Personally I never done this myself or any type of readings from any other different culture but it's interesting. Thanks for sharing this with us 👊🏻

I saw this done like this in HBO's His Dark Materials series. One of the characters was doing this and I never seen that before. Thanks for the tutorial!

This is excellent! Can you make one even if it is short, using coins?

There are already so many on coins. But I might

@@AntonyCummins Yes it's correct. There are plenty of coin usage videos, BUT no one explains this kind of thing as well as you and Jay. Nobody else has the academic way you do it. I think it would be beneficial for everyone.

I used a 3 coin method for years .. six tosses of 3 coins .. one combination creates a solid line _( say 3 heads )_ , second _( 3 tails )_ creates a broken one, third _( 2 heads )_ creates a moving _( transforming )_ solid, fourth _( 2 tails )_ creates a moving broken. I believe it came from a small paperback Legge translation of the I Ching. so you would get primary hexagram reading + second judgement
a second method is placing 8 shuffled coins on a diagram of the trigrams. a marked coin indicates the lower trigram the first time, the upper trigram on a second round. one hexagram as a result. you could then take away two unmarked coins, lay the remaining coins against each line -- the marked coin now indicates the transforming line and second hexagram.
I currently use a 6 coin method. 6 identical coins, one marked on both sides. shuffle them in your hand. lay them down from bottom to top. one side indicates a solid line, other side becomes a broken line, the marked coin notates the transforming line. you get one primary hexagram _(judgement, line readings)_ + second judgement + sole line reading from transformed line in second hexagram

Thanks for this thorough explanation. What i am unsure about is how you determined that your transforming line was 6th one in the hexagram?

You do the calculations each time that you count the final sticks. 4 or 5 sticks are given value of 3 and 8 or 9 sticks a value of 2. Doing this three times gives you 3 numbers. Add these three numbers to give the value corresponding to the type of "Line". On his last count-up, the final total gave a value of 6. A "6" is a broken/moving line (yin changing to yang) changing to a solid line (yang).
