Glenn had his lifelong friends with him to record this very emotional song.
Drummer Hal Blaine is gone now..
Bassist, Joe Osborn (my father) passed
3 months before Hal. This Grammy winning song represents the last time these men saw each other after some 60 years of friendship. -David Osborn-

Knowing that my father was soon to die didn't soften the impact on me when he died.
I often helped pro caregivers to get dad on his side so his in order to clean his backside and get a new diaper on him.
Our faces were about a foot apart at these times.
On one of those moments he said "I don't want anyone feeling sad about this" meaning his death.
I'm sure your father feels the same way about you.
Those few words helped me out of the fog of grief I was in. I hope they help you too.

The heartbreaking message of “I’m Not Gonna Miss You” is that as Alzheimer’s progresses you lose your memory until you don’t remember anyone anymore, including your own family. Glen was well into his decline from the disease when he recorded the song, having written it when he was diagnosed (he is shown getting his brain scans in the video). It’s the family who suffers the most as they watch the person they’ve loved no longer remembers who they are. My father was a musician and died of the disease five years ago so the song really hits home for me.

Glen Campbell (like the soup) sings this song after he was diagnosed with Alzheimer's. The blond woman is his wife. This song tears me apart every time. :( He was such an amazing instrument (guitar especially) player, that even after he forgot the words to any of his songs or who his family was, he played guitar to the end of his life. Doctors said that it was like breathing for him, it came so naturally to him. OMG, this breaks my heart everytime I hear it. Got the tissues out and I would suggest you get some. Heartbreaking ....it's from the point of view of a person that has Altzheimers and once it affects a person, eventually they will not recognize anyone. So hearbreaking. When he did his farewell tour, people couldn't understand how he could still play all his instruments flawlessly. Expert Doctors said that since Glen had played the guitar for so long and so amazingly, it was like breathing for him which is why he could do it without thinking. On his farewell tour, his daughter who was playing the guitar/banjo kept him line and it wasn't secretive their talking in front of the audience as she'd say 'Dad, we already played that song' which kept him on track and his son was the drum player. Gets me everytime.

Music it seems may be one of the last memories to survive this horrible disease. My mom can still sing the old hymns with me without a song book. I even have 38 minute video of her singing with me as I was picking out the songs I would lead for Sunday morning church. It is precious and surreal at the same time as she sang from memory songs like ...when the roll is called up yonder ... oh they tell me of a home...when the saints go marching in.. leaning on the everlasting arms. At 91 years old, “With Her Far Away Eyes” 😢 we sang🎚🎶. My mom lived with us for 7 years until this past December. I found a perfect home🙏🏼where she now lives. It was hard to do but for the last two years I had a 12 hour shift work job, a sick wife, and mom in last stages of Dementia. It was really a lot to handle for my son19 and me. Fast fwd ..mom is ok...spent Dec-4/28/19 close to my wife Linda before she was called home to Heaven.. my son is just 3 weeks into striking out on his own and doing good... and me? .. I’m living on the grace of God, love of Jesus, encouragement of the church, and lots of music while I wait on my new purpose an identity. It is so hard but it has been so worth it. ...God is good.
Sorry 🙃we were talking about Glen Campbell.. yes Ty this video is a priceless gift to his family , fans , and even care givers and loved searching for understand. Glen gave a lifetime and then gave more.
To his family we owe our thanks for his time and our pleasure🙏🏼!
    Lastly ...Ty ... thx4Ub/nU ....

Amazing that today I decided to watch reaction videos and yours was about keeping the memories of your families alive like Glen Campbell did in his song.
The reason why I say that is I finally received my old family films back from Kodak redigitized from when I and my brothers were young.
Though it’s just me and my older brother left I can’t wait to sit down with him and revisit our family and all our times shared together again.
People don’t wait to have this done cause time is to short and
That old film in the closet can’t last forever.

The first time I heard this I broke down in tears. This song really touched home because both of my parents at the time were in a care facility for people with Alzheimer’s. It really broke our hearts to put them out of their home but it needed to be done in order for them to be safe. My mother was upset at my dad because he wouldn’t take her shopping so she left the house walking in the dead heat of summer in Florida and they found her passed out at the end of the road. So a quick decision needed to be made and none of us regret it.
Even watching this just now I broke down in tears and probably will every time I hear this song. I’m thankful that you got to hear it because it is very very special. Thank you for all your videos...

I lost my Dad in’15, to Alzheimer’s/Dementia, but in Reality he was slipping in and out of “Reality” the last 2-3 years he was with me. He also had Prostate Cancer, which took his Health down that much more, but the Alzheimer’s was the worst because he was like I say, “In and Out” of Reality, so it hurt to have him at times not know who you are, or not remember a lot of things from our lives. “Memories” are the MOST IMPORTANT things we can make in life because they’re the only thing that can NEVER be taken from us...😢😢

My brothers and I took care of my Mama with Dementia at home until she passed away in 2015 and went home to be with Jesus. We didn't want her to go to a nursing home. It was hard, but she was worth the effort. I miss her every single day. But I know I will see her again one day. It is hard when they don't remember you sometimes. It is like losing them twice. We held her hands and as she passed from death to Life and there was peace on her face. She was free. Beautiful song that he sang for his wife while he could still sing before his mind was totally gone.

After decades of making great music, this is the most profound song Glen ever did. And the line, "I'm still here but yet I'm gone", explains alzheimers and dementia in a few short words. For people who've been through it, you watch a person you have known, often all your life, disappear right before your eyes.
