favorite color!!!!
I need a spider one (because I keep spooders as pets ha), but I'm excited to give my Christmas cards a little something more this year.
i’ve been handling my wick sticks wrong the entire time! my wax was getting charred and turning black but this vid helped me have it turn out perfect!
Just ordered some wax melts and a fleur de lis stamp! So excited to get in touch with people and be fancy
I just bought my first vintage stiff EVER I'm so excited because it's so beautiful and I would like to use this on my projects for easthetics.
Ha! Wabisabi...is that a word? I LOVED this video. I love that you're more into the beauty than efficiency.
Hello, I am a girl from Korea. I've been interested in sealing wax from time to time, watching RUclips, watching your footage, and now using a translator to comment in English. I am now subscribed to your channel ^^ Your face is really beautiful, I'll take care of it in the future!
Wax stamps can be a great touch for Christmas cards ❄️🎄
I just got a wax seal set for my birthday. This was very helpful. Thank you
This was such a wonderful video I'm still pretty young (early teen) and I'm surprised how much I loved it but sadly I don't have a Facebook 😥 this is really something I would like to get into!
Ellie camp YOU DONT HAVE FACEBOOK?! WHY?!

I have everything, but after seeing your video ,I going to get that spoon ,and tea light candle, great video, signed still learning Ron
This is super cool! I’ve been sending mail to friends! I have a group of pen pals hehe. I’m excited to try it now
this is the first video I've watched of your channel. I really like your personality and I can't wait to watch some more of your videos! :)
Audio! Goddess Mother, you just about blew my eardrums out!
Stuff like this can not be lost to time.

that is such a neat idea! i have to give this a try with candle wax!
Just got my kit in the mail today, this video was perfect 👌🏾
This was SO helpful thank you!! I didn’t have either tools but I took an spoon on hard for this and it worked wonders! 😍
I do this every year for Santa's letters to the kids and grand kids.
Yes...even my 27 & 30 yr old daughters still get theirs
Game of Thrones increased my interest in wax sealing !!!! Good Video Shayda Campbell! :)
I did those for my fiancee when he went to boot camp they made my letters more special❤
I LOVE how you say "so let's get started" 😁
I love watching pouring wax seal ❤️
so satisfying to watch
I want wax sealing stuff so bad. I'm in love with handwriting letters
I love the way people all knew how to do this and they did it on a daylong basis and now there is a tutorial
I saw a Primary School teacher use this method of sealing an envelope in 1967. He was sending off completed examination papers to the local Educational Board. Other than that I've never seen anyone else use sealing wax and stamp but it certainly adds something to a correspondence.

I totally enjoyed this! I haven't done this in so long but I think I will revisit!
wow - I bought my first set of wax seals in 1969 when I went to college. I did use them for several years (maybe 5 or better) until the post office complained the cards and letters I sent had to be hand processed as the seals didn't go thru the machines. I still have my seals, and even some wax.. I might dig it back out and see what happens. Thanks for the video !
Those are gorgeous! I've wanted to try this for a while and you've inspired me to go for it! Thank you for showing us how it's done.
I love the fleur de lis and bumble bee! How do you know how much to melt?
Dani Practice will show you how much you need
been using wax sticks for years.
I actually got this stuff 2 days ago and now noticed this was in my recommendations
Silver one is beautiful. Beautiful video and really calming😁
I just ordered mine it's on the way this video helped a lot
she wastes so much wax, it was killing me lmao
Thank you so much. I'm about to get my very first Wax Stamp to seal my Will. Great and informative video! Thanks again!
I actually have this but did not know how to use it. Thanks!
I love the pink one.. I would definitely buy this!!
I have an ye old times calligraphy kit. I know how to use everything but the wax seal. Yay. Thanks. 👌🏻
Thanks so much for the help! I have had a kit for a while to make DND props but had no idea how to use it! 😅
Thinking of doing this for letters to my grand daughter. Hand written letter for every birthday and holidays. To be given to her on 18th birthday.
Good idea. It's beautiful !
Wow, tysm for this! I just need envelopes, ink and that's all to finish my set and I'll be able to make these
