They wrote this album when they were +-18 years old. In an interview in 2009 or something, Oli and one of the guitarists said that they wrote this kind of music that would have been nice for moshpits/wall of deaths, not for anything else really :)

That's some cool insight into their writing process. That also lines up with my comments about their musical maturity -- with this album being designed for an event (concerts) rather than strictly to be heard as art.

As soon as he mentioned a lack of connection, the opening riff was played again.

I'd love to hear the reissue of this album. It is full of hit songs, they just need to rewrite them with modern equipment and instruments. As for the vocals, of course I'm not sure, but it would be very interesting to listen

Whether someone likes their music or not, it’s clear from even their early stuff that the talent and creativity was there, they just needed to learn to utilize it. I’d recommend checking out something from their album Sempiternal, probably Sleepwalking

I totally agree, but then again I would conclude that most every band or artist or musician has talent and creativity to start with. I could definitely do an analysis of Sleepwalking but as I said in the Ludens reaction, Sempiternal was my introduction to BmtH and I've listened to that whole album before. I don't know how receptive everyone would be to non-first time listen analysis but I guess I could test the waters.

I absolutely love the count your blessings album, bring mes style back then was so good, or was for me for the kind of music I enjoy, iv enjoyed desthcore and metal since this album, it’s a shame oli strained his vocal chords around suicide season ish times (the 2nd album) which basically made them have to change their style a lot, I respect that they had to change for that reason but at the same time they lost me with the more recent couple albums, the latest 2 singles ludens and parasite eve were good.

When it comes to that jumping from section to section and it sounding like loads different things slammed together thing you mention I think that was just the style deathcore/metalcore was in at the time, before this time it was more breakdown/chug heavy, then this style happened, then we moved into a more melodic death metal era with bands like as blood runs black. It’s less random left over riffs just slammed together and more just the style of the genre at the time, a lot of bands did the same thing, it’s just jumping from riff section to breakdown sections then back again, sounds messy but when you’re used to listening to it (and you like it) it sound right, and not every song is like that some of them do flow a lot better with how the guitar work goes together from section to section . With the medusa part I don’t know, sounds like he’s talking about an ex and the whole medusa thing is just like a metaphor for how awful she was, atleast that’s the vibe I get from it lol, and it’s what most desthcore and metalcore can be about 😂.

Great example of mid 10’s ‘metalcore’ bands experimenting with drop B. Literally no metal band plays in B now, it’s either drop A or drop C
