Wow, thanks for that. I guess a warning to improve is a good message, lest you suffer problems. And as scientific as Tarot cards, but maybe there are instances where they can be useful. The iChing seems to be a wonderful way to be introspective about your life, where you’v been, and where it may lead you. It’s a bit complicated though!

I can see how this developed into Fan-Tan, I guess 'man' corrupted this sacred ritual into a gambling game.
Anybody know if the 'shaking the sticks' method is authentic/acceptable?

He said the three power. Heaven, Earth and “Man” I believe this to be very wrong for it is Heaven, Earth and the Supreme Being which is to represent thst in which is beyond Yin and Yang and beyond duality. Man is weak and vulnerable to imperfection and ignorance. He remains within duality as long as he exists within Ego. Such is the practice and teachings of the I Ching. I am not surprised that in University they would teach that it is “Man”

By man he means human being. Human being is the divine being given chance an opportunity. Man has power in choice.

The trinity of heaven earth and man is a VERY old concept of Daoism/Chinese Philosophy.
Truely when sages of the old - and lecturers who are a bit more recent - talk of the I Ching (again, chinese philosophy) they indeed mean this trinity of heaven earth and man.
Actually this concept of heaven earth man predates Yin Yang philosophy, so in short: "man" is correct in this context. (Although I'm sure you can argue about what man means depending on context ;-) )

I like to think of Man as the bridge between Heaven and Earth, between the material and the intangible. It certainly fits as the third.

The interpretation Prof Ho is describing comes from three kingdoms era scholar Wang Bi/Fusi. Very much a standard interpretation for generations.

@@touchmycamerathroughthefence it's not fortune-telling, it's more related to something present but difficult to see... it's more similar to an active meditation, especially with yarrow... it's how to explain a dream while you're "creating" it... sorry if it's not clear, English isn't my first language.

'When all scientific questions have been answered the problems of life have hardly been touched on at all' - Wittgenstein - science itself has little claim to the truth so is not in a position to use the term pseudo-science in making judgements.
